  • In this video AJ walks you through the build we've come up with for our Traxxas Sledge. He goes over the build and gives the reasons behind our decisions to make these changes to the RC. Come along and see how we've modded this truck to make it stronger and more controllable while keeping the stock power unit and gearing.
Addendum; We forgot to mention the axel replacements we made due to a failing in the unit during our bashing. The link is below for those.

Like your approach! I like the Sledge and for me it has required far less modification than the Kraton 6. Love the rear wing hack! I carry mine by holding it palm under the rear diff/chassis with my fingers through/around the rear swing arms. I trimmed and drywall taped/shoegu'd the front fender area on the bodyshell. My main hassle with the car is rocks getting in at the rear suspension arm gap in the body shell, then working their way to jam under the drive shaft, cutting the boots and grinding the metal. Worst car I've had for it.

My sledge is still going strong no major issues that weren't user error... Thanks for the update, great channel one of my favorites. Oh and I pick up my sledge under the wing there is some nubs sticking out from the plastic wing mount that fit a finger or two each, it is not easy to carry long distances this way but it's what I got used to. I think this may be one of the intended purposes of these small extra bits under the wing but I'm not sure.

I also used piston rings for the wing on my kraton 6s. And it works great!!!

I got so turned off by Traxxas hassling Arrma and then the Helion drama as well as them putting out so many bad RC’s for years but then the Maxx dropped and I got slightly curious until i found out how bad the Maxx handled until you widened it and really worked on tuning the shocks to get it to handle just okay. The Sledge has been the first rig they have though since 2011 that has made me interested.

Great video once again !! So don't you think that it needs quite too many upgrades in order to avoid problems and make it run smoothly, out of the box? I think that the changes that you've made are not only for the sake of doing upgrades ( ok with the exemption of the socks for the shock absorbers :) ) but they were needed. Not to mention the poor electronics of TRAXXAS .

Great videos! Hey, can I use the same brand servo but the 45kg version? Would that give faster results comparable to the Traxxas 600 servo?

It should work. We haven’t used one yet. I would check the spline and voltage rating before purchasing one. Thanks for asking 😎👍

they over engineered the motor clamp, but forgot that the whole thing will shift under extreme driving.

I’ve been in the hobby for over 40 years but I’m still a kid at heart. The advise I would offer is this…go to your local hobby store and look around. If something calls to you look into it and make sure it is hobby grade and that parts are readily available. You might look on TH-cam as well to see how good it is. If you get one that thrills you, you picked the right one. There’s no way of predicting what you might like, that is a choice we all have to make at the time. Name brands usually work best and the parts are easier to get. Best of luck choosing. AJ

His advice is the Best but the Team Associated Rival MT and the 3s Typhon are both great choices to start. Losi also has a Tenacity DB Pro that is a few years old but an amazing RC for a little more and it can be driven hard but also handles on a pro level. Arrma 6s Typhon TLR tuned edition if you don’t mind spending 6 to 700 or a bit more is a winner but it comes down to your style. On Road is the easiest to deal with because you don’t need to clean the RC as much after a run but for some thats part of the fun! Countless choices! Tbh, the Kyosho Fazer mk2 is arguably the best RTR on road RC and there are at least 10 body styles to choose from at any given time. They handle amazing out of the box for like 240.00 and looks awesome.

Hopefully the owner of the pitbull replaced the tires they have to be responsible for there animals. anyway I don’t have a sledge but imo you need a new motor mount like you said Alu bulkheads and upgrade gears center front and rear and probably a chassis and shock towers

all you need for the sled is a motor support. if you want to put in a lot of money, that's your problem, but it's not necessary for sledge because it's well built
