- The Traxxas Sledge was designed to be a solid basher monster truck. But over our build series, we’ve shown you can have fun with this truck beyond what it was built for with a little creativity. In this final build of the series Greg has turned the Sledge into a track truggy. Taking cues from current race machines, the truck has been tweaked and modified to lay down some fast laps. Could this be the best build with the Sledge so far? Watch to find out!

I went back and watched some older videos last night, this video being one… this was a good series with the sledges… everybody wants to change their sledges(for some reason) so these are all awesome options. Great series Greg🤙🏻
My goodness - what a terrific job brother...this one is a gem looks absolutely stellar!!!!
Thanks so much! Really enjoyed this build!
Yes looks great 👍
My God !!!! That was Hands down one of the best Sledge builds I've ever seen.
Thanks! I love the way it came out. Might add the new carbon towers to it... just because! lol
The truck looked great. It seemed easy to jump and it hooked up well.
The paint on the bodys soo awesome ❤❤❤
Wow built looks fantastic 💯
This is definitely my favorite of the 3!
Nice driving, great build!
Thanks! I’m a bit rusty on the track with an 1/8. But got it around good enough to show it off. It was a blast!
Thank you for this series , this was fun to watch , my fav lineup is how they came out , #1-Summit #2 Street Sledge #3 Race Sledge
EPIC BUILD!!!
This is the best-looking Sledge, of all the builds!!
Wow!! Sweet build! Looks and runs really well. I can't say I understand why you built it but, it's pretty sweet. I guess if one REALLY wants to race a TRX, here it is. Love to hear how it fairs in competition. I am jealous of that track for sure, we literally have nothing like that in upstate NY that I'm aware of. Goid lock with it!!👍😁🍻
What a great build, that thing handled the track like a champ. I'm only glad I don't have a Sledge or I'd be ordering parts right now, haha. Thanks again for the amazing content Greg!
Love hitting that track with my sledge as well. Nice build my friend hope to see you at RC Madness one of these times
I think they are all awesome builds
Awesome project
I want to see a race with this Beast!
great video , thanks
Thank you! It all worked out great!
Wow! Way better than out of the box. Now u can keep up with the pros boyo🤙
Good stuff Greg. Like button energized.
Awesome build 👍🏽🤙🏽
Thanks! It was fun build.
I’m between the street truck and race truggy. Good stuff!
That looks dope
Thanks!!
The street Sledge is definitely my favorite
Truck looks good cranking out laps.
Nice build
The race version followed by the street basher… great thoughtful content bra…! 😊
Nice build , looks like a track beast
Awesome job the Summit body was my favourite
Thanks! I liked that one because it fooled so many people. I actually argued with someone that was convinced it was a complete Summit.
Awesome builds they all look amazing I would have to drive them to pick my favorite great job on all of them👍👍
Thanks, it was a big challenge to get them done, but in the end, they came out great and were fun to drive.
Now we need Traxxass themselves to actually come up with a buggy 1/8, and Truggy for real
Yea people have been saying that for 30 years now. I was hoping the sledge would finally be a race worthy platform with droop screws, but once again they ignored the "scale" of regulation 1/8 truggy class. And it is over priced as per usual.
Woah on that stretch it jyst keeps pulling🎉🎉🎉
Nice!
Sledge build 🙌🙌
“Traxxas Sledge Platinum Edition”
Now THAT would be SICK!
Sikkk brotha
Keep the tires, add 1' inch extentions for stability, and maybe some type of wheelie bar.
Also thickening up all the diffs will help when one tire just lifts off the pavement all the power won't fly to that tire making it go crazy flippy😮
Looks like a blast, some tweeks and it will be a beast, maybe not a big Sender but more controllable and some sends as well
Looks pretty worthy...give it some competition and find out..😮
Nobody talks about the droop screw spots on the undernieth of the arms
NIIIIICE 👌🏻
traxxas needs to shorten the Sledge to an 1/8 scale buggy already! and offer both the Sledge and TRX8 in nitro!!!!!
I’d love to see a nitro sledge truggy and buggy, maybe traxxas can even roll out a new true big block engine
I think you get on the new slash chassis
@@paulclancy2404 new slash chassis is longer than 1/8 buggy, and also not aluminum/flat style. The new Slash Raptor thing is an oddball size. Some have already made 1/8 buggies out of regular slash 4x4’s which is great, but it’s also not a 1/8 platform
that Sledge has a nice size
I would love to see how well your sledge dose In a race. I am using the sledge hs my truggy now and want to see other that are better driver lay down some labs
W.O.W 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Awesome build! I actually raced my mostly stock Sledge on 4S with a 17 tooth pinion against some much more expensive 8 scale buggies, I lost but had a bunch of fun!!! Can you link me the wheel and tire setup, that was the only thing I saw missing from the video?
Looks great…only one comment. Be judicious with aluminum parts. Aluminum = weight = slow.
great build, what a unit! I recently got a used Typhon 6s and it came with the Badland MXT tires. Do you think that is a good tire for a track or do the G-Maxx TIRES for Arrma Losi HPI Ofna 1/8 Buggy Black would be better?
What did you do to the rear shock lower mount bolt with the pin style
This was a great build series! Three very different trucks for sure. I think the track version is my favorite, and now I want to buy a Sledge and convert it from stock to track over time!
Thanks! I love doing builds. I really need to get back into the swing of being creative.
What wheels & tires are they? Awesome vid!!
Is that the stock wing mount? Also I thought 1/8 truggy wheels didn't fit on the sledge or had to be a certain offset?
So you basically kept the chassis, shocks, and differentials. Literally everything else was swapped out / changed. I imagine the cost of this build would be more than 2x the price of the stock RTR slash.
Also kept the arms, gear cases, hardware, bearings, lots of other little bits. But it was a big overhaul. But that's all part of the hobby, building what you want. If you just like running a stock slash, by all means do that. They're fun!
HOW MUCH WAS THE PARTS SEEMS LIKE YOU MAY AS WELL BUILT A KIT
Could build and power a mugen or xray for the price of truck and upgrades...
Indeed. Gotta be loyal to make sense of this build. Or loaded$$$🤷♂️😜
@@RMH386my Mugen Truggy from 2018 is amazing! The Mugen and my Serpent 811 cobra are my favorite 8 scale Truggy.
All three builds turned out great...picking just one to be "the best" isn't possible. But, I will say this, the 'Summit' was my least favorite...not by a huge amount, but enough to say, if I could only afford to do 2 of the 3, the 'Summit' is the one I'd pick to not do. Between the 'street' & 'track' options, honestly, I am COMPLETELY unable to pick one over the other. 🤙🏼
It's a tough call. The Summit is probably 3rd on my list. If the body was a bit longer, I think it would have really rocked. Did the best I could, while making something different.
Race truck is best
Nice driving.. 👍🏻 Better than tekno.. 😂
That was the first pack when I was driving it for the camera, I only got a few laps in for a TV crew prior to me taking my video. I also haven't driven a race truggy in years on a track. I think with a bit more track and tweak time the build would look even more impressive.
@@rcdriver 95% is always man behind the wheel.. 🤣
You really did this right, just curious how much did the truck weigh with no batteries
That's a cool project, but Traxxas upgrades seem grossly overpriced for the materials used. All them red labeled boxes made my wallet flinch. Love the final look, driver seems to peer through the gap in the front shock tower.
The price you pay for being fan of the 1st in bashing.
Is that the stock wing mount?
Hi, looks great. What do you use as a jumper between the 2 batteries?
I clamped two bullet connectors together (centered) and soldered them. It’s holding up so far.
@@rcdriver thank you!
The track Sledge
I believe it would've been more unique (and hella cheaper) to have stuck with the blue anodized parts, yellow body with matching blue accents. Bright yellow would stand out nicely in a pack too.🤷♂️
People need to support Traxxas look how much Parts they have in Stock this is awsome👍👍👍👍
Is it Is it possible to do the same thing to the Traxxas Rustler 4x4 vxl ??? Can we convert it to always tgg??????😊
They should... should do a straight kit that has all the upgrades, and leave everything else to the buyer. Or they would make it an rtr kit.
Nice video! Im using 16 pinon aswell on 2k motor i think its a bit to slow on 2S what do you think should be a better option?
2S? You should be running at least 4S. The two 2S packs in my truck are in series to run as 4S.
@@rcdriver 2*2s I should have wrote 2 shorty's so 4s same as you. But agree with you it feels a bit slow so wounder how big pinion is safe to try like 18?
Tuff
Did you here anything about traxxas killing off the erevo 2.0 off topi like the low slung sledge first build
That paint job looks sick. Does the guy you sent it to have a link or website or something?
Ah, found him @kustomrcgraphics
I would have kept the deception of it being a sledge by keeping the Sledge body
jc doesnt have 1/8 P2 bodies do they?
Sending this to Braden d, he races a sledge in Etruggy class.
Awesome!
Where did you get the Wing and Mount for the wing?
The wing mount is stock. I used a JConcpets Wing and Exotek Buttons. I added them to the list in the video description. I had to enlarge the wing button holes a little for the Traxxas flat head hex screws to go through.
The race truggy is the best by far. I wish you would of posted how much all those overpriced traxxas parts cost to turn this into a race truggy on top of the 7-800 dollar's for the truck itself plus the 700ish you have in tekin electronics. You should make a comparison video of what it costs to turn a turd into a race truck and what it costs to build a tlr or associated race kit. I would like to see numbers
I don't get what is different between a buggy and truggy?
Sometimes it's just the towers shocks hubs and wheels , only a smidge wider if we're talking race kits truck and a buggy together truggy
If you would have dropped this last week traxxas had a deal. Free light kit and Bluetooth with truck purchase. Curious what the used truck price was. I wanna get one.
I know 😩 the truck has been ready for a long time. Getting to the track was an issue and there were times I tried and the track was torn down for a redesign. In the end it was worth the wait. So much fun to drive!
Want to sell the on road sledge lol
Close to $600 in Traxxas parts + and a donor rig? Ouch
bro more motor? you need better shocks, that thing was slapping the floor
Next video...wellll I put the center brace back in 😆😆😆😆😆
Humm...losi/horizon should sue traxxas for those shock mounts
Such a dumb and childish comment. 🤦♂️ Thanks for being a part of the problem and ruining all the hard work Input into this video for the existing Traxxas community in the process.
Lol, what was childish was traxxas sueing arrma for the Nero. Or traxxas sueing anyone for RC fun. It's also childish for traxxas to need it's own race class just to be "competitive"
I put metal chassis braces front and rear and a whole lot of other metal upgrades that make my sledge heavier, my thinking is my car is heavy so if people don’t want their teknos or team associated to get ran over by a 40+ mph sledgehammer they’ll get out my way lol
I understand you are sponsored by Traxxas and you are promoting their products but I completely disagree with using their chassis and other aluminum parts they are way overpriced and they are weak especially after you removed the center brace, one good nose dive and that chassis will be tweaked I would have gone with m2c on the chassis and towers especially if you aren’t running a center brace. But overall the truck looks sweet
Tekno Bone driveshaft are just better and cheaper
Traxxas open your eyes and see this
@@PigglyWigglyDeluxe Its the fastest name in RC. They dont race but they sponsor alot of different racing so its in their blood
@@mikescherrer4923 You think he bought them? None of those upgrades except shock towers were needed. Im just saying the platform is there
@@mikescherrer4923 I'm telling Traxxas they can do same thing and market towards racing at $1000 or so. $600 to a $700 rig is pennies when compared to price of true built race kit.
With all those upgrades you could have just bought a losi 8xte 😂🤦♂️
Um this is a hobby. Where people get to build whatever they like for their own enjoyment. Welcome! 😄
@@rcdriver no shit 😂
The packaging for the Traxxas upgrades is disgustingly wasteful. All that foam just going in the trash.
So you took a stupidly priced truck and threw some stupidly priced parts at it to produce something seemingly not as good as a ready made race truck... for a tonne of extra cost?
He bought the Shit that Traxxas should have done right
Hi Sri can you do it with the Arrma Vorteks 3s turn it into a race tuggy???
Thank you my friend!
@@rcdriver I'm one of you fans.. we really like to see a video that Arrma Vorteks 3s tune into a Race tuggy.... Can you do it or is it impossible to convert it to a race Tuggy !!!
Already kind of is a truggy derived from the granite , you have to use brcc chassis or just convert the buggy , really wouldn't make sence , this is already a truggy and vortex is mine version of one already
Build from nothing don't buy then spend 1500 bucks on
Parts are where companies make their money. There’s lots of parts needed from the stock truck to make it happen. Starting with a used truck like I did was a good route for the build.
