    I understand the reason to save space in the trunk, but maybe it should be optional before buying the car. I would pay extra for a spare tire and pay more for a full size spare.

    • @putnammonroe718
      @putnammonroe718 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In the case of the hybrids you would end up filling your trunk with the spare, there is no "under the trunk" space, that is where the battery is. Unfortunately, Hyundai isn't the only manufacturer eliminating spares, the removal of the weight helps them meet the miles per gallon requirements.

    Bring back the spare tire! Or at least give an option to the buyer. Better yet provide both a tire and an inflation kit. My salesman (accidentally or conveniently) left out any info on the lack of a spare tire when I purchased my new 2022 Tucson. Either way I felt a bit a bit duped. In the end, this is really more about cost savings to Hyundai (and all other car manufacturers that have chosen to go this route) than it is to the consumer. Fuel economy savings are minuscule at best. Ultimately, nothing beats peace of mind when you're stranded on a country road 250 mi from the nearest Hyundai dealership. I guess I'll be purchasing a spare tire and a jack. Thanks, Hyundai!

  • @captnrb
    @captnrb 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    From what I have been told, once the tire has this sealant inside, it cannot be repaired by the traditional internal plugging. The sealant is temporary repair and is useless on many punctures. I guess Hyundai is saving weight and money by deleting the spare tire or donut, and the jack. It means that many flats will require a flat bed back to a dealer and a major inconvenience to the customer, plus loss of the vehicle if it occurs when the service department is closed.

    • @helloworld6160
      @helloworld6160 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that's for tire plugs not interior sealant. I think it has something to do with using the spike to enlarge the hole to make room for a plug which screws up the band in side the tire

    It is the first time I have a car without reserve tyre and with a Mobility Kit. I confess I am a bit nervous to go on vacation this way. I miss the days when it was standard procedure to deliver a car with a proper reserve tyre, not an emergency one, and the necessary tools.

      I had a 2018 Tucson that for some reason attracted every nail and screw for a 10 mile radius around my car.
      I had a ton of flat tires caused by such debris... the internal tire pressure gage would show almost no pressure, I'd check the tire...
      They were always drivable... not sitting on the rim.
      I had a spare in the 2018 Tucson but never needed to change the tire... they were always drivable to the repair shop.
      I now have a 2023 Tucson Hybrid with no spare... im going to assume (fingers crossed) I still have run-flat tires.

    Hyundai also may charge you $100-$200 to replace the gunk, depending on the country you live in. then if the Inflation valve (the valve that lets you know the pressure of your tyre whilst driving) contacts the gunk, they there is another $100 for replacement. I put together my own spare tyre.

      I sure hope it works I'm a rural Gramma, diy, if it works, how long will it hold up, I wonder, and I hear the tire can't be patched after it has sealant in it? One time repair, not cheap to buy a replacement canister, not economical, when you weigh it with potential towing, seal failing, tire replacement, and buying a 200.00 canister again. I'd prefer more basic, solid security, and paying a few cents more in petrol is nothing compared to peace of mind

    My wife had a side wall puncture on a rear tire on a Friday evening during rush hour. This kit would not work so the tow driver had to call a flat bed which was a 90 minute wait in the dark on a busy highway. Once back home, I had to remove the tire and leave car on a jack stand and use another car to bring the bad tire to a tire shop and have it replaced. What a complete fail on Hyundai part to save $175 on not including the spare. Lucky the car was under 3 years old, so Hyundai roadside assistance paid entire bill but what an inconvenience.

    Hyundai has a large section of the auto market for Obvious reasons of price points and LONG warranties (compared to Totota and GM) but I agree with the other comments absolutely. My WIFES NEW 23 Elantra Limited hybrid came with a DONUT and I still bought a full size rim and spare for her (so she has two spares). I just bought a 23 Sonata Hybrid and NO donut no spare just mobility kit. What did I do? Just purchased a full size IDENTICAL machined rim from HM (Hubcap Haven in MN) and full size spare tire. I'm currently purchasing a small jack. No substitute for immediate road side assistance (YOU or ME) and no one is going to use a silly tire mobility kit with tons if restrictions. The minute Hyundai sends surveys I'll reply to them the same way

    I just had this happen to me, I did not realize they had a can of high-tech fix-a-flat in the trunk. What a waste. Once you use this, you must replace the tire. They also do not give you the wrench part (only the socket) for the nut lock, so I could not even change the tire if I were to borrow a jack from my husbands car. So Hyundai just guaranteed three things: 1 - I have to have the car taken to a hyundai dealer, 2 - I have to replace the whole tire, and 3 - I won't be buying a hyundai again. I was not even given the option of purchasing the tire accessory kit (costs $194) with the jack and emergency parts that I would need to replace the tire if it was taken to another garage.

    A tire mobility kit is a bad idea if you are stuck in the middle of nowhere with no phone signals then you are completely F&*&. And if it's nighttime, you get the idea. Even though you are able to call a roadside assistant, it will still be a long time before they get to you. I want to buy a Hyundai Tucson, but not including a tire is a deal breaker for me. It makes absolute sense for them to put the mobility kit in your trunk instead of a spare. Let me explain. Hyundai also sells spare tires in their shop for roughly $500 without tools. If they put a spare in your trunk, how do they sell you this kit! If they put this kit in your trunk, the listing price is lower, gas millage higher, trunk space also higher, and they might just sell you a spare for $500 later. It's a no brainer they did what they did.
