The younger generations (including mine, lol) are still fortunate to be seeing performances like this, thanks to the Internet. Although it would have been definitely better to have experienced it live.
At age 14, in1974, I saw Ella Fitzgerald at Saint Catherine's College in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Tommy Flanagan was the pianist and Keeter Betts was the bassist. Not sure who the summer was. Trumpeter Roy Eldridge played first, then Ella sang. After the concert, I met Ella Fitzgerald, Keeter Betts, and Tommy Flanagan afterward. I will never forget that night as long as I live!
Ella has been a favorite of mine for years. As a musician, I like to do intros (when singing) as it can set off main lyrics and I could always count on looking up a song that Ella sang because she always did the intros! Ella can suit your many moods with her singing, but if you feel down, just listen to this album and there's no way you can be depressed with the happy, entertaining style of Ella and her group!
Between 1974 and 1988 ? I saw Ella several times in Germany and each time I was allowed backstage in her dressing room after the concert. Norman Granz was waiting in the dressing room and he was very reserved, almost shy, while Ella was always curious to know who you were. I will never forget it ...
Had tickets for the Hollywood bowl in the night, took my children to the rehearsal in the morning, 6 and 4, Ella invited them to the stage, Doo waap with them, was so much better than the concert that night ❣️❣️❣️❣️
I watched her live, front row at Hamilton Place, Hamilton, Ontario. show was taping a show. It was up close and personal. She would stop and giggle, say fun comments. I was 12 yrs old. Soooooo cooool.❤
im only 28 but i absolutely love this older music along with many others... just so much more talent and soul put into the art. Too many signed artist today are just carbon copy sellouts and its rare to find true talent in the industry today.
Pure classic ! Ella Fitzgerald = pitch perfect , she sings from the Soul!!! Love Scat. Love her !!!! Love how Ella defines music ... and then there's SWING!!!!!

Everytime I see Ella Fitzgerald, I see a church mother....with the voice of an angel. I would have loved to hear her sing gospel though.
I love that the band is smiling and enjoying Ella’s amazing voice. Its sure is a privilege to see her perform
Not sure what I’ve been doing with my life besides listening to Ella Fitzgerald
She sounds 21 years old, incredible
saw her live at the Fiesta club Sheffield England the same year i was 18 she blew me away

The clarity of her voice so late in her life is amazing!!!!
she doesnt really push her voice that much. and she has a fairly clean lifestyle too. her voice was still beautiful even in her last years.
She was 57
Heard her in 1976 at a July 4th celebration... Dear God Miss Ella Fitzgerald is and will always be # 1. Beautiful!!!!!!!!
@@tdvcyt2534 there.
The greatest diction of all the great singers. None topped her in that category, among others.

Wow! Even as she aged, her voice remained powerful, clear, and strong.
She is 56 here. What's the age!
👍👍📝. TY KINDLY. On age.
Thank you! In 1974 she's at the height of her powers.
The Goat !! Nothing else
The clarity. Orphaned at 15 she navigated the rough NYC streets to become a vocal Jazz Icon.

It’s crazy to me how much older people looked back then. In 1974 she was 57 or 58 I would have thought she was much older than that here

The recording quality is in keeping with the matchless singing and musicianship. Thank you so much for sharing.
