ehh to me the older stuff looks better /more effect esp with gigi in my op she went down hill hard compared to the art in the books... the game ehh 50/50...
The art direction for the movie is way better. I like how well told the light novel is, but snippets of art in LNs tend to be quick and simple to make you get an idea of how everything looks a bit better without going into extreme detail. Great editing and visual flair, keep up the good work.
Lane Aim probably has the least of amount changes compared to everyone else. Second would probably be Hathaway himself. The new redesign look overall more realistic in comparison and fits better in our modern world. Gigi looks like an exaggerated galactic 80s sci-fi princess in her older design which is fine for that era, but feels a bit out of place if the design was kept for today. Hathaway like other modern UC series like Unicorn, Thunderbolt, and Origins not just have character fashion change, all surrounding technology beside the Mobile Suits fit our modern perspective of futuristic technology with computer screens being slimmer to the point that you can literally fold it like paper as seen in Unicorn instead of the 0079 perspective where is more like the Jetson in which they keep the box television of the time and put wheels on it.
Minor correction: The RX-104FF is just Penelope, not Penelope Gundam. That's because it's a combination of the RX-104 Odysseus Gundam and the Fixed Flight unit.
@@FuruHataNinzaburo-w8z I recall Penelope was just that in the novel, then later expanded to being a combination of Odysseus Gundam and the Fixed Flight Unit
I really like what theu did with the Xi-G and Penelope. When it comes to their designs, you can tell that they are related suits. But unlike the Penelope which is just the Odyseus with a bunch of stuff piled on, the Xi is way more streamlined and looks like something thats entirely new. This kinda reflects the differences and simularities between Mafty and the Federation. Both are monsterous behemoths, but they are monsterous in their own ways. The Penelope has dark and menacing colours and a silhouette that barely resembles a ms. The Xi has lighter, almost angelic colours but has the proportions of a beast.
Really hope Hathway gets the soft Kamille development. I remember watching Zeta and absolutely hating Kamille, but as the series went and Char took him under his wing, he became one of my most favorite Gundam characters. This is also my favorite Char arc. As for Kusi Gundam - I love the classic, sharp and angled look typical of Katoki. Though he is not as sleek as Zeta, Hi - Nu R92 v2 or Nu Gundam, he is still one of my favorite designs. Also, is it me or does Gigi look like a Russian fashion model lol. That being said, I love the redesign of each character.
In my opinion Hathaway is getting the soft kamile development , even though this is just the first of three movies it feels like Hathaway has become a fair bit more developed.
I personally love the redesigns and the fact that they are actually keeping pace with the modern UC style. Even the newer redone scenes in the original film trilogy and Zeta films match up as well as the amazing Origins ovas. Makes me wish they would go and remake the original series and Zeta. These days the more serious tones are more accepted and taking out some of the goofiness from the original series and zeta would greatly benefit both stories imo. Plus, newer/younger anime fans would greatly benefit from having a more up to date animation telling such an amazing and heartbreaking tale.
Character designs were definitely an improvement - especially in how much more appealing Gawman looks in 2021 than in his original design. I can also empathize more with new Hathaway's face - something about his first design's face was off-putting, or had some more sinister vibes. The Xi's new redesign is a mixed bag: the overall feel and surface resolutions are much better (original concepts were very interesting but weren't as fleshed out nor felt as practical to make as war machines), but certain areas are a bit overdone, like the central chest area which has a messier read. I also liked the traditional double v-fin rather than the exaggerated curved one of new Xi. The mechanical and functional details for the new Xi are amazing, but Katoki's design is still the best in shape proportions though IMO. Great research and work in putting this together! Also Steven, what kind of design work do you do?
That's like how the things was done on that time, novel Hathaway looks perfect at 90's, the game 2000 was ok at the start but don't taked the age well and the movie design looks how good they matured the art with a new design for future.
I love Hathaway Noa's design in the movies. He closely resembles Bright Noa when he was younger. I wonder, in the second and third movie, will Bright Noa show up to deal his son's shenanigan?
@@janlim0916 spoiler option didn't work lol, it just shows it and I'm not sure how I feel about that ending, this movie made me like noa but staying fateful to the original and the message it gives out is important to maintain
The movie versions are better for me. The novel versions used too much of pre-existing designs as a nod to other tomino characters but since it's now 2020/2021, the fashion sense and the changes is more fitting for the setting.
I personally like the movie version of the Xi a lot. It has a much more neutral color scheme overall, and the bits of color are tastefully used as accents. It gives it a more mature, rebellious kind of vibe, like the Nu gundam
Sunrise took notes from the novel character and mobile suit design language and iterated heavily from there to give it its own distinct anime look and feel, rather than relying on the designs that came from the games as the base.
MS Design WIse, I've always been a Katoki fan ever since early 2000's from Super Robot Wars (and "lul long legz" meme). New character designs seem very typical of recent UC streamlining. All the redesigns move into more realistic features and handsome/beauty look while the game art seems more reminiscent of classic character design (more outrageous). Of course, I'm not saying the older/game style looks better but I can't help but to think Sunrise tends to move into the more serious tone now (except for that goofy Narrative pose from the poster). I personally didn't care much about novel stuff back then so Sentinel, Hathaway's Flash and Gaia Gear weren't very interesting except for the ALICE system, S Gundam and it's line of MS (EX-S and Deep Striker). I really did love Ecole du Ciel, Zeta side story and Tokyo Pop went bankrupt right before revealing the Le Cygne (in volume 7 or 8?). Haruhiko Mikimoto did character art for Hathaway's Flash and was the main artist for the manga, Ecole du Ciel.
I already watched Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway movie. I love it! So good and so beautiful anime film. I watched your video with a question at the end. I voted all of character and mobile suit designs are best from the movie version!
The original design more closely resemble to Macross while the anime version looks closer to reality (except the Gustav Karl, where the EFF symbol mark like the big "X" and tell everyone please shoot here).
One thing I know on the master grade Wing Zero Gundam Ver.Ka. For whatever reason on my kit the thigh SWIVEL is very tight. Every time when I move it, it feels like I’m gonna break it. And I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong when I was building it or if it’s a common thing for other kits.
