Frank was a genuine great admired by everyone who cares about jazz -- but anonymous to the rest of the world. While in high school I heard the Basie band with Billy Mitchell and the two Franks (Foster and Wess) on tenor. It changed my ears for life. Frank's writing for Basie was the best of the best. Anyone who will watch this clip already knows all that. As a horse racing fan, it was a kick--a week from the Breeder's Cup--to hear "Call to the Post" (around 3:56). Thanks f or the upload.
