The story that goes with this song is interesting. A song composed by Neal Hefti. Count Basie apparently called Hefti and asked if he could play the song slowed down. Hefti was okay with it and that's what we got that the world has heard and come to love. Funny how things get started..
Rest in Peace Manny Boyd-lead alto,Bill Hughes-bass trombone,Bob Ojeda-trumpet,Grover Mitchell-conductor.Prime Thought of some of my best musical moments is with them.
Dreaming of the man that got away and when we danced so slow together in the summer at a special club. Oh so fine. He smelled so clean and fresh. This is what memories are made of.
But you had that time, that memory. It's yours and some people don't have that. I'm not speaking for myself; my wife and I have been married 52 years and 4 couples/friends have been married longer.
And I still dream of him to this day- especially when I hear this song on WRTI Jazz in Philly - Nope-- I let him get away. slipped right through my fingers. What a fool I am.
@@nancyann4309 It's too bad lots of us know that feeling. Different people, different places, different times, but the same regret. Just part of the human condition I guess. Who knows though, maybe you dodged a bullet? Best of luck to ya.
Wow- Bob Ojeda (solo muted trumpet) is actually playing an Olds Ambassador! In the Olds line, the Ambassador was the least expensive, beginner student model, though highly regarded today.
This orchestra together with the Duke Ellington orchestra has gone down in history as greatest of the big band era. They were different in their approaches.
STFU Will Matthews has a great sound that has been disgustingly and unjustly criticized by who ever this is You didn't like the great Freddy Green on guitar either.I was there with both of them.
It's the theme coming in on the upbeat and then holding tones 'longer than usual' that simply makes this so lovely.
I LOVE THIS SONG,THANK YOU FOR UP LOADING!!!
Takes me back 60 yrs. It was my FAVORITE on a jukebox in a neighborhood bar. I would play it o0ver and over !
Rest in peace, Freddie Green, the heartbeat of Basie. Everytime I hear that intro, I remember that wonderful, sweet man, timekeeper extraordinaire!
A BASIE CLASSIC!!!!!!!!
Brings tears to my eyes ____ this is forever ____ the kid from red Bank!!
You are not alone with a tear or two my friend.
Only those elite musicians play the slow tempo songs with such grace.

One of my favorite composition!
Pure gold.
Emotional for these guys. Wonderful!
Total Class!
I've played in big band jazz but playing trombone, this is so hard to play at the right slow speed as this ,genius
Not to mention, maintaining the intonation.
Great !!!!❤❤❤❤
Beautiful, that's all I can say!

This seems to be the slowest take of this great tune ever 🥰

Amazing
That soloist😍😍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This song reminds me the something the English poet Robert Frost spoke about regarding the inseparareability of beauty and truth.
Robert Frost was American
@@johnmiddleton1073 Thank you for the correction.
This song puts me to sleep, but what do I know?
HEAT
Of course, the entire orchestra is stellar, but especially, I think I just became a Bob Ojeda fan :-)
rip..
was the piano ending lick supposed to be mona lisa
Who is the trumpet soloist?
Bob Ojeda, wonderful muted trumpet sound.
A great player, arranger, and good friend. RIP Bob. We all miss you.
Huh. I can actually hear the guitar more clearly in this.
You my like this version by some young people from Barcelona: th-cam.com/video/3xmkhPNOfC8/w-d-xo.html
Remembering Freddie Green, the heartbeat of Basie, who always kept time for this number! Wonderful man
So tasty!
Dreeeeamy...
Love this piece, but they play it way too slow.
Much more difficult to play than a fast tune. Intonation has to be spot on.....as well as attacks.
The piano player needed to use a litter touch........Nice tempo.
Where did the white guys come from??????
Literally been white guys on the Basie band since the 60s.
👞
What a disgusting guitar sound !!! He spoils everything !!!

Shinkar Music is stinky
Not a hater but I was thinking the same thing. His strumming was adequate but some of his notes made me cringe.
