Che meravigliosa orchestra!! 🎶 Grande Count Basie !! 🎶 from Lake Como Italy ❤
Was für ein orchester!!!!!!!
Just had to watch this concert all the way to the end. It's addictive. Count was my all-time favorite big band. Hearing this band in my youth (through my father), but understanding this band musically, it just amazes me everytime I hear new arrangements and solos. God Bless TH-cam. I wish it was available in my father's days.
A well-oiled machine, perfectly tuned, running at 100% efficiency. Nothing like it before, and nothing since. What a band!
Real Musicians - a breath of fresh air.
I went with my dear friend Wally Bishop, ex swing-drummer in the Earl Hines band and who lived in Holland back stage. Basie and his wife Catherine were sitting there and on a table was a birthday cake. I seem to remember that he called 1979 his ongoing 75th birthday bash/tour! Very nice humble and gentle man. By far the best bluesy/swing band ever! Since about 1972 the Basie-band recorded many, utterly fantastic/iconic albums for the Pablo label. Well worth checking out. So Dig this amazing swing-machine folks, Enjoy & Cheers!
❤😊THERE IS NOTHING LIKE THE REAL THING. I LOVE THE COUNT BASIE BAND. THE VERY BEST IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD SIMPLY!❤❤❤😊.
I was at that concert in 1979. It changed my life.
Ik ook :-)
ook ik. Damn, now, i'm 40 years older .
@@thegrovejuicespecial5221 Joh :-) Ikke ook !!!!
Yeah ok
Wish I could say that.
Always loved jazz. This it. Jazzy Jeff.
Yes!!
I got to see him up close once. It was in NYC and he was just leaving his hotel to get on the tour bus. They had to bring him out to the bus in a wheel chair, but he wasn't about to stop touring just because of that. Awesome man. Awesome musician, Awesome band, Awesome music.
I just turned 89 and being able to listen to Bill Basie takes me back to my discovery of his tight little sound those many years ago. While my friends were listening to Elvis I was digging the sounds of Woody Herman Duke, Charlie Barnet, Harry James, Stan Kenton, and listening to Ella, Billie, Joe Williams, Frank, Nat King Cole and Martha Tilton. But to me the best of the bands was my all time favorite Count Basie. So neat, so swinging!!!! Thank you for this upload. The world seems happier listening to this awesome band.
I saw the Basie band at Gröna Lund in Stockholm in the summer of 79 and it was of course an experience you never forget! What a band and this version of the Basie band is for sure one of the best. In later years I had the pleasure to catch the band several times in Sweden when Butch Miles was back behind the drums and he is, beside being a fantastic drummer also a true gentleman. I had the pleasure of meeting him several times and we chatted about drums and the Basie band. Great memories for me, being an amateur jazz drummer myself!
What a great jazz legacy the 20th century has given us!
A finely tuned and well oiled musical machine. The Count Basie band. E=mc2 Atomic!
Butch Miles giving Sonny Payne a lot of competition on Shiny Stockings - great drummer driving a great band!
The big band sound is still good for the soul with all the accents , punctuations, syncopated rhythmic beats.
Especially with the contrast if the sky, subtle, ironic and humor
I agree with this comment !!!
Especially the humor!
We just lost butch miles in February of this year. The last of the truly lagit big band drummers.
Wow!! The greatest live band I've ever seen right here.
Count Basie, a jazz instituition and one of my favorite sounds
Some the finest musicians on the planet what about era for music and big band
I could listen to the Basie band(s) all night -- and I have. Thanks for posting this.
Pauley Cohen, one of the all time great lead trumpeters, on lead trumpet and soloing on "I can't get started with you" Big fat sound.
Thanks to Leo Cheers broadcast SIU Edwardsville for introducing me to Jazz. Thanks to Don Wolf, Attorney for continuing to play jazz. I love jazz and miss you both. ❤❤❤!
God, I love this! The Count makes everything right!
QUANDO MUSICOS E MUSICA ÉRA MUSICA !!!HOJE TEMOS QUE NOS CONFORMAR !!!!! COM BARULHOS DESA FINOS//////////
My Thanksgiving is to basie, Ellington, Herman, Kenton, Brubeck, Cole etc, etc, who gave us such great enjoyment and to whatever supermind/power gave us the ability to enjoy it.
This is the symbol of the CLASSIC BIG BAND JAZZ era as we knew it. So pity.
Always a pleasure to listen to the Count Basie big band.
Count Basie is one of the greats his album with Frank Sinatra Live at the Sands is totally outstanding!
To the 92 that disliked the video.... What was there to not like!??!?!? Take a music class or something damn, this is beyond category.
The fact that you cant hear the horns hardly over the cymbol heavy drums directly into the microphone.
Those folks who don't like Basie don't know any better. They're going through growing pains.Maybe one day they'll grow up and appreciate this music.
I shook the Counts hand and got his and the orchestra's signatures at Subiaco Oval in Perth Western Australia ,1970,71 ish.
My mum n dad took me along n when the show finished myself n loads of other young children went through the open gates on the footy ovals perimeter fence.I remember music well.
Choice vid cheers
The Count Basie Orchestra : my favorite Big Band of all time ! (the drummer is absolutly fantastic ! )
Got to witness this amazing band at The Playboy Jazz Festival in the Hollywood Bowl! He closed the evening with a great set and we floated home humming the tunes in our heads.
He was the Best The Basie band was supreme
When I was a little kid, maybe 11 yeard old?, hard to remember exactly, I got to see the Count and his orchestra live, probably 1979 ish, my dad took me. I don't remember the details but I do remember that big lush sound! I had grown up listening to jazz so I was into it and for whatever reason, if not my good fortune, after the show we went to the side gate to see if we could see the Count leave and get into the tour bus... well after a little while guess who we see coming by, the count himself! He stopped and we chatted for a bit, I have no idea what I said, but he gave me his autograph and I still have it to this day. :)
Fantastic!
Love this story, it is so typical of him. We lived next door to Count Basie, (uncle Bill) for 8 years. My father being English, one of the stories he told us was how much he loved going to London. He told us that the British were very reserved and when he was out walking he would see people recognise him, but didn't approach, thinking they would be intruding, but what they didn't know is, he wanted them to come up to him, he wanted to chat, after all, without them he was nothing.
Your Dad was very enlightened. I was 26 and saw Basie and the band several times by then. Met him once a few years later and shook his hand. Heck of a thing.
TUTTI QUESTI MUSICISTI JAZZISTI SONO SOLISTI DAL PRIMO ALL' ULTIMO TUTTI SANNO SUONARE MINIMO 4, 5, STRUMENTI A PERFEZIONE CON GRANDE SWING ! Basie li suona TUTTI !!! GENI !!
Fantástico Count Basie band........
What an amazing Standard of Excellence to have been maintained through decades. This very well could be my favorite Count Basie Orchestra of them all but that's like asking who's your favorite child...You say the name Count Basie and People smile.
At the Nice Jazz Festival some time during the 1980s, I was sunbathing by the rooftop pool of a beachfront hotel (possible the Meridian) and Butch Miles was on the sunbed next to me. Great guy.
Thank you for sharing more power and God bless you
Such wonderful musicianship.
Butch Miles impresionante baterista!! John Clayton magnifico!!
Yes but nobody can replace Sonny Payne for this band
J'étais là, à Pleyel Paris , pour son dernier concert à Paris❤❤❤
Dennis Rowland-what a great singer!
.....and the kid on drums played some great stuff....especially his single-stroke rolls...
The Count @ the top of his game....Good to see Butch Miles in action....a seriously underrated drummer (I think even Buddy Rich liked him). If he's still around, hope he's still gigging. He lives in sorta my 'hood. (Austin, Texas.)

Iv'e never heard the tune Good Mileage before, the usual drum feature for the Basie Band was Whirlybird. Butch was my all time favorite Basie drummer.
Редкое удовольствие , БРАВО!
Magnificent
God’s music.
Pete Minger , one of the greatest trumpet player ever on flugelhorn.
Wow! What a concert and what a great sound mix. I've never seen or (knowlingly) heard Butch Miles before, but what a powerful yet musical drummer. The Count's playing is so exceptionally beautiful and understated as ever. Oh, just such a tight swinging band. And the set - Shiny Stockings, plus a wonderful Bunny Berigan chart and my favourite Hefti composition, Splanky. This is just such a treat - thank you for uploading...

Tremendo director y pianista.. Tremendos músicos. Muy impresionante el solo de batería. Un placer a los oídos esta espectacular orquesta.
I was excited to see this come up on youtube, but I saw Cont Basie there in 1978 and have the program in front of me, if this in 1979 than it was not the first concert.
totally Wonderful!!
So tight!
Super Butch!!!!
...was that Freddie Greene on guitar? Whoa! GREAT rhythm section!
Yes. And of course.
Yes it is!!!
Moody let that Trombone do the talking!
Great camera work
