  • 1987 Toyota Land Cruiser HJ61 PROJECT PART 1: Interior and gearbox removal!
The 61's 33 years old and has seen almost half a million kilometers so there's some rust and a bit of wear and tear. Gearbox and transfer works ok, but there's some minor noises at times, especially after long drive when oil is hot and thin. I'm gonna rebuild both of them, do a few mods, change a new heavy duty clutch, get the flywheel machined and propably change clutch cylinders. The old oil sump is beaten up and fixed several times and it's made of 2 thin (propably 0,8 mm?) sheet metals with plastic in between - it's unreliable and very hard to fix - I'm gonna make a new sump of 3 mm (1/8 inch) steel! It's gonna handle small caliber handgun fire and can be repaired in mongolian desert village if needed. I want my 61 to be strong, simple and reliable in future trips!

Thanks for your comment! Here In Finland most of the Hj61s have only 3 seats because of taxing. A new video of gearbox dissemble is gonna come out soon! Enjoy your 61!

Hello, I just saw your video and I have a few questions. Where can we find the front passenger seat you have. Do you have the color codes for your body paint? I find her really nice. Thank you for your feedback. Olivier from France (Toulouse)

Hello! It's an original HJ61 two passenger front seat. I hope you'll find one! I don't know the colour codes yet, but I'll have to find out them because there's some serious rust repairs going on! I'll tell you when I find out the codes. Thanks for your comment!

God stuff. Where are you located? This HJ61 looks like a scandinavian spec (3 seats, whinch)? Best regards from a HJ61 owner from germany. :-)
