2:32 - How to fall in love with a composer. That's honestly my favorite motive from all of Rachmaninoff, followed by the 18th variation of paganini and 3rd concertos' ossia cadenza
Of course, we all do, even world class pianists like Lugansky, Horowitz, Kissin, EVERYONE! The difference is when it happens in a concert they find a way to seamlessly play through it. That's the real trick!
haha - had a little kink in the joints at 1:06. I would not be surprised if a few top level pianists get that after playing for 6 hours a day ... Nikolai is just brilliant.
@TheSamu94 Ma secondo me... e come fai ad aver parole!!!! Giusto le cicale riescono a non tacere!!!! Spettacolo! Mi sa che lui ce dorme pure col pianoforte.
Sorry to disagree, not a momentary lapse but more like a hand ache, look how tensed up is his thumb. It's a so incredible playing and it's only a rehearsal ;)

I'm so excited right now.. Ecstatic to hear my favorite Rach1.... 2:33 This section is so precious. I'll believe this is heaven.......
Fascinating, really enjoyable & illuminating. I had the fortune to attend the concert which was every bit as exciting as this preparation promises.
I hear the orchestra in my mind, this is enormous.
He is looking on he left like there was the orchestra !
3:35 that crescendo gives me chills
haha he looks like he's on vacation.
His touch is superb and out of the world

@demosj He did, all of them. Rach 1-4, Rach paganini, with Chopin and Corelli Variation. It is on Warner Classics.
I hope he makes a VIDEO of this.

@thiswastoogood This was not a performance. Just rehearsal, people are not even supposed to be there.
Could be a cramp. This piece is really hard on the muscles in the wrists and fingers.
@logosthedestroyer look at yuja wang videos... scarlatti played by wang supported by "cricket percussion"
He sounds eerily like Vasary here and there, doesn't he?
