When I read the books, it was impossible not to picture Maggie Smith in my head. It's like JK Rowling thought of her every time she wrote about McGonagall.

1:51 - 2:11 The moment she turns and awakens the statues, and they begin to fall to the ground before rising gives me absolute chills, no matter how many times I watch it. There's something so... heart stopping about this scene, be it the music, the imagery, the dialogue... it all comes together perfectly in a way that makes it stand out from the rest, but that's just my opinion.

The only difference in both the scene ( Endgame and Hogwarts) is that alot of character like students , teachers and others who defended the castle, while in Endgame battle literally only Ironman (Tony stark ) died ,of course other wakandan soldiers and socrecers could have died but Hogwarts battle was more impactful .

The way McGonagall says "And his name is Voldemort!" It makes you want to grab a wand and defend Hogwarts by her side.
Also take a look at Molly Weasley. You can basically feel how her gut is wrenching throughout the entire scene. Not because she is scared for her own safety but because she knows that her entire family is going to take part in a battle against the most dangerous wizard of all time. It's like she said in book 5, after the incident with the boggart: "Half the family’s in the Order, it’ll be a miracle if we all come through this ..." I bet that's all she can think of in that situation.

Slughorn immediately turns around when he hears McGonagall say the spell. As if he's shocked that she is actually using it. Such a small detail that shows how serious this is now. Love it.

do you remember the bit where she was talking to him about how Voldemort should make him feel alone and cut off because that made him weak? Luna is the sweetest human being ever, which is good because if she wanted to destroy Harry and take over the world, she could probably do it
This may have been the best scene in the entire series. The entire school, teachers and students, working to protect each other and give Harry the time he needs to defeat Voldemort for good.
I feel happy for Mcgonagall because she's always wanted to use that spell so I'm happy for her.

It's also a build up to a climax that has been in the works for a decade and eight movies. If you grew up with Potter, this was a moment that you finally realized it really was about to end, but not before one last swan song. And the music of course lends to that theme perfectly.

@@user-rs7xf5tm9s i think its different from person to person. I am more of a Harry Potter fan and i think the ligthing was good and also the scenes. There is no doubt that lord of the rings has alot better cinemadocrafy throu out all of the films, but i think this scene is one of a few scenes in Harry Potter that outshine most lord of the ring scenes. The acting is Great and so is the camera work.
But this is just my opinion and I think the two series are so so good and overall they are both ecually as good 😊

no this scene is most definite in my top 5 emotional moments from this film: 1) Snape's memories 2) protecting Hogwarts (especially her remark to Filius...so incredibly strong) 3) the scene with Snape's speech and mcGonagalls and Snape's fight 4) the family gathered around Fred's body and Remus and Tonks 5) Snape's death ....I saw the film again yesterday and it hit me as never before...so many emotions.
I wish they had shown Mgonagall, Kingsley and Slughorn duelling Voldemort.

I wish Professor Sprout had been in this scene instead of Molly. The heads of Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherin and Hufflepuff protecting the school. I missed her throughout the entire movie. Oh well, at least she showed up at the end and this scene is still awesome
She was there in the book. In a brief mention, she is gleefully gathering dangerous plants from her greenhouses to set up as traps around the school.

Protego Maxima (I protect to the highest order) Fianto Duri (to become hard aka strengthen, and repels bodies) Repello Inimicum (repels bodies, when used in combination with Protego Maxima and Fianto Duri, disintegrates anything that comes in contact with the shield).

When the stone soldiers awakened the saddest thing that came to mind is that those figures stood watch over the school for almost a millennia and people thought they were just decoration.

As a history nerd (sort of) I have to point out, that unfortunately those statues couldn't have been a millenium old, half of that more likely.
Note that they look like they have a full plate armor and use two handed, pole weapons so they must've been made somewhere around XV century.
But then again, the Gryffindor's Sword suffers from the exact same issue, so whatever.

The spell loosely translates to “I move the forth dutiful soilders.”.
I always thought the spell, translated from latin, was more along the lines of "I give life to statues" or "automation to totems (defenders, in this sense)".

Had he and Snape still been alive to face Voldemort when his fate was closing in, imagine had they joined Kingsley, McGonagall and Slughorn when they fought Voldemort. He wouldn't have stood a chance against the five of them. Would have been so badass.

I remember reading this book in seriously a delirious fever, I straight up didn't sleep for an entire night and consumed it whole. I recall watching the movie and when the music starts to swell and McGonagall turns, I was like oh shit this is the part with the statues and the protective spells. And I just broke down in the theater like a big old baby. Seemed like my entire childhood and teenage years flashed before my eyes.
i just wish they wouldve used every single statue and armor piece like they did in the books buy it was still a very impressive display indeed

2020 and this is still an epic scene, all of Hogwarts making a stand against Voldemort. But sometimes wished that they showed more of the battle and how intense it could have been, take for example Percy joins Fred as he is overmatched by death eaters then BOOM or even a scene of Tonks and Lupin fighting against Bellatrix?
11 years later… I still get goosebumps in this scene. The music, acting and visuals it’s great. Remember watching this in the cinema 11 years ago this July. Mad how time flies.

I've always wondered if they fixed the school back to 100% after the war. Hogwarts is such a beautiful piece of art, it would be a shame for first years to see a castle in ruins instead of the amazing castle we see in Philosopher's Stone!

Giovanni Calabria not special. considering Dumbledore had been insisting people do that for a while and only Harry had the courage to do so while everyone else including her stayed in fear. Her calling the name when death was at the door is not special(in her words he will still try to kill you either way). An action done in a damned if you do damned in you don't momemt, while noble, is not special.

You know, I think Professor Slughorn is possibly one of my favourite characters. I mean, look at his face. He's is clearly absolutely terrified, but he doesn't hide or run away, he continues to help.

I'll be honest, I always cry at this scene. Its overwhelming seeing everyone come together to make the Last Stand for Hogwarts and to fight for their loved ones. The Statues soundtrack is so powerful.

For those of you born in the 90s, and the 2000s. There is a moment during this scene which is immensely powerful for those of us born in the 80s and before. Prof. Flickwick is played by the magnificent actor Warwick Davis who will forever be known to those of us who were children of the 70s and 80s as Willow.
That one fleeting scene where he stands alone and raises his wand to begin the incantation. It is where I lost it. At such a powerful moment and in a moment of respect not only for his character and what Dumbledore saw in him. But a beautiful tribute and memory for those of us who have been watching Warwick Davis for years.
The chills are insane. This scene is so powerful.

Sotos Davorman The origins of that spell is never explained (for all we know McGonagal couldve created it herself, the books also don't go into details about its origins) but it is not like anyone else there could pull that. That is very advanced transfiguration. You are kinda mixing things up, giving life to a quill or a spoon is very easy and basic, giving life to a bazillion (keep in mind that when they show wide shots of the war itself we see she actualy awoke way more than just those statues shown here) warrior statues that obey your voice commands and can actualy fight (as in employing tactics, formations and wielding weapons) is on an entire different level.

This scene is so powerful. The orchestra in the background underlined that perfectly. Maggie Smith portrayed the role of the old witch which is worried for her school and their students spot on. It really shows the cohesion of Hogwarts. „Man the Boundaries, Do your Duty to our school“ makes me have the chills everytime. So powerful
Definitely my favorite part of this movie. Very emotional acting, directing and scoring.
I love how the statues both land on beat with the music, and march in time with it as well, and the camera shakes as they hit the ground (and, the soundtrack for Courtyard Apocalypse is pretty much the same, except it's slower, and this scene for some reason has an almost melancholy, hopeless air of *hope* to it...yes, that makes no sense whatsoever). And Slughorn...I wonder if he was sipping a drink, or possibly some Felix Felicis, since he was the Potions Master after all. Plus, seeing that Molly took part in building the first line of defenses against Voldie & Co, a shield which appears to disintegrate human beings who touch it (that's what it looks like when the Snatchers at the Bridge first hit it, anyway), shows us that she is a DAMN powerful witch. And McGonagal's little laugh about wanting to use the spell makes her seem for just a moment like Bowlatrix, laughing gleefully at a sort of inappropriate moment....
+Stitch01 I know, but for about 98% of the books and film we've basically seen Molly casting household chore-type spells. It was great to see her casting such intensely powerful magic, aling with the Repelo inimicum and Fianto Duri spells they cast. (I just wish her duel with Bowlatrix would've been left as it was in the book....)
