    Thank you for this video. I moved into a new house and my toddler just stopped imitating words he used to and it kept me wandering why.

    My daughter who is 13 months was saying dada and mama for a few weeks and now has stopped saying them for a couple weeks.
    She has learned other words during this time but stopped saying her first 2 words.
    She says ball, bubble, baby and uh oh.
    It seems odd she doesn’t use the first words she said. She can still make those sounds but doesn’t use those words with purpose

      Hi, thanks for sharing. I am going to link my blog post that goes in-depth on language regression - toddlertalk.com/blog/my-toddler-is-not-saying-words-they-used-to I hope it is helpful and always reach out to your pediatrician or a speech therapist in your area if you have questions, I know they'd be happy to help! And in the US you can get a free evaluation with a speech therapist if you're interested through the state early intervention program - you can read more about that here - toddlertalk.com/blog/how-to-find-a-pediatric-speech-therapist-near-me

    Hi. My daughter is 2yrs 4months. She used to speak. She hasn't been able to string long sentences together but you could make sense of what she's saying. Then myself and her dad moved countries and left her with her grandma with aid of carers and nannies but she suddenly stopped talking after about a month of our absence. How do I get her to speak again

      Hi. Thank you for reaching out, I'm happy to share some resources with you.
      First, I'd recommend consulting with your daughter's doctor. Sometimes when there is a big life change children will regress in their development, and your pediatrician would be able to help you find resources in the community to support your daughter. They might recommend speech therapy or even therapy designed to support toddlers going through big changes. In my opinion, it's always best to seek advice from someone who can interact with your daughter, so they can make the best recommendations for her individually (if you have access & are able!).
      At home, I'd recommend trying some speech therapy strategies that have to do with what we do and say as adults. When we use strategies that change our behavior it doesn't add any extra pressure for children to talk, we're more just encouraging them to talk when they're ready. I'm going to link my 4 favorite strategies that you can try here:

    Thank you for the information. My daughter is a 5-and-a-half-month-old baby who has stopped saying words and started making "oom oom" sounds. Is this something to be concerned about? She was saying "pappa" and "mama" before, but now she is not saying any words.

    • @toddlertalk
      @toddlertalk  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, I know it can be concerning when you see changes in development. So my first recommendation is to speak with your pediatrician to talk about your observations and your child specifically.
      In general, I don't think about babies losing words before 12 months(ish). That's because when babies are younger they are exploring speech and language, and they aren't saying "real" words yet. Although you might hear them say "mama" or "papa," they aren't doing it on purpose just yet (so they couldn't forget how to do it). However, if your baby stops making sounds, stops babbling, doesn't seem interested in playing, stops interacting with you, so does something else that sparks a concern, then you'd definitely want to consult your doctor.
