I like his approach with challenges, nothing overcomplicated, just simplicity, efficiency and getting the most out of the material properties and having one functional part to do multiple functions. But ironically simplistic design is the most difficult to design. Degtyaryov respected his effort. Gaining knowledge through work is one the best things .

Brilliant men make thing's that last a century or more. The Browning M.2, Colt's first cartridge revolver, Kalishnakov's AK, and Stoners many revolutionary design's. Oh almost forgot Gatling!

Him and Stoner are engineers in there very own class… maybe Mauser and Browning are in that class too but to this day no one had an better small arms design then these two! many tried, many failed but all had mayor design elements of Stoner and Kalashnikov in their competition design, some even tried to combine both designs in one and still failed! I don’t think there has ever been an weapon system in Military inventory that hasn’t changed and dictated the whole small arms industry in over 70 years from its original design and continues to be in service! Except for the Browning M2 and the Gatling gun, don’t believe there is anything else still serving in there class. The MP5 will very likely join in the future but it’s still young compared to these

Stoner made AR 18 Its a mix of M 16 and AK47 but U.S. army didn't want to buy new weapon system. Unfortunately AR 18 was lost in history.

The dshk is maybe not as long serving as tge m2 but being continually used since 1938 is also impressive

No maybe about Browning being in that class. But other than that I agree 100%.
