1998: Blossom: Smart, responsible leader who is reliable in the worst situations. Bubbles: Cute, likes things majority of little girls enjoy. That still doesn’t take away any of her strength Buttercup: Tomboy who wants to be physically strong. Sometimes she’s mean, but deep down she has a soft heart for her sisters and the citizens. Overall all of them fight well and them being little girls never takes away from their strength, which is rare in a show. Craig McCracken gave little girls relatable superheroes they can look up too. 2016: Blossom: Portrays OCD as a cute quirk. Not smart, just the kind of girl in school that cares more about the color of her highlighters on the page than the actual notes. Oh and she likes a boy. Remember when Blossom liked boys? Me neither. Bubbles: Quirky meme girl that you would walk away from the moment you realize they start referencing memes more than they breathe. Awww she’s so cute but WOAH LOOK SHE CAN GET MADDDDD IF YOU TAKE AWAY HER CANDY SEE SHE HAS FIRE AND SKULLS IN HER EYES DON’T MAKE HER MAAAD OOH SO QUIRKY AND NOT ALARMING. Oh but she’s good at programing, see guys we care about inspiring little girls by throwing that in there for 2 seconds. Buttercup: Watched too many classic Simpson episodes and wants to be Bart Simpson, but lacks the same charm. Oh and she’s an asshole to everyone, no redeeming qualities. And suddenly the focus of the show for some reason (even in the OP),I guess because girls acting like guys means feminism to the writers. Forget about the smart, responsible girl, all women need to have male qualities and testosterone to even be considered a true progressive woman. Oh and she raps too. Yeah. Quirky. The 2016 staff took a show that was already revolutionary for young girls, and turned it in to a show that is so bland and forgettable while patting themselves on the back for creating a show they think is progressive. I don’t see superheroes in the 2016 version, they can’t even fight for more than one second or have interesting personalities. Who watches the Powerpuff Girls to watch them fight over a school play to kiss a boy and get their asses kicked every episode?
And the worst part is that this gives people an easy thing to point to and say "Look how progressiveness is ruining the entertainment industry!" Now, progressiveness isn't ruining the entertainment industry; shitty attempts to appeal to progressive demographics is. But it's not easy to see the distinction from the outside, and so it's an understandable mistake to make. So this kind of thing not only fails in what it's trying to do but also gives more ammo to people who are against the very thing the creators supposedly cared about.

I'm kind of shocked that they removed Miss Bellum, she was the smartest character on the whole show. That women can be intelligent, resourceful, insightful AND be attractive AND have their own running gag? Funniest part is, I think they actually did show her face in one scene, and she pretty much looks like you'd expect. She kind of reminds me of Jessica Rabbit, but with curly hair.
Ironically, she was the brains behind the mayor and did most of the work, since he’s kind of an idiot, so they’re kinda sending a worse message by removing her anyway,

Christ. The powerpuff girls was the first time I saw girls being superheroes, actual story, NOT ABOUT FRIENDSHIPS. It became so inspiring to see characters who I could relate to kick grown men in the face without loosing their child-ness. To turn the powerpuff girls into girly stereotypes with one tomboy that - face it - is really unrealistic makes me sad. I want kids today to see Blossom being clever and outsmarting villains, not cheering about glitter. I want Bubbles proving you can be kind and strong at the same time, not babbling and being literally spoon fed. I want Buttercup being the badass, showing off raw muscle in a fight and playing rough, not rapping off key. I want to see the power and the puff. The girl cannot survive alone.
When I was a kid, a lot of people scoffed at the Powerpuff girls as a "girly" show due to its name/characters. The boys watched Dexter's Lab, girls watched Powerpuff Girls. I remember when I actually sat down and watched it for the first time, and I was actually blown away by how.... COOL it was. I still remember my little brother walking into the room one day, seeing me watching it and scoffing, "You're watching POWERPUFF GIRLS?" But then he actually watched it with me, and we both actually got into it.

Fun fact: Here in Latam, PPG 2016 was a monumental failure…and it lasted less time in Cartoon Network LA. The reboot was overshadowed by Miraculous Ladybug, a French animated TV series created by Thomas Astuc. The action scenes, the beautiful landscapes of Paris, the villains (including Hawk Moth and Mayura), and the well-done references to pop culture are way better than the PPG2016 (outdated memes like No Me Gusta and the Twerking scene).
I remember everyone almost universally loving this show, girls and boys it didnt matter, the powerpuff girls were badass back in the day. I have only seen clips from the reboot and I never intend to put myself through watching a full episode. I feel such sorrow for true fans that actually thought this would be anything like the original
My dad and I used to watch The original Powerpuff girls and SpongeBob regularly. He said these two shows were the best kids shows of my generation. My room was completely powerpuff.
Max: “Why would you focus on the part of a superhero’s life when they’re not being a superhero?” Me: Well the same question applies to Teen Titans Go Maxie
i mean feel the sam rami Spiderman movie movies would not the same emotional tension, if we didn't see the characters real life, thing is that peter parker every day life is actually interesting and interweaves with his superhero life, the problem with the ppg reboot is their life is emotional bland and could be cut without losing anything, yet they 70% of their time on it.
othe guy deletedhis comment but the only way sakurai got smash bros to be well...smash bros is by putting in all those iconic characters without them it would technically be smash...sorta dragon king the fighting game actually and it would would probably be more like a normal fighting game so...it would also work without kirby
That was the one thing I didn't really agree with. I mean yeah cartoon characters have distinct voices but there's plenty of people who can get like 90% there to replicating it. Voice actors certainly aren't irreplaceable, but many shows do fumble the bag when trying to find new voices.
Yeah, I was a teenager when the show came out, so I noticed stuff like Miss Bellum only ever having her very voluptuous body shown, lol. But it was *fine*. I though it was a pretty good joke on a few levels - I mean first, the whole literally just making her a body thing, both in terms of its oddity and in terms of the focus on her curves... paired with the fact that despite not ever having her head shown, she was clearly the brains of the operation cos the Mayor was a doof. I thought it was awesome lol (and yeah I'm a chick, lol). And yeah, that's weird that they got rid of the teacher's boobs. Women have boobs. It's no big deal lol. And the new show really *does* suck. It's like these reboot people have utterly no conception of what made people love the original.
Someone else said that her full name is Sera Bellum, a very VERY subtle nod to her role in helping the utterly incapable Mayor do his job, as cerabellum is the name of the part of the brain that dictates the motor functions of the human brain.
I saw Ms.Bellum kinda like my mom. They are both naturally curvy ladies with curly hair. I never thought of her as sex object but rather someone who represented what the real world looks like. curvy ladies exist
You'd get the same result if she drank it before the song ended. Edit: Actually, I guess she did drink it before it was over. Why write the whole song then?
Damn right i loved this show, it was DBZ but with tiny girls. I remember only a few parts of a few episodes, but damn are they good ones. The best DBZ moment of PPG was when they flew into space and launched a "Cherry Bomb" energy attack a la Spirit Bomb, and the best superhero moment was when they had created a fourth, defective Power Puff that then sacrificed herself for the other three, I think.
She wasn't defective! She was beautiful! Much better than that supposed new "4th" Powerpuff Girl they introduced in the new series. Bunny's story was a tragic tale.
Wait, doesn't starfire and Raven have breasts in teen Titans go and is more violent, and it's aired more, (It's almost 100% the schedule) I feel cartoon network is full of crap.
Teen Titans Go is geared for boy, or boys and girls but mostly boys. Powerpuff Girls 2016 is geared towards girls *and we can't have violence in girl cartoons.*
The creative staff for the reboot were SJW's and at least one pedophile. Just remember where they talk about "the message were trying send right now" They cared more about pushing their crap philosophies then honouring the original or just plain making a good show! They cost CN A LOT of money! The one plus is it's unlikely any of them will work in the industry again.

if anything that's the original producers calling out how women like this are treated instead of encouraging it. by taking her out completely in the reboot it's showing the new asshats dont know this. and like how max said, only the adults saw it. the kids like me who watched it at the time only saw her as a person because she was written as a person, it wasn't until my late teens an a marathon rewatch that i noticed her rock'n bod.
unintelligent SJWs are the ones who are taking it like you just explained.

OG Windy: "Mandy Is my Sister!!!"
New Windy: "I like to Make Good Drawings For My Pet!"

Her name was literally Sara Bellum (cerebellum = motor control portion of the brain at the base of the spine), she was the brain character. What message was she sending? That women can be intelligent, resourceful, insightful AND be attractive AND have their own running gag? Funniest part is, I think they actually did show her face in one scene, and she pretty much looks like you'd expect. She kind of reminds me of Jessica Rabbit, but with curly hair.
Ironically, she was the brains behind the mayor and did most of the work, since he’s kind of an idiot, so they’re kinda sending a worse message by removing her anyway,

I saw a clip of them twerking and instantly was against the show
Why the hell did you say "lol" so much?
@@meatloafer2762 because saying lol makes your sentence look less harmful and more chill ig
Someone else said that her full name is Sera Bellum, a very VERY subtle nod to her role in helping the utterly incapable Mayor do his job, as cerabellum is the name of the part of the brain that dictates the motor functions of the human brain.
You said lol a lot and i hate that word
But I absolutely agree with you
I saw Ms.Bellum kinda like my mom. They are both naturally curvy ladies with curly hair. I never thought of her as sex object but rather someone who represented what the real world looks like. curvy ladies exist
Yep. Plus I always liked how Ms Bellum had really big hair

Can we just take a moment to admire how well he animated butter cup at 10:57
I just made it to the end where he insults people who like Star Wars... I retract my previous statement.
Professor: Drink the antidote drink it up
Bubbles: No
*Song ends*
For some reason I hear adderal
You'd get the same result if she drank it before the song ended.
Edit: Actually, I guess she did drink it before it was over. Why write the whole song then?
Damn right i loved this show, it was DBZ but with tiny girls. I remember only a few parts of a few episodes, but damn are they good ones. The best DBZ moment of PPG was when they flew into space and launched a "Cherry Bomb" energy attack a la Spirit Bomb, and the best superhero moment was when they had created a fourth, defective Power Puff that then sacrificed herself for the other three, I think.
Bunny
She wasn't defective! She was beautiful! Much better than that supposed new "4th" Powerpuff Girl they introduced in the new series. Bunny's story was a tragic tale.
@Dugunthi did you not watch it? She was make with defective part

There’s an entire episode about how sexy Raven’s legs are. I shit you not.
@@barrettfenwick8028 Honestly, Ben 10 had a better reboot than this, and that's because Cartoon Network actually made a smart decision by having some of the Man of Action staff come back to work on it!
@@MJ-zl3vo nor breasts apparently
Remember when CN had good cartoons? I know they won't get budget for re-airing old cartoons but they should make more cartoons rather than making reboots turning from cool to lame.
With the series finale of Adventure Time and Regular Show, the only reason I still watch the network on occasion is for TAWOG and Steven Universe.
Craig of the Creek is great
I still would watch it mostly for TAWOG and Craig of the Creek
Gumball is good!
CN: People want the originals back. Let's reboot it!
People: NO! THAT'S THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT WE WANT!

Oh shit he is I'm hyped bro
Yess, me too! This time I'm sure that he will bring back the authenticity that he envisioned with the girls!!

How could this receive a copyright strike? Wtf happened to fair use!?
It's because TH-cam 2018 is complete shit
Because he doesn’t any of the footage from either one of the power puff girl shows
@@tylerdestroyer91 It's covered under fair use because it's using it for criticism.
It also hurts that recently some animations of Rick and Morty that were at the same quality as the original created by Tiarawhy, just got flat out copyright striked even if they didn't show any actual footage of the original source.
Like come on , this site is just getting worse and worse everyday :\

Old cartoons: experimenting with animation and art, pushing the boundaries of what's acceptable for kids to watch
Today's cartoons: watered down, uninspiring shovel ware that's desperately trying to stay within its limits, never daring anything for fear of offense.
What about Kid Cosmic and Hilda?
Gravity falls and ducktales?
@depressed cockroach Invincible is not a kids cartoon bruh wtf
Just remembered owl house as well
What about BFDI?
7:33 to quote earlier in the video, “You know we have Superpowers, Right?”
"Ugh, we have superpowers, y'know?" Actually-
I love these longer videos where you go into the critical depth of analyzing your subject matter. I hope we can see more videos like these. They're wonderful to watch and listen to. This series is great and I hope we can see more with rich talk like this along with your appealing characters and their storylines. You're animation is equally incredible. Thank you for you're amazing work!!!
As a kid, I always saw Ms. Bellum as the smart assistant and basically the Powerpuff Girls' mom.
You think seven/eight/nine/ten year old me thought of her as the sexy lady? NO.
If we can have Superman and Batman and Wonderwoman exist, then Ms. Bellum absolutely can.
Edit: Grammar
Ms. Bellum was a strong independent woman. She kept the city in shape. She was an inspiration. She was everything I wanted to be when I grew up. Of course she was too offensive for the reboot.
Powerpuff girls Z is leagues better then PPG 2016, fight me
Ziluth dont need to
why fight?
The original is #1!
Trust me. No one will fight you over this. Even the people that have never heard of Powerpuff Girls Z, and have no idea what it is, will agree with you.
Well yeah, it was actually a decent anime and I loved that depiction of the characters. I'm still pissed it never got a proper release over here so I could buy it.
