@thrivans do you build the shower any differently when you use the Tetravan shower pan (as opposed to the custom pan used in this video)? Thanks for all your support of the DIY community. Such a huge service, we appreciate it!
I appreciate these videos. I built a 7x14 cargo trailer to camper and about to buy and start a 7x16. Your videos help my learning curve of extruded aluminum and other items. Next trailer is a 7x16 Colorado off road trailer
Jeff, I came back to this video....do you use 5mm board to slide into the 1/4" grove of the 8020? Just trying to figure out how you mated the Kerdi to the 8020.
Looks awesome! Do you guys attach the kerdi board to the aluminum extrusion before putting the aluminum extrusion into the van or do you mount the aluminum frame and then glue/ screw in the Kerdi board once it’s in the van?
Jeff, very nice as always. Have you ever considered using a hand, lay up fiberglass with gelcoat? I know it’s an overkill and probably labor-intensive. But it is definitely going to be waterproof. :-)
Looks great jeff.. im building out my 144 myself, i couldn't imagine losing so much space to a dedicated shower, as nice as it would be, i watched your flarespace video, and you didnt really cover the interior upholstery, im just curious if you guys use foam under the tweed?
@OurThrivingLife thanks for the tip, I didn't know that existed. The problem im having is installing the windows. The extra thickness of the foam is making the window super tight. They won't open/close easily without loosening the screws , I will be ordering foam backed tweed for the wall panels once I get that far, thanks
Hi Jeff, as always another excellent video. I am planning on using Kerdi Board or Hydroblock for the shower as yours. Have you considered the Kerdi board tray/pan instead of the stainless steel pan? Apréciate your opinion if it is not recommended. Is a backer plywood required for the piece that goes against the van wall. Also do you recommend installing a MAXXAIR VENT Maxxfan Dome, 6" Fan, or would it be an overkill. Thank you.
You could use the Schluter pan, but then you would have to tile or lay something over the top of it. I have used these in home construction, but I think a stainless steel pan is just simpler for a van. You don't need backer plywood as long as your "studs" are not too far apart. We don't use a backer plywood. You could put a fan in the shower, but if you wipe down the walls and leave the door open after a shower, you should be fine (depends on your climate).
A lot of thanks Jeff. As you said a stainless steel shower pan makes more sense. You mentioned that the pan is installed directly on the floor metal sheet with marine adhesive. So there is no insulation required?
Why did you put shower pan thru the floor instead of on top? My daughter is having her 2022 sprinter 170 ext cab converted in San Diego and is having a heated floor system put in. She wanted to have the shower area floor heated. With your system that could not be done. What would you suggest?
I appreciate your explaining this but I feel it would be really helpful to see it actually done. It’s all well and good to have the explanation but sometimes it’s more helpful to see the messy process (or at least part of it) in action when it comes to something like this. Thanks anyway though.
Interesting, thanks. Very thorough, but an awful lot of material to build a shower enclosure, and as a result, a lot of weight. I suspect it could be build as well, but with less weight perhaps.

Thanks for showing us how you achieve the quality of your vans. I'm grateful and look forward to you next video!
More insight on how you keep turning out great vans!!!
Your thorough guides are so much appreciated!
This is such great information. Thank you. I have been looking for an alternative to the plastic shower pan because of the cracking. 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Nice! Thanks for the shower tips. I've been looking for a demonstration just like this for a while.
Glad it was helpful!
Perfect timing. I'm starting my bathroom build this week. Thank you
You got this!
Great content!

Do you think you could use cedar plank tongue and groove over the Kerdi-board instead of the tile for the inside of the shower?
Is that the Tetravan In-Floor shower pan or something similar? The drain looks different than the Tetravan Pan. Thanks!
This is a custom shower pan that the customer had built, but we normally use the Tetravan.
It looks great. What are you screwing the I'm kerdi in to?
We glue wood blocks to the 8020 using marine adhesive, then screw into the blocks.

We put the frame into the van, attach it to the van, and then install the Kerdi board.

Haven't used that. The Kerdi Board is completely water proof and super easy to install.

We purchase the tweed with foam backing from Panther RV. You can apply the foam separately, but it’s easier to work with the foam-backed tweed.

Was this in the mwb or lwb please ?

Yes. You could do that. Just build a frame for the pan’s flanges to sit on.

It doesn't get much lighter than 1/2" foam walls and 1/4" vinyl tile.
@@thrivans I'd agree with you there....I was wondering, knowing how clumsy I am, if I could manage to trip and fall through the wall. :)
