Grateful to see the church moving forward in a positive way from this. It doesn't undo the hurt caused by these rules and language over the past 40 years, but it's an important step and sets a bright path forward. 💜
I am so thankful we are moving toward perfection. No one should be told they are of less value because of who they love, who they are, who they are becoming.
glad to #beumc this week. all weeks really, but especially today. thank you for capturing these stories and the waves of joy and grief as they flood a lot of us. I really do see God moving. It's not that He is doing new things, its that we are finally able to see it and recognize it. ❤
what a beautiful moment! thank you for uplifting these voices in a time of joy and celebration, i am more hopeful for the future of the UMC than ever before and for my place in it
For those who don't see the power of Christ here, I pray for you to see how bad the fruit of what a nonaffirming theology produces. Study the perspectives, you'll likely find places both sides seem to talk past each other or omit an argument raised by the counterview. But go actually listen to the life stories of how our fellows in Christ--many during their youth--are then fated to be either put through the trauma of groups like Exodus Intl. or a life of celibacy (which Jesus in Mt. 19:11-12 said was a gift, so not forced onto others) ... and tell me that is not bad fruit to a T when you see the lasting scars that non-affirming theology leaves on our siblings in Christ. If it is Methodism to do good, do no harm, and strive to grow then I cannot help to see this week's landmark decision as all 3.
I know without a doubt that the handful of us who left our church last year did the right thing as our church was determined not to disaffiliate, but to “wait and see what would happen” at conference. We will continue to pray for them.

Perfection? Are you serious? This “church” is doing the opposite of what it should be doing.
This has been a long time coming. It not only offers hope, but more freedom to contextually create new things.
This is fantastic! I hope this will bring healing to many people who have been hurt through words and actions brought on by others.

As a lay servant in the cal nev conference, this moment makes me proud to #beumc

THIS IS SIN AGAINST CHRIST! ☹☹
Thank God I joined the Wesleyan Church.
So glad my Methodist church disaffiliated
And more Methodist churches will disaffiliate as soon as this conference is over.
@@beatricejlopleh3040 I hope they still can.
@@beatricejlopleh3040if they cannot disaffiliate people will vote with their feet. Now I’m the one saying how can I stay United Methodist
These people are delusional.
UMC will decline more rapidly!!! It’s a huge disaster!!!
My church disaffiliated. Now that it's out there about this change, more will leave
