to avoid servo skipping because the move is too long you can limit it in inav to some 70% of the servo movement, dont know exact number of percentage, but you just reduce the default 100 in the inav servo mixer to something lower

Back when the ZMR was the drone to fly we had a server tilt camera on it with a 3D printed mount and controlled by a servo output that would keep the camera level as the drone flew. Never connected it to head tracking like this tho.

Ive thougt of this allot, and i think its a pretty big deal not underwelming at al
I mainly fly in simulator, and being able to switch between a big angle and a small angle for slow flying and hovering would mean a ton off difference
Being able to controll this with your head seems perfect, as controlling it with switches seemed to suck

JB there is an additional thing you can do with INAV while using a tilt camera. Instead of setting the servo to an RC channel, you can set it to the tilt gimbal function, that way it would behave as a stabilized gimbal (only in pitch ofc). Additionally, you can set the CAMSTAB function into the modes tab to select when the camera will automatically adjust the tilt. I'm guessing that if you combine all that with rocksteady, you can reach something close to an avata. I've been wondering how well this would work, could you perhaps make a quick video on it to show to the ppl? Thanks for the work you do for the community!

Joshua, I assume you'd want to mix in a "GIMBAL PITCH" input along with the camera pitch override from the TX so that by default if you hold your head still the camera angle will stay fixed regardless of how the quad pitches, but if you tilt your head up and down it will "add" that to the stabilized pitch input to let you look up and down? Could even put CAMSTAB on a switch to enable the stabilization in flight?

The LDX-218 Servo has a stalled current of 2.4 to 3amps. The Matek 5v regulator has a continuous load current of 1.5 Amps (Max.2.5A 5s/minute). Should we be at all worried about that?

Josh , love the video. You mention wiring directly to FC. By pass 5v. I had this setup because my thought as well was if FC crashed servo last of my problems. I just had a spiral of death I could not recover now did rth help and hopefully will find but thinking now I wonder how much pull the servo puts on FC and at 100 ft plus and high demand build with weight if that's begging for trouble to crash the FC underload. Hopefully I find but my 2nd build with the medlin I'm tearing apart to put in the 5v reg off main power. Can't afford another loss. No blame game here and maybe I took your video wrong but if you ment what I thought you ment u might want to edit this video to highly ad ise to use the 5v and not direct connect to FC to avoid this risk.

I've always tried to figure out how DJI does it with their FPV drone. They use a slim type (pancake/gimbal) motor that has a magnetic sensor and probably has a dedicated module to control it. There are only a few manufacturers who sell gimbals but it's servo based and for fixed wings.

Thank you Uncle. I have followed, as in the video. where I soldered the line wire from the Runcham DVR's H/L pin to the M5 pin. and in the servo I selected it using the video that uncle made. but because I wanted to use the arming button together with the button to record video on the mini DVR, I selected the servo, namely the RC Chanel 5 input and it was detected. However, the current problem is that the H/L button cannot record fully. Oh yes, previously I used a Radiomaster Pocket Remote and I tried input 10, namely the Play button at the bottom right of the Pocket Radiomaster Remote, but the problem remained the same, namely it couldn't record. My DVR has a blue flashing light indicating it is recording but there is no recording in the video file. are there any other settings in the servo?

Hey @bardwell... why hasn't anyone come up with a 180 degree camera "fish eye view" that has processing on the headset to generate the head tracking? We certainly have the processor power to do it, and it would be much more robust than servos. It would also be fast. You could theoretically move your head and have instant feedback like VR.
I've suggested it many times and the only drawback would be "forcing less than HD by only taking a portion of the 180 degree image... less than HD" but that doesn't sound like a very solid argument.

pls check out the packet rate:
    64 / 128-pos:
The bit depth is dependent on the selected telemetry ratio. For a telemetry ratio of 1:2 and 1:4 these channels are 6-bit/64 pos. For all other ratios, these channels are 7-bit/128 pos. The 7-bit/128 positions is 12.5% the resolution of 10-bit, and 6-bit/64 positions is 6.25% the resolution of 10-bit. This may not be enough resolution for a head tracker but definitely enough for flight modes, flaps, gear, etc.

You don't need moving parts to make a full gimbal-style view. It can all be done with software and part of a 360 camera.
