You can absolutely substitute food colouring with dye based ink refills. I forgot to mention in this video that. In my last one i had mentioned you can use them, but i chose not to as they're so much more expensive and i like to keep them for inking up my ink pads. But as long as they are dye based re inkers they will totally work!
I was lucky enough to go to a yard sale a few years ago. Got about 40 or so jars of mica powder for less than $5. I will have FUN ! Thanks so much, Sasha. Beautiful cards! 😊
Thank you. I love your DIY recipes. You do a great job teaching us how to make our own stuff for much less. I love the idea of food coloring instead of re-inkers.
Thank you so much for your kind encouraging words. I love to know if others find my tips and tricks helpful
lovely cards and technique!! 😍 I have been doing something similar, but, it's more subtle. I have put some rubbing alcohol into a spray bottle, with some mica powder, take any coloured cardstock and spray that onto the cardstock. then seal it with a spray sealer so the mica stays put. it's very pretty as well 😁
yep, that's 100% another way to do it, i have a video on making your own shimmer sprays and shimmer pens and it's quite similar to your technique. Mica powder is so much fun to play with isnt it! Love it
Sasha, I love this idea with mica powders. I also really love the embossing folders, especially the one with the circles/planets ! The sunflower card is stunning. 🌻
Thank you for all the beautiful cards & great hints. 😊👋
Wowsers those are gorgeous cards! I have pearlescent paint I color. It works, but the glue and less water in the mix is a great tip. 😊
Im pleased you enjoyed it and found the tips helpful
Sasha, I love your technic, I will try it. If I try it, I will post it in your Facebook page. When I want to relax, I just go in TH-cam and search for your tutorials because I know that you always have some great technics to share. Happy Birthday to your mother in law ❤️. Thank you for sharing your new stuffs.
I watch a lot of your videos and especially love your diy supplies, like this one. I think you are an amazing card maker and truly appreciate the time and energy you put into making your videos. Thanks so much for this great diy....Sandy
Thank you so much Sandy, you have no idea how much your words mean. Ive been feeling really discouraged lately and im struggling to keep positive. My subscribers seem to go down more than up at the moment. Since i posted this video last night im down 2 subscribers and have gained none. I just seem to be stuck going no where in my TH-cam career :( Thank you for encouraging me
This is an awesome technique. I love that sunflower embossing folder. Thanks for sharing.
I love the idea of using up our mica powders for a bit of shimmer on our cards☺️x
It's so easy and effective
I don’t comment much on videos, but WOW, everything, WOW! Love the technique, love that it is affordable and easy! And your cards are absolutely beautiful!!! Thanks for sharing! You do great videos, will definitely be sharing this! Take care!

Absolutely gorgeous cards.

Wow. Beautiful cards Sasha! Thank you soo much for sharing. Have a Blessed Day My Friend
They are all beautiful! My favorite is the sunflowers.🌻🙂❤️
Man am I so GLAD that I found your channel by accident! I searched for something else and you popped up and I just love your videos!! I already have that food coloring because you recommended in another video so that is awesome!
Oh thank you so much for your kind words. Ive been feeling so discouraged lately as i seem to lose more subscribers than gain so im starting to feel like i must suck :( Thank you for leaving me a lovely message
Oh gosh NO! I watch EVERY video that comes out and I even seek out ones I have not seen before!! I LOVE your photo paper videos went seeking photo paper from FB “market place” and I got a bunch of PVA glue given to me and I can not wait to try that technique!! I’m so sorry you are feeling discouraged! I just love your happy demeanor as well please keep up the hard work it means a lot to me!!
Beautiful cards and video ! Thank you for sharing !😊
Love this idea! The orangey/Yello streaky one is like a sunset or sunrise. 😊💗🇨🇦
They are all so unique and i love that about them
Thank you for sharing your tips. Gorgeous cards ❤
Thank you so much for watching
I have mica powders. Do I just add a craft glue and a couple of drops of water to achieve the same result. The sunflower card was my favorite.
I thought the purples were Mt favorite but then you showed the sunflowers. Wowsa! 💛😊
My mind kept thinking of more and more things to try, but time was running out
Awesome results, love the cards, my fave is the ombre blue Christmas one, thanks for sharing
Thank you so much , and yes i loved that one so much too
YAY!!! I can’t wait to try this! You are so helpful ❤
Wow these are amazing Sasha, I have a lot of mica powders, hopefully they will work the same without the food colouring
they will work, you will just have a more softened colour. If you want a deeper colour then adding food colouring or ink refill will work :)
I was thinking of using reinkers since I don’t have any food coloring around.
@@SashaReade thankyou for the advise
I love sunflowers!!
me too!
Thank you for sharing your lovely ideas!
WoW
Thank you so much
They are all awesome. Thank you for sharing
Love these cards!!!
I love pearlescent cardstock. Always buy whenever I can find a great price but this is becoming rare. I can't wait to try your technique, especially on embossing folders. Thanks so much for doing the trials then sharing the best way to use.
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch it and leave me a lovely message :)
Beautiful 💜 I have several packets of colored mica powder left over from my resin days. I use it and glue for many projects 😁
Oh that's so perfect! a little can go a long way really as well
Sasha, that was freaking amazing!!! 🤯 You have the best ideas!! 🤩 Glynis in Massachusetts
Thank you so much for your awesome words of encouragement Glynis! Im so happy you enjoyed it
Oh Sasha, I LOVE all of these cards but especially the Purple one with the script embossing. Thank you as always for your great videos. I will definitely give it a try. 😘
Love every card
These are gorgeous!!! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much
Thank you , I have gilding Polish and gilding wax maybe adding glue will help thicken them to spread . I haven’t seen mica powder over here
Beautiful 🤩🤗😍
What a fabulous idea!
Thank you so much
Thank you for so many inspiring techniques
Thank you so much for always watching them :)
Wow, such beautiful cards!! I never knew you could buy mica that way, must investigate here in the US for a source. I am thinking that maybe I could combine this with some of the pastes I have just sitting around to use them up as well!- TYVM for this inspiration and terrific demo🧑🏼🎨🌻
I didn't know Mica could be bought like that either. Sasha did mention She got it from Amazon 🙂
yes, it's so easy to get now as it's used a lot in resin making crafts! If you look for mica for resin, you will find it in bags like that :)
@@c.r.mcleod8959 Yep from amazon, just search for mica for resin and you get more bulk quantities
@@SashaReade super, Thank you all!! A new creative adventure/experiment!!👏🏻👏🏻😀🌻
Fabulous idea, Sasha!! I am actually waiting on an order from Craftstash of different colors of pearlescent card stock. But saving this video to try your idea once I start running out again. Thanks for sharing. ❤
It's a perfect little trick for when you need a specific colour or only a small amount. Hope you dont forget about it in future :)
Absolutely beautiful!! Your cards are fabulous!
Thank you so much
Wow they are stunning!
Thank you so much, i thought so too, i just love shinny!
Hello, these cards are simply beautiful....
Thank you so much
Beautiful Sasha xx
Thank you so much
Absolutely brilliant!
Thank you so much
Oooooooh, I love your DIY pearlescent card! How incredibly clever. I think it was particularly effective on the embossed card because the embossing disguises the streaks. Love the cards you made, too. ❤
Yes the embossing definitely helps, and i just love the texture it has, it seems to catch the light even more and makes it feel even shinnier :)
You amaze me with all your creativity, some of the ideas you share I would never think of doing. All your cards are beautiful. I love the merry Christmas stamp it’s really pretty. Your mother in laws birthday card came out beautifully. Thanks Sasha.
Awe thank you so much Ana, you always have such kind words for me. Thank you for hanging out with me again
I like both ways, Streaky & Dobbed on! That Mica Powder is an awesome idea! 👌🏻🩷🐨🌺

Gorgeous cards & paper-I don’t have food coloring, so going to use my dye ink refills! Why wouldn’t alcohol ink refills work? Thanks for sharing your creativity❣️
Love, love, love
Thank you
I only have one word...WOW Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to you and your family
Awe thank you so much and Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!
Awesome technique! I have a bunch of small pressboard things that I'm going to try it with.
Brilliant! have a fun time :)
What an amazing video! You’ve given so many good ideas and your cards are fabulous…your mother-in-law will be thrilled with her bday card 🥰
Yea im so late giving it to her! I forgot to take it on our weekend away. Oops

Thank you
Gorgeous! Looks like you had heaps of fun!
Thank you, and yes, far too much fun, never know when to stop
@@SashaReade For me, there's always 3am when I wake up and can't get back to sleep!! 😂
Very beautiful and informative video. Ty
Thank you so much
Stunning to say the least 💖❤
Question: once dry does the glue prevent the mica colour from transferring??
Tyfs now I know what to do with my old makeup
yep, it is such useful stuff in the craft room
Sasha, so very beautiful!! You know I love any DIY!!!! Things can get so expensive!! I really appreciate your videos!! Big hugs!!
Thank you so much Michele. Im really finding that at the moment. Things are just so expensive
Could you use reinkers? 16:53
Yep you absolutely can, i forgot to mention in this video that. In my last one i had mentioned you can use them, but i chose not to as they're so much more expensive and i like to keep them for inking up my ink pads. But as long as they are dye based re inkers they will totally work!
I love you, girl! You always give me these great ideas. Fantastic ideas and even better cards. Wish you and your loved ones the best always. Greetings from Morelia México
Thank you so much for your amazing words of encouragement! And wow Mexico, ive only been once would so love to go again. Im not very good with geography, i hope you werent effected by the recent hurricane? Keep safe, Sasha
@@SashaReade I'm glad you visited Mexico, I hope you liked it. Michoacan is on the western coast. I live in Morelia (it's a colonial city) and we're far away from the coast, so, no we're never affected by hurricanes. Thank God. I look forward to keep on learning and being inspired by your fantastic ideas and card designs. Much love, Katty.
Holy cow! Absolutely beautiful!
Ha ha thank you so much
So beautiful!
Thank you Shirley
Sasha Great technique!!!!! Where do you get your crystal gems please.
Beautiful cards x
Thank you :)
WOW, absolutely beautiful cards! Loved the idea too Sasha. TFS x
thank you so much for watching it, and for leaving me a lovely message :)
@@SashaReade 😊
Beautifull cards. Both the card bases and also the decorations.
Thank you so much for your kind words
Those sunflowers! 😍
So pretty!
Amazing!
Thank you
This is a great idea!
Question: have you tried using reinkers instead of food coloring?
Wowww thanks for sharing ❤
Thank you for watching
Thank you for sharing this technique! What is the best weight/kind of cardstock to use?
Stunning. 'Nough said xx
Thank you so much :)
WOW!
Thank you
Amazing results! Could you use alcohol ink?
Beautiful cards, Sasha, it's a great technique. I have a Jack Russell who is 1 this month and she is called Sasha (among other names when she is naughty.)
ha ha ive met more dogs with my name than people in my lifetime i think
Can you use colored mica powder
Thease are so pretty. I Wonder if you could use a gel plate to get smooth layer on.
Could work! My mind was flowing with ideas i was going for quick changes between colours and minimal having to clean things ha ha. When my brain is going i just want to go go go
These are amazing! And that enormous bag instead of an itty bitty perfect pearls jar! Did you use just a regular base weight cardstock? I like a thicker cover cardstock with a 300gsm or neenah 297gsm. Have you tried this on your beloved photo paper? Thank you for another great video!
My cardstock is 350gsm, my vellum was 110gsm, i do have thicker somewhere but couldnt find it to try out. The enormous bag was awesome value for money, less than £4 for the whole thing. I can keep going for ages
@@SashaReade i do my best living in the US to get exactly what brand you get so i know what im getting. I found the Aleenes tacky glue and 8oz was cheap! Only $2.and change but they had a 16 oz in a tub that was $16! Go figure. But the mica powder i couldnt find the same brand but it will be fine. I am still longing for koala photo paper to do your tricks on! That was the best new secret in 2023! I think you are solely responsible for their success! Did you like glossy or matte better when you made a card with those backgrounds? And did you ever try to see if stencil and paste would stay on the glossy for a mixed media look? I just adore you. Thank you for sharing your excitement with us in these great finds, and all the work that goes into it! Its greatly appreciated! Denise XX
Would your re inkers work to colour I stead of food colouring. Thanks
Of course, 100% they would work. I just find them so expensive that i dont like to use them for anything but topping up my ink pads :)
Hello, can you use ink refills for this technique. Great tutorial.
Yep you absolutely can, i forgot to mention in this video that. In my last one i had mentioned you can use them, but i chose not to as they're so much more expensive and i like to keep them for inking up my ink pads. But as long as they are dye based re inkers they will totally work!
I have a lot of unused colored pearl-ex powders....from years ago....can I just use them with tacky glue to get a similar effect?
Yep! Anything with mica in it is going to work. Those will work great, you can probably add some food colouring of the same colour to enhance the colour as well
