    • @AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin
      @AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think most people already KNOW the GTD is stupid and not really relevant. My problem with this ZR1 is EVERYONE is going nuts about it and drooling on their crispy white New Balances like it's powered by some super tech we stole from aliens.

  • @ThePshaye
    @ThePshaye 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    Just because most people can't afford a ZR1, doesn't mean it's a stupid car. A lot of people want a super car with massive capabilities and are willing to pay for it, whether they drive it hard, track it, or just cruise around is up to them. Also the C8 ZR1 is a far better package than someone just slapping a big turbo on their LS in their backyard. Reliably making 1064 horsepower with a warranty is an engineering accomplishment. It has more power than a $600,000 plus Lamborghini Revuelto, so to some buyers it does represent a good value.

    • @AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin
      @AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's not just about the people can't afford it thing, it's that everyone is making some massive deal over this thing when it's just honestly not. People have been supercharging and twin turboing DOHC Mustangs for YEARS now without issue making similar power levels. Those carry warranties. And that's WITHOUT a flat plane crank and capability to spin to 8,000RPM effortlessly.
      Don't get me started on the stupidity of Supercar stuff and how it no longer matters. They are purely just rich people jewelry at this point.

    I am just thankful manufacturers are still thinking about performance and pushing the envelope. Think about it, the Corvette is the ONLY car Chevrolet makes at this point. The Mustang is the only car Ford makes. Mopar makes no cars. No cars = little opportunity for performance/enthusiast vehicles.

Don't get me wrong, I love Corvettes and have since I was about 5 years old (1962) and have owned a C3-427, C5 FRC, ,C6Z, C7Z, but the Corvette has gotten away from "sports car for the every man" image and has really moved closer to the rarefied air of Ferrari, Lambo and McLaren. OR you could have taken the tech and experience learned and poured it into a small fun enjoyable AFFORDABLE car that actual enthusiasts would like and enjoy. And I'm not just saying this as a Pontiac nut, you can put an Oldsmobile badge on it or a Saturn badge on it, I don't care just build something fun and relevant!

    I love this video. I think it's funny that they're going to come out with a Corvette making that kind of horsepower. I agree only people that have a lot of money will be able to buy one and it is going to sit in the garage or their collection. I was just at a pretty cool car show over the weekend and now I guarantee there was well over 200 cars. I took a lot of pictures because I love cars and not one Corvette did I take a picture of because I'm not a fan of riding in a go-kart. And I agree with you you're about bringing back Pontiac or even Oldsmobile the Cutlass the 442 would be a great comeback would also be a cool ass car to bring back. What a shame Chevy won't sponsor you now because of this video it probably hurt what is in there panties

    • @AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin

      Listen GM, if you are out there, and watching my stuff, bring me somewhere, feed me lunch, and I'll happily change my tune once I've driven the car and experienced what it is. I'll also happily build LT6/LT7 powered cars if you are footing the bill! You know how to reach me!
      One of my biggest criticisms of modern cars is the "Playstationification" of modern performance, the cars are SO good, and SO smart, that someone barely capable of using a left turn signal can drive them pretty hard. The sensors and feedback and computers can compensate SO well. But it decreases the driving experience, in my opinion, the car is doing a lot of the actual DRIVING you are more piloting with assistance.
      Bring back some smaller cooler interesting nicely style attractive cars without all the assistance, bring back enthusiast cars, that enthusiast can actually AFFORD. I don't care what the brand it flies under is, but bring out a 400hp turbo real wheel drive stick shift fun car for less than $40,000 and you will sell them by the truckload. Bring back a Chevelle/442/GTO with a 400ci or 455ci LS based motor, with door sills you can put your arm out of, and make it less than $60,000 and you have another winner on your hands. I don't care if my car has parking assist, and radar, and that I can order tacos from the center console to be delivered to me.

      @MLCAPE 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Heres the problem, It's a one trick pony for people with deep pockets. JUST like the mustang LTD, which isn't any better in this case. Hypercar manufacturers have sucked for YEARS their cars aren't really all that great they're usually a lot of plastic with fancy body lines and a motor that isn't well balanced with the platform, which is the problem that this new corvette has. Because like austin says in the video, it's a platform built for cornering with a high power, high torque v8 strapped to it. Only very experienced drivers have the ability to handle that kind of power around a track. Otherwise it's only good for going fast in a straight line and bragging at your local cars and coffee. It's stupid because of it's impracticality, AND 1000+ HP is not really that new, I mean Hennesey Performance has been building built stingrays for some time that could clean this cars clock. It's all a matter of perspective. The people that this car is going to be marketed to are guys that have seen more trips around the sun than I have Movies in my lifetime. A lot of the guys in that category don't have much experience driving cars with that kinda power, and so this car is nothing but a gimmick designed by GM to dip into those old guy's wallets, and get people buying OTHER GM products to inflate their stock values.

      @@MLCAPEthe point of the car is to be great at both, doesn’t mean that every single driver needs to be capable of pushing it that hard. Even Porsches have the same issue! Not every driver needs to be able to handle all the power, I’ve driven a 911 turbo s and had the back end slip out on me, and guess what? I’m not a professional driver, so why would your point make any sense? It’s capable of what hypercars are capable of, and a really good driver can handle its full power,

      @AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin The milestone (s) is/are that anyone can buy it. I could go on and on, but I'm sure there's a limit on the word count here. All that I can say in the end is that there's more positives to this car than negatives. Hey when those cars are sitting around when the get older they might be a little cheaper if they get neglected by the old people that baught them , and I disagree there are young TH-camrs that make enough to buy one and possibly destroy it for content . If I could I would buy an older Corvette even a 3rd or 4th gen .and new balance shoes pret good and my type 2 diabetic butt has worn them for years , I'm not rich and everything I own needs something fixed . Lol I'm in my mid 50's but an old school metalhead who still owns a 1972 NovaSS that I baught in 1993 when I was a dishwasher at ponderosa. But yeah the pricing of vehicles is way out of hand and unrealistic for us normal folk .

    The days of affordable fun manual enthusiast cars are over unless you like a 4 banger turbo. The market isn't there the enthusiast car audience are a bunch of cheap skates where finding a reason to put down 50k+ on what's usually a toy is not easy, we tend to go used or make what we want unless your rich of course and want to put 150k + down for a track weapon like a 911 GT3. Pontiac should stay dead they will just end up with the same crap that is post 2012 GM seems many will be disappointed if Pontiac does return 75% of there lineup will be the same FWD based AWD 50k 4 cylinder turbo or hybrid suv's let the dead rest.

      Thanks for loving the content first off! The LT5 in the ZR1 of that Era was essentially a Lotus race motor they handed off to GM, it WAS DOHC, it kind of sort of had a variable valve setup, but most definitely wasn't flat plane crank. Some people HAVE modified them to use ones in the aftermarket but as far as I'm aware all of those came with a standard crank design. Ford has had a flat plane crank DOHC V8 for YEARS, look at the GT350. From that to this is simple, lower compression, add boost and fuel. Done. It's also a vehicle that will NEVER be driven anywhere near it's potential by 99% of the people who buy it. So it's a D measuring vehicle pure and simple. Some of us don't need to measure.

    People made fun of the Corvette when the GMC Syclone like you had out ran the Corvette. Now they build the fastest Corvette ever and you’re complaining? The 2023 Dodge Demon 170 is 1,025 horsepower and those were on Power Tour. So all the things you talked about having to spend money to make the Challenger hook and book is true. But the Corvette is a turn key car. Someone comes on Power Tour in a GT40 that’s worth $250,000-$300,000? I bet in the next 3 years one of those ZR-1’s will be on Power Tour. This is not a bad thing that GM is putting money in the development and performance vehicles. Not everyone has the skills and abilities to build a car on their own. If someone wants to spend $200,000 that’s their business. I watch all your videos and love your channels but I disagree on the hate of a Corvette. I like my New Balance Shoes they are very comfortable.

Secondly, I absolutely LOVE this comment and that your handle is "WVCorvetteMan", you sir, are awesome and I appreciate it! Also, no offense to your New Balance shoes, they ARE quite comfortable! ;)
      The Corvette vs Syclone thing is such a crazy situation and story that almost no one knows, or is interested in knowing. What's truly crazy is how hobbled it was from the factory or it would have absolutely obliterated the Corvette, but that would have been very very bad for PR.
      The Demon makes those numbers on e85, which is "cheater race gas". The Corvette does it on pump 93, but they are using the advantage of modern technology, if by modern I mean developed mostly in the last 25 years. Most of those Demons, will NEVER be driven at 100%, they are impossible to hook up on street tires. Even a Hellcat on street tires is near impossible to hook up on street tires. I'll without my judgement of that on the 'Vette until I see one in the wild but unless there's some crazy compound coming out, or these have a 345+ rear tire on them a 1000hp street car is just missile with a license plate on it.
      We'll see, I've been wrong before. Maybe I'll be wrong again.

      Thanks for the reply! I agree we are still buddies. We don’t have to Agree on everything. Another thing I thought of is 1990 a ZR-1 was $70,000. When you calculate for inflation that’s $170,000 in today’s dollars. There is a 1990 ZR-1 at a car lot by my house that has 1800 miles in it and I think they want about $37,000. Maybe I can pick up one of these models half price in the future! :) To be honest I’m just happy it’s a gasoline engine and not more of the E-Ray stuff. Just remember not all Corvette dudes are pricks.

      I like the look of the new Vette but you're absolutely right that there's no room under the hood (or is it the trunk?). Back in the day we used to say the Vette was stupid because it rode like a dump truck. The big block version was even worse. If a chick sat on the old Vette it would crack the fiberglass. Honestly, I've been looking for a good deal on a used mid-engine Vette but folks are asking crazy prices. Since this will be a collectors item (because of the 1K horsepower), most of them will end up sitting in garages. In my humble opinion, buying a car to sit in the garage for 20 years or more is stupid. If I had the money I'd buy one and drive the wheels off it. I'm working for GM now trying to get the CDK software issues resolved, and I might be able to get you a new ZR1 if you change your mind. Bowling Green is only a day's drive from your house, maybe you could do a video or two from the factory. Anything would be better than the bleached blonde bimbos that call themselves "influencers" talking about the new Vette. I can't stand chicks who don't know how to wrench getting to promote the new supercars. Hell, I think Supercar Blondie is my age. That's why she never gets close to the camera any more. Send GM an email, I'll bet they hook you up with a two day pass. Love the "get off my lawn" reference. Stay cool dude!
