  • I've been asked to test the Hex Innovate GS-911 scan tool for BMW motorcycles. I've always wanted a GS-911 and will be buying one in the future. For now, I will be thoroughly testing this unit and film a series of videos on all its functions.
    If you have any questions, please comment below this video or email me at adventurebiketroop@gmail.com so I can answer you or make a video on the topic.

    This is my 3th GS911, it's expensive but I use it on daily base and there is no more diagnostic possible without it. You could use other tools or often get the oscilloscoop with it. Modern bikes have (to much) gadgets but the main problem on reliability is emission. That brings sensors and other poor measuring systems that can fail. Mechanicly the engines are way better then 30 years ago but as I said...loads of unnecessary crap that makes it heavier and more vulnerable

      Thanks for the comment. I agree, I would not want to ride without the tool in case something conks out. On carb vehicle you can usually figure it out.

    I will probably get one of these. I was thinking of the cheaper alternative, but the old axiom "you get what you pay for" keeps coming to mind. My initial reasons for getting it would be for ABS pump actuating during brake line maintenance and for resetting the service reminder. I'm sure other things will pop up after I have one in hand. It will pay for itself after the first service.

      The ABS bleeding was my reason also, but a BMW mechanic told me there is no difference between diagnostic activation of the ABS and activation on the road. So simply change out your brake fluid, and then find a dirt road to activate the ABS for also getting the fluid in the ABS module circulated

    Thank you for your videos they’re very informative! I also like the simplicity of the air-cooled GSs compared to the LC GS1200 and GS1250s…I’m on my 3rd air-cooled 1200, an ’07 Std. My question is, where did you buy the GS911 from? Keep the videos coming.🇿🇦🏍️💪

      Thanks for the feedback, Richard. Hex asked me to test this one, but I will definitely buy it from them if I keep the GS. You can buy it here: hexdiagnostics.co.za/product-category/gs-911/ Just make sure you get the Wifi model if you want to use it on your phone. Cheers

    Lots of Gen 1 first series R1200GS/xx coming onto market now the R1250/R1300s have arrived. Looking to also buy a GS-911 as a pre-purchase tool to reveal hidden "issues" try to dismiss a minor ...

      Great idea! I scanned a buddy's 2007 1200GSA after he purchased it and we found out that his instrument cluster is from a 2003 bike, his ABS from a 2008 and the rest of the bike from 2006. Ended up being in a crash but buyer didn't disclose it. Good luck with the reach! I'm super happy with my 2006 GSA

    I would like to see how to alter the start up display and initiate sport mode on the instrument

      I'll have to borrow a newer bike, but will try to that sometime next year :) Thanks for the suggestion!

    The other down side is that knowing what the fault code is does not mean that you can fix it on the road, even if you are a good BMW mechanic. For example if the fuel pump electronic controller and the engine will not start unless you have a spare, you walk. I have had two fail on my 06 and one on my 07. I now always carry a spare and never venture too far from home, in South Africa. The premium bike BMW is unreliable. For trips I always ride my 650 Suzuki vstrom.

    I think gs911 is not worth the money. functions are limited, I tried to solve tyre pressure fault on 2022 r1250r which occurred after ecu disconnect. I’m sure everything is totally fine, just need coding, but gs911 is so basic that only thing you can do is change service intervals, units, time. I’m annoyed that i just spent 300£ for all these basic options. don’t buy it

      While the GS911 can't code anything, I like that it can read everything. You still need to physically fix the offending part/system, but the live data of all the sensors is the thing I like most about it. Funny that no-one every talks about that.

    For throttle body synchronization I would use manual calibration. Cause those gs911 will mess up you computer software.

    • @GreaseAndGravel
      @GreaseAndGravel  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      The GS-911 doesn't mess with the ECU software and is totally safe. Even when using the tool, you still manually adjust the throttle bodies by tightening the cables with the lock nuts. As far as I know, the only thing the scan tool does is calibrate the idle actuators and then lock them during TB sync.

    • @stephanthiel4358
      @stephanthiel4358 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      the Throttle synchronisation is a manual process - the service function that is related to that only locks the idle actuator motors (stepper) so they don't automatically compensate when you are actually manually calibrating...
