I am eagerly anticipating the next instalment. Gearbox end float or a loose clutch centre nut could explain a few of the symptoms. It will also be interesting to see if it's a 6-spring or 4-spring clutch. It appears very much to be a bike which was rebuilt, but not followed up by shakedown runs and correction of teething problems.
OK...now my guess...I'm leaning toward failure or misapplication of some component (or components) related to the after market electric start. Time will tell...
Oh when you mentioned an electric leg I thought ooh aftermarket mechanism ? Engine sounds ok for a change Paul ha,ha. As soon as the cover comes off I imagine there will be a mechanical tinkle, can't wait .
Could it be a bad mainshaft bearing in the trans? Once ha a 350 bsa trials that one square ball in the drive side main bearing, it was a lot of work to find it
Hi Paul love your attitude to working with your Bikes. Can I ask you the Kodak camera you now use which 1is it and can it be mounted to a helmet. I am running a 900 scrambler at the moment although I would really like a Tiger 90. Keep the vids coming. Great Stuff.
Thank You. Currently, I am using one of the Fuji cameras in the workshop, but the Kodak has trialed well on a recent ride. You will find more on the cameras I use and how I use them here: th-cam.com/play/PLNiCL5QKptFWgsEXYxmMLZCvzlHS0Kyae.html&si=pIyETIpR-lzhnPDx
Hey Paul, those tappets on that side sound a little noisy..what you recon? I always wanted the kawi version this, the "W" series. USAF serving in Japan 76-78, many on the road "oldmans bike" (papasan) my roommate had one, very cool,,,me..I had to settle for a TS250 Suzuki, mailed back in pieces still have
Noises are a machine telling you something..stop ..open and listen..Im guessing gearbox alignments and tension..slots and tension adjusters on gear box ..run it without cover observe for lash
G'day Paul, hope you find what's wrong it's a great looking machine that needs riding, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.

sparkly bits
I'm not familiar with these aftermarket starters or if they use some type of sprag clutch?
I can feel a crank end float check coming on
Sounds interesting,a bit of work needed😊
Thanks Paul.

G'day Paul, don't sound good the noise from the engine, work ahead I think, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.
Maybe the chain is so stretched its climbing a tooth or its very out of alignment .

Not going to guess, just going to wait to see what you find.
I wish I had a British fight mechanic like you nearby😂.

Hi Paul if I was the owner I would get you to rebuild it, will be an amazing bike...
I wonder if 'Franz Quetsch' is watching from Germany....
I looked up Franz Quetsch and came up with: He wrote a book entitled 'Injuries to the spine caused by an accident'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@philmuskett265 Yeah, it took a while to come up with company one.
I reckon you will end up completely stripping that motor Paul

Yes, worth stripping down and spending a bit more to do a proper job.
My bet is on electric starter clutch making these noises.
Oooh, so much idling.😬😖
It won't cause any problems.
