    You inspired me Tony
    High GPA, Low MCAT score (498) Got pressured by my peers and advisor to take the MCAT my senior year when I was going through a bunch of crap (divorce, working full time, volunteering, Independent research, and a full load of upper level Biol and Chem courses) My study time was inefficient and spent worrying about not passing, self fulfilling prophesy I guess.
    Knowing you had to take the MCAT 3 times shows that the best doctors arent the first time GO's, they're the hardest workers who learn from failure. I'm 28 and now if I want to attend medical school I'll have to wait until I'm 30 before I matriculate.
    Once again, you inspire me. When you said it didnt matter how many years it took you would eventually get into medical school I had the epiphany.
    Being a doctor is a lifestyle not a job. I dont need a job right now, I'm living my life and I'll spend decades still as a Doctor. What do I care if it means I'm one or two or three years older than I am right now to start?
    You didnt just write about or talk about overcoming the odds. You live it everyday man, its help me out of some dark places of feeling too old and untalented.

    The Fee Assistance Program only helps a little...so how would you endure four years of medical school debt and paying the rent each month? Can you help me out and tell me how it is you are paying the rent portion? That I would really like to know. Are any of your parents helping you out with the $800 or so of rent each month?

    So my University offers a 1-yr masters program of Medical Physiology and if you attain a certain GPA upon completion, you are a guaranteed an interview with the Medical College. Do need to take the MCAT tho. But is this a more sure route, than trying to retake some classes and working as an EMT meanwhile?! I had given up on the MD dream, but recently found that drive I had come into freshmen year 4-yrs ago to make it to medical school.

    Hi Dr. Webb,
    I recently subscribed to your videos as I find them very inspirational. I obtained my undergrad in 2012 as a biology major and chemistry minor. My cumulative GPA was like a 3.2. I completed a post-bac program at Texas Tech University Health Science Center in Clinical Laboratory Sciences (and my GPA was around 3.4. I passed all the courses - which were clinical based science courses - with A's and B's) and I'm now a certified Medical Laboratory Scientist through the ASCP-BOC. I have today signed up from an mcat prep through Kaplan as I work full time in a local hospital lab. Also throughout my undergrad I worked in many different fields. I would like to know if I am headed in the right path, as my goal has always been to become a doctor. I feel confident that the path I am on will benefit me in the end, but I would like your honest opinion. I'd love to have a one-on-one discussion with you, if possible. Thanks again for your inspiration.

    Do the medical schools look at your marks from your post- bachelorette program only or did they combine the marks from your post-baccalaureate and your first undergrad? Thank you in advance!

    Dr. Webb, would you be willing give your opinion on residency match after going to an osteopathic program? Do you feel there is a stigma towards DO's?

    • @antoniowebbmd
      @antoniowebbmd  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes and no. Good question. Some programs do not accept DOs, like my program in San Antonio but there are plenty other programs that do. Being a DO means you will just have to work harder when applying in addition to taking both the MD and DO boards

    • @flightkimulator9612
      @flightkimulator9612 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Antonio J. Webb, M.D. thanks for responding! I might go the DO route. I'm a late in lifer, who will be applying in a couple years with about 3.2-3.3. I'm interested in emergency medicine/internal medicine, but I'd also like to keep my options open for surgery. More and more, your profession seems really enticing, even compared to other surgery specialities.

    Hello Dr. Webb. I received my ASN, and later I received my BSN. While obtaining my BSN, I was graded on a pass- fail method which automatically gave me a 3.0 gpa. I still have 3 core sciences to take before applying for med school. My question is will the pass fail method/ low GPA hinder me from being accepted? If so, what would you recommend to increase my chances of acceptance? Also, I am currently enrolled in NP school, but my heart is definitely in medicine.

    • @antoniowebbmd
      @antoniowebbmd  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont think so. I would contact the schools you are going to apply to and check with them. Alot of medical schools are reverting to pass/fail scale so I dont know for sure but would believe that wouldnt hurt you. If your GPA is low, I would consider a post bac or graduate program (like NP) to make your more competitive

    What's considered a low GPA

    • @antoniowebbmd
      @antoniowebbmd  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      To be competitive, I would say anything below a 3.5

      If your aim is MD program: Washington State Univ accepts those with GPA 2.6. while Ponce Health Science University in Puerto Rico asks GPA 2.7. I think your GPA already reaches it.
      If your aim is Dentistry, this schools don't require a minimum GPA at all: University of Chicago, Rutgers University, West Virginia University, University of Colorado, University of Nebraska, & University of Florida.
      If your aim was Podiatric Medicine, then Barry Univ don't require a minimum GPA
      while New York College of Podiatric Medicine's 1st year subjects are all pre-clinical subjects and their policy states that if someone already had a PhD containing those pre-clinical subjects with equivalent number of credits then they'll automatically accept you as a 2nd year student in the DPM program as Advance Placement. Their pre-clinical subjects are usually available in universities offering PhD in Mollecular Biology, PhD Epidemiology, PhD Genetics, & PhD Anatomy.
      If your aim is Osteopathic Medicine then Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine also accepts crediting of their 1st year pre-clinical subjects for those who had PhD also. Although there's two clinical subject that you'll have to take in their first year once accepted: OSM Principle 1 & 2. If you want to catch up, you may later re-transfer to Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine after finishing that missed 2 clinical subjects in ATCOM since PCOM is a trimester school.
