    Makes sense you like to eat when you study. I do too and according to psychological studies it creates a mental connection with your brain and the food helping your mind commit what you are processing into long-term memory.

    just for anyone wondering: about your comment about making flashcards, I also follow other medical students and many of them rave about Anki. Anki is like an upgraded quizlet that many medical students use. It might not work for everyone but I've seen wonderful reviews and I myself love it :)

      Take frequent breaks! I recommend studying uninterrupted for 50 mins straight (and I mean absolutely no distractions) and take a 10 min break each hour. When you have so much to study in medical school and so little time, you will get it done one way or another!
      Thanks for the question!

    hi Dr. Webb! I'm a sophomore in high school and I really want to be a surgeon when I get older. what subject do you think you should be strongest in going to med school? and what is the most time consuming process during med school?

    • @antoniowebbmd
      @antoniowebbmd  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      joylyn newlin n
      No particular subject but just develop strong test taking strategies and good study habits that will be beneficial for you and your career and also lifelong. The most time-consuming part of medical school is the amount of time that you have to study, there's lots of information that you have to learn in such a short amount of time.

    Hey there thanks for your inspiring videos. I am 37 and starting to study medicine here in Germany next year. As I am pre-med now, I study about 8-10 hours a day already. I do have issues with varicose veins and the long sitting is no good for that. Any suggestions? concentration is not an issue, I am highly motivated and very effective. Thanks again for all your information and kind words

      Lea Vohn Most people start studying 1st and 2nd year of college so you can take the MCAT after your junior year and apply to medical school during your senior year but it all varies depending on how soon you want to start medical school.

      Dr. Antonio J. Webb Thanks for the advice. Also, do you recommend programs like Kaplan that help you prepare for the exam. I took a 6 week sat prep class from Kaplan and I don't think it was useful. What did you do to prepare for the MCAT?

    • @antoniowebbmd
      @antoniowebbmd  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lea Vohn I took Kaplan and Princeton. If it works for you then use them but if not, study by yourself. You just have to figure out what works best for you

    How did you go 15 hours of studying without eating? You said you love food and as a food lover myself I dont believe that that is possible.

    • @antoniowebbmd
      @antoniowebbmd  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Andre Jackson Thanks for the question! You have to build up to it and pace yourself! There is so much to learn in med school that you have to study that long. You get used to it!

      Good question! I just did LOTS and LOTS of questions! I used first aid (mostly) and then uworld qbank and that was about it.
      Here are a few of the books I used:
      USMLE First Aid: amzn.to/2zDKJQp or amzn.to/2NSVkKC
      Some people in my class used Master the Boards book, Crush USMLE, USMLE secrets
      Master the Boards, Step 2CK: amzn.to/2zCFhNP
      Crush USMLE: amzn.to/2KRW1ps
      USMLE Secrets: amzn.to/2KSIoq5 or amzn.to/2Ldl0zS

    "I can't study in libraries because they're no food around." This is actually me, haha. I feel so bad for studying in libraries because I can't stretch out how I want, and I have to have something in my mouth like every fifteen minutes. Usually I munch on apples which makes my eating in the library ten times worse because apples can be so loud. At first, I felt kind of guilty for not hurrying to the library to cram like everyone else. Now I'm kind of glad that I found out the locations and the type of studying that works best for me.
