I just never thought to look. I was always cutting each individual layer. In my defense, I rarely have layered videos in my editing. Also, thanks for pointing out the Audio Device plugin. 1 - I love you!
    2 - For folks who don't have a Stream Deck, you can still just remap all the functions you use most often (I personally set my keybinds to where my hands never have to move. Right hand stays on the mouse for EVERYTHING, left had doesn't move either)
    3 - I'm into mechanical keyboards, so I built a custom macropad (with 3 rotary encoders (read: knobs) for volume, zoom, and pan) and that served a similar purpose too!

      Hey! Thanks for all the kind words and support!
      I think Final Cut Pro works best when it's installed directly on your hard drive. Depending on the speed of an external drive though, you might be able to keep your editing libraries and project files there so they don't take up space on your computer.

    I almost did not recognize this is a Tom Buck video because it was missing the puns. I never really thought I would ever need a stream deck until seeing the other uses you get out of it here. We use one for live streams at church but it basically just replaces mouse click actions. I've got so many ideas of how I can use this in photoshop, lightroom, and Final Cut as well. I also write and edit copy every day and there are certain strings of text or hard to spell names I have to use often. I was using text expander for that, but I often forget the shortcuts I set, so I'm thinking I could utilize a streamdeck for that as well.

    Thanks Tom for an amazingly helpful video. Do you know if there is a way to add a specific effects preset (such as zoom to 130%, adjust position X and Y to a given. value, etc.) I know I can create an effects preset in FCP, but I've yet to figure out a way to map a specific effects preset to a Stream Deck key. Thanks in advance!

    Hello Tom - I'm interested in learning something else since you've always been very helpful with my questions, for example when I work on my vids on FCP and I have a section on the video where I apply my channel name and social media links along with a sound effect; how do I save that as a template for my future videos instead of having to always create it on new vids? I hope I was able to clarify my question?

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Rudy! The easiest way to do that is to make the graphic its own separate movie. You can export a ProRess 444 file form Final Cut to keep a transparent background (it'll be a big file though) and then you can add that movie wherever you need the graphics.

    Hi Tom, I'm an old Italian dude, I bought the new Elgato stream deck + and tried to customize it for Final Cut Pro. I tried to follow your video, that I really found useful in general. As usual i followed step by step what you were explaining, and I tried to repeat on may deck, but I couldn't match Final Cut with the steam deck, because there was no answer with the software and the button(?). Is there something I've missed through the steps? Or is there something more to set: the stream deck and Final Cut?

    Great video! I just got a Stream Deck XL, and have just a few FCP hotkeys set up.
    One disappointment so far, and I think it is a FCP limitation, is that I cannot hotkey apply a custom effect. I have a variety of custom video and audio effects in FCP that I use frequently, but I can't apply them with a hotkey. Anyone have a solution to that? Thanks!

      Use CommandPost to map your streamdeck. This way, you can map custom effects:)

    • @PelicanNorth
      @PelicanNorth 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kenny1463 Thanks for the tip! I'm trying CommandPost (CP), but it can't be used at the same time as the Stream Deck app. I could map everything for every app within CP, but the interface is rather clunky - no drag to rearrange, for instance. I think I would give up some great Stream Deck functionality if I did this.
      For now, I have turned off the Stream Deck connection within CP. But the CP HUD feature may be the answer I was looking for. I can hotkey that on/off with the Stream Deck (in their app). That gives me the CP HUD within FCP, and it is there I can map all my custom effects for one-button selection. I have to use my mouse to do that, but it is much faster than searching my effects.
      I'll try out this setup for a few days and see how it evolves.

I didn’t realize, that in addition to the FCP icons, I also needed to type in the key strokes. Initially, I thought key strokes were to modify, enhance, or change icon functionality.
