    This might be a nightmare idea, but it might be a cool one if it works. I might find some scrap fabric and play with the idea. Take a 3-5 tier gathered Prairie skirt, but do it in box pleats. Something like Waist measurement #/1st tier Hem Circ #, 2nd tier would them be matched and box pleated into 1, repeat for all tiers, with the hem circ flaring out slightly with each, and waist/top matching previous hem circumference. Interesting concept at the very least.

    thank you for the MOST clear, concise description of box pleats! do you have any idea of the yardage I would need for a gal about a size 6-8? Since I would be doing this without a pattern, I was just curious! thanks!

    • @SewAnastasia
      @SewAnastasia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      thank you. It depends how big you want the top of the pleat and how much underlay you want on it. On this sample it took 6 inches of fabric for every 2 inches. So if you follow this pleat size you would need 84 inches for 28 inch waist. Thank you for watching.

    Greetings, Anastasia. I plan to make a box-pleated, king-size bed skirt. The two-inch markings seem like they might result in far too many pleats. I don't want the skirt to look too busy. Do you have a recommendation for what size pleat would work well for this project? Thanks.

    • @SewAnastasia
      @SewAnastasia  29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Maybe you want to do 1 inch? or maybe every 5 inches? What ever you think looks best. I would pleat some different lengths and put it up to your bed and see what you think looks best.

    I have 3 mtr of fabric and want it all pleated, for a 21inch waist. This is an overskirt, so am gonna cover only up to 19inch, instead of the 21inch. Is it even possible to use all the fabric? Since i want it puffy?

    So for smaller box pleats- say 1/2", you would just measure 1/2" increments instead of the 2" increments, correct?

    • @SewAnastasia
      @SewAnastasia  ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah you can totally do that!

  • @cindyparcher9613
    @cindyparcher9613 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It appears that there are three layers of fabric once the box pleat is completed. If I want a skirt with a 30" waist, then I'm calculating I need 90" of fabric before pleating. This 90" of course would not include seam allowances, but just the length of fabric needed for the pleats. Am I calculating correctly?

    • @SewAnastasia
      @SewAnastasia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The same way you are going to sew it on another hem but you will need to iron the creases into it if you want the pleated look at your hem. I hope that helps. Thank you for watching.

    How do you make a dress with pleats at the bottom? Short dress, mid thigh. It's for a cosplay. I have to do the dress free hand which is fine but I'm not sure how to make a pattern for pleats. It's not something I've ever done before.

    • @SewAnastasia
      @SewAnastasia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To add pleats at the bottom it is just one long rectangle that you are pleating up and then attaching. If you do not want the top pleated then you have to have two separate pieces. One for the skirt and one for the pleats at the hem.

    How do I determine the waist size?

    • @SewAnastasia
      @SewAnastasia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on how big the pleats are that you are making along with how they are spaced out. If you where a 26 inch waist, you want to 1st figure out how many pleats you need.... so how wide are they? 2inches? 3 inches? then you know how many pleats you need.... then you need to times that number with how big your underlay is. Thats the fabric under the pleat. then you know how much fabric you need. Hope that helped. Thank you for watching.
