So you are aware, this is not the skill ceiling of the game. A bunch of pros are currently scrimming to create strategies to beat this meta. I assume its going to be some deathball strat to punish greedy camp farming which won't work for every camp but could punish hard enough on deeper camps to give the team on def enough space to farm back into the game. Not to mention skill diffs. If players still play like this in a year it will be a colossal failure of movement tech, and item builds. So while you should be watching these games for tips on how to play best right now, remember that was their best days ago. Soon to be weeks ago. Before the game goes public and gains a much larger player base for stronger competition. What I am saying is, you are fully competent enough to play at and beyond the level you are seeing now.
Love the encouragement at the end of this, yeah the wall bounce is super underutilized for rotations, not to mention the speed boost from dashing off zips. Can’t wait to see the tech, as a previous titanfall player this game has me really hyped.
@@Salmacreamyeah the strategy discussed in the video is how every decent team tries to play, and anyone can have a similar game in terms of those rotations if you have a lead. My six stacks have this same basic strategy in low-mid MMR, we just don't execute as quickly and consistently
This is how the game should be played. Games like League and Dota counter jungling and tower priority has been figured out forever. Very frustrating being in games with people from Valorant who don't understand objective priority and denying farm.
To be honest it's worth enjoying this period of time while it lasts. Right now good players can hard carry and have massive impact in their games, often I'm seeing players with like four times the amount of kills as any other team members and winning by just running from lane to lane and helping everyone. Once the game has been released for a year the playerbase will become more competent, but good players won't get to feel they have much impact in a game since you're just one sixth of the team; there wont be a huge amount of sway on a game you'll be able to have compared to the current noob fest.
I'm seeing in a game you are winning, to have 10k or 11k by the 10 minute mark. The fact none of the losing team is even close to that is telling. The lane phase is incredibly important, and if you can deny their jungle souls it adds up fast.
team comp is even more important and that one is unfortunately random in public games. You might end up with 5 squishy champions with no depush against a well rounded team with assassins and you're fucked.
While this game at alpha, you got a lot of views in 11 days of posting this video. When this game is released and you still post high quality content, you will be in a really good spot.
This is reminding me of older DOTA, where the bounty of the towers is so proportionally high when compared to hero kills/farming that you can entirely sustain your economy for a good portion of the game off of pushing. It will be interesting to see if valve takes a similar approach as they did in DOTA where tower bounty is lowered and more creeps are put on the map.
Only real ones remember when this video was called "Professional Level Early Rotations in Deadlock"... just goes to show you how important it is to rotate early
This video actually highlights my biggest issue with Deadlock. Games snowball way too hard. There isn't really a way to comeback when you are behind unless the enemy team makes multiple back to back mistakes. I encounter this way too often even in pub games, and it is frustrating to know that no matter what you do there is no way to win. I haven't played DotA, but at least in League you can make strategic moves to help you comeback from a losing game (or at least you could back in ~2018 when I played it lol).
Once league added "comeback" mechanics which basically punished you for playing well, it went to shit. Snowballing was apparently considered out of control by them back then. I don't see the difference between this and early league of legends in terms of snowballing because it's the same method of taking towers, denying their jungle, and taking control of the map. That's still how it is now except you have to play scared or you'll give the enemy tons of gold simply because you're playing well and earn a "bounty". If you die they can get a fat stack of gold for free. They also have catchup xp and a bunch of bs as well.
i feel the absolute opposite of this, ive been down 20k souls and won many times, thats one team fight, one soul urn and everyone focusing on jungles for their respawn timer. ive been down 50k souls and won. dont take fights when youre down, just defend the base and jungle till youre even again. and soul urn religiously
Have you actually played the game? this is only applicable in crazy top 0.1% matches, the game is far more balanced towards avoiding snowballing than any other MOBA. Almost every match has had an unexpected turnaround either early or later game, it's so refreshing in comparison to most snowball heavy games.
this game is actually too swingy if anything, unless your team is as coordinated as the one in the video you won't be able to optimize and deny as much farm/souls by squeezing the map as them. Enemies will still be able to farm and be within a couple team fight's range of souls to be even. Almost all my late games have had a team fight swing the soul lead even at 10k+ differences.

Lol yep. I think he should have just named it basic deadlock game loop, or basic strategy or something. New players don't know how to play, that's normal, you don't have to jerk them off saying that by playing correctly they are somehow imitating pro strats lol.
this is a good strategy with unfortunately no counterplay, i've had this happen to me in games, enemy team gets soul lead, and prevents lane and jugnle farming by constantly brawling, pretty much a guaranteed defeat, as deadlock gets older i believe this strategy will be the main way to lead the game and probably making matches a few minutes shorter
if you ask me as a abes main with tbf only a measly 87.4 hours so far, i can say that 100% focusing on popping enemy soul orbs and forcing them to have to kill them with their guns instead of melee while also only creep killing with your own melee up to the 10 minute mark while trying to keep your minions in the fight long enough to take out the guardian on your lane so you can start farming ENEMY jungles has basically been my strategy since like 30 hours in and after i started really doing this properly, shit started taking off for me and i started winning A LOT more games as you realize how strong denying economy really is. the only games i have been losing recently is when i have enemies who crush my teammates lanes and feed on them or teammates who dont farm at all ESPECIALLY when the enemies DO farm.
also the best way to farm is to assess 2 things. 1, how much survivability do you have? namely are you a tank or a dps? and 2, how much mobility do you think you have and how sure are you that you can get out of disadvantageous fights and crush advantageous fights by yourself before enemies reinforce and make the disadvantageous with dps and especially those not confident in their movement should clear YOUR SIDES jungles while you have the tanks cause shit in the enemy jungles and either take them or make problems for the enemies enough to force them to have to at least try and hunt them rather than jungle and thus denying enemy economy while ensuring you get your own economy going for all teammates cause relying on that one guy who farms all slot machines and T2 camp on the enemy side is a dangerous way to play.
also something i wanna mention about what to do when your guardians go down fast with the simple answer is to simply start farming your sides camps AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE before your enemy storms in and gets them to secure those souls before they are lost AND to waste your enemies time forcing them to have to go backwards to their own side to farm and giving you breathing room with one of the most important things to do is to get the slot machines and to get the soul earn and to have people try to sneak over to the enemy side to get their slot machines as they give some serious dough for beating the shit outta them and denying those is enough to add more preassure back that could theoretically give your side the win but that again requires people CONFIDENT in their movement, stealth, and positioning to not be caught out in a disadvantageous fight that will only get them killed giving themselves a longer respawn timer, the enemy more time to put harder pressure on lanes and camps, securing your unsecured souls, and most of all, feeding all the enemies who helped kill you.
My takeaway from this is that Deadlock early game is incredibly opressive and apparently if you play it well it can be over within 10 minutes without having something ridiculous like 10 kill advantage.
Someone who plays in high elo will tell you that mid turret are dieing forat every game. Loaing outer lane turrets means the defenders were dogshit and it was a stomp anyway. The mids will be focused to allow you to farm their jungle aggreasively denying a lot of exp.
Is there a point to leaving a single creep like they used to do in other mobas? Or does the entire camp respawn regardless of the camp being cleared or not?
I always get Very good kills and stats in the game, but i never was the best player in souls and farming, i try Farm but i always Farm in the wrong time. Any help or tip for me?
@@slamanotai I play Ivy so i can only take duels late after I'm fed on my gun and lifesteal stuff. I find it the most optimal way to play is to not engage until your build is ready, which takes about 15-18 minutes. I may jump early if my team engaged, but that's the annoying part when they engage before they even upgrade. I usually just pick whatever camps are available to me, not a specific order. And I never ignore boxes and statues.
@@Slendermaster968 I'm trying new characters (I First tried Bebop and stayed playing with him for weeks without test any other heroes) but actually i like Haze, Wraith, Shiv and Bebop/Yamato. I do everything you said, i broke the boxes to much too because the visual effect is too much satisfactory, but i Will test wait to have some fights.
@@slamanotai Melee the minions a lot. Push wave, and then start clearing jungle camps. At 10 minutes, the soul vending machines spawn as well and you can heavy melee them to get souls. You pretty much just want to be constantly looking at the map to see what you can farm next. You should see what waves are pushing to you as well as what jungle camps are up. Also at 10 minutes, everyone stops getting the full soul value from minions if there's an ally next to them. It starts splitting up the total souls between the players. So after 10 minutes, you usually don't want to farm a lane with other people close to you.
But you have to be smart about where you push, pushing a walker can actually turn your advantage against itself sometimes, and a bad fight can end up with your lead being completely destroyed. So while you have to be aggressive, if you go too far youll end up in a bad spot
I don't really agree, the issues you see in the video are more to do with the very top ranks. the majority of the playerbase is not this good, so coming back is definitely possible
Sounds like youre upset that people are getting better and you arent. Of course its gonna be tryhard. Its a moba, they generally lend themselves to competitive play. That being said, trying hard is fun, much more fun than taking fights at every opportunity and dying. That being said you can definitely come back from a disadvantage, and with weekly updates the game is far from solved.
@@fedweezy4976 My issue with tryhards is more how ragey and toxic it makes the game, and less that it makes the game harder. Losing is one thing, but having the opponent rub it in and your teammates upset at you is a really awful feeling.

I'm not a fan of how quickly this game can snowball from the early game. Earlier I felt like you could lose lane by 1-2k and easily come back making for more competitive games, but lately losing lane can almost be a death sentence, and you have teams doing things like snow balling and taking all the towers early and theres really not much you can do if you lose lane phase. I really wish valve de-incentivized this kind of gameplay, because imo having more balanced games going into mid game lead to a lot more fun balanced games.
Do you think farming is too strong or do you think it's something people just haven't gotten used to yet? I understand you don't want to turn the game into mindless deathmatching since it's a MOBA but maybe the numbers need a bit of tuning
I think deathballing (grouping early and running down obj) seems really strong in this game right now if your team is coordinated. In uncoordinated games farm is key
snowball is too insane with no comeback mechanic like league or dota has. at the very least shrine's should respawn over time and patron should recover to unweakened state so enemy team has a reason to push into base and take risk. I also think guardians should start targeting enemy heroes when they hit opponents like in dota/league, its just too crazy trying to defend your guardian right now if youre pushed in.
....I think its better to reduce the farms and instead turn it into a bounty runes or a soul cache that needs capturing. Something like oil refineries in c&c
@@mangogoose23 I despise catchup mechanics like bounties and extra xp, but I do like shrines/patron respawning over time. When I first played I was surprised this didn't exist. Honestly nothing feels worse to me than playing well and getting punished with a huge bounty on you.
This game has extreme snowballing probems that will need to be fixed immediately for the games long term health, it is breaking some of the fundamental rules of mobas and anyone above gold elo in league or dota could exploit them once they get the shooter mechanics down, by release when the community catches up this game will be extremely unfun past 5 mins for the losing team for a couple of reasons 1. Lane dominant focus - a bad matchup doesnt just lose your lane, it loses the lanes next to you as well, the speed at which you can roam to other lanes compared to the speed of the waves is stupid, if you have 3+ winning matchups its going to be GG because you can simply roam every wave, 3 man a guardian, come back to catch your wave and repeat 2. Shops and sustain - you did not mention that piggy did not return to fountain once the entire game. I want you to think about how horrible it is for game balance when you can be perma on the map, you have no mana or finite recources, your HP can be made full on camps, or with spells, or with flag minions, and you can perma fight and never give up pressure, at what point can the enemy ever make a play? You see the results of non existant tempo in this game, when there is absolutely no downtime the losing team never gets a turn to make a play, they can only ever react and hope to punish a mistake, good teams dont make macro mistakes when they are so far ahead and soon that will be true in ranked games as low down as gold If the game remains in its current state, its going to be fun for about another 6 months, it will be fun in low elo casually, but competitive play is going to be snowbally dogshit which will hurt viability of champs and make the meta extremely stale, and teams will FF past lane phase every time or wait to lose
but there will be so many changes still and maybe also many undiscovered and slept on things valve has great experience with competetive scene, so i think they will adjust properly once there is a fixated playstyle established
but you are definitely right about ressources you can uphold your push constantly maybe even just deactivating lane shops after few minutes could be a start or s courier like in dota 2 at least
Well in Smite most peeps run lowest graphics so only the essential visuals are on screen for competitive advantage. Im guessing same here, i also run highest performance lowest visual fidelity on deadlock
MMR exists and there are players at the highest caliber right now. Obviously the game will play very differently in the coming years, but top players are still top players.
That only happens when 1 team gets too far ahead. I’ve come back from bad starts on quite a few occasions and I’ve also lost to teams that had a bad start. Most matches are not so lopsided. Though it also doesn’t help that the current matchmaking system is not working the way the devs hoped and they are planning on improving it so that should also help reduce instances of lopsided games
Yeah no. This is one match, you're basically cherry picking. What really makes this so bad is the other team didn't have great picks for playing from behind. 2 characters that NEED to be ahead to do well (yamato and grey talon), only 1 form of non-ult CC (viscous 3), a fairly volatile carry (Seven). Like the only pick here that could cause problems was Pocket but since he didn't have reliable follow up in most fights there wasn't much he could do. What cost this game was bad team comp against an aggressive team.
So this is just basically a bunch of idiots abusing game mechanics as hard as possible. Right after soaking has already been patched out. The design of this game is just awful and all the FPS players just don't realise it.
I hate the soul orb mechanic so much that I already quitted the game in beta after 5 games. Its just an other frustrating shit MOBA. The map looks bland and depressing. Its crazy because in the first few games I tought this will be my main game then reality hit. I can't believe I am the only one who feels like this. Game would be amazing without this shit mechanics which u will be always behind on against kids on adderral, heavily caffeinated, talking from experience. I feel like the whole community is just blinded by the hype atm and is just very toxic in general and if u say anything bad about the game they are going full ape, especially on reddit.
Really basic video, didn't learn much from it other than stealing Jungle creeps, which really only happens when you're ahead already. If you're already familiar with MOBAs and know how important Deadlock's objectives are, this video is useless for you. This video doesn't even cover freezing lanes
Taking guardians early is also huge because it disables the shop. I try to push my lane in pubs and usually get the tower early then roam.
Take it too early while winning the lane and rotate then whoever you lane against gets free farm by the walker.

Great insight. Hadn't considered how getting more guardians may be better than pushing for walkers due to map control and more jungle options.
Getting guardians first also secures your team a flex spot, which further snowballs the fight
And don't forget denying shops, taking enemies out of the fight/lane for longer if they need to buy

Try to Still alive and dont feed the enemies, play in numerical advantage against then and if you kill 4 or 5 of then, do the mid boss

My takeaway from this is that Deadlock early game is incredibly opressive and apparently if you play it well it can be over within 10 minutes without having something ridiculous like 10 kill advantage.
Someone who plays in high elo will tell you that mid turret are dieing forat every game. Loaing outer lane turrets means the defenders were dogshit and it was a stomp anyway. The mids will be focused to allow you to farm their jungle aggreasively denying a lot of exp.
Is there a point to leaving a single creep like they used to do in other mobas? Or does the entire camp respawn regardless of the camp being cleared or not?
Yes. Leaving a creep will prevent it from respawning and mess up their timings.

I always get Very good kills and stats in the game, but i never was the best player in souls and farming, i try Farm but i always Farm in the wrong time. Any help or tip for me?
@@slamanotai I play Ivy so i can only take duels late after I'm fed on my gun and lifesteal stuff.
I find it the most optimal way to play is to not engage until your build is ready, which takes about 15-18 minutes. I may jump early if my team engaged, but that's the annoying part when they engage before they even upgrade.
I usually just pick whatever camps are available to me, not a specific order. And I never ignore boxes and statues.

@@slamanotai Melee the minions a lot. Push wave, and then start clearing jungle camps. At 10 minutes, the soul vending machines spawn as well and you can heavy melee them to get souls. You pretty much just want to be constantly looking at the map to see what you can farm next. You should see what waves are pushing to you as well as what jungle camps are up. Also at 10 minutes, everyone stops getting the full soul value from minions if there's an ally next to them. It starts splitting up the total souls between the players. So after 10 minutes, you usually don't want to farm a lane with other people close to you.
They nerfed the rotation exp gains now. This snowballing wont happen unless you get fed kills

seems like the most important thing to do once you get a lead in deadlock is to aggressively push that lead
every single game where you can apply this concept to is like that. always push your lead.
But you have to be smart about where you push, pushing a walker can actually turn your advantage against itself sometimes, and a bad fight can end up with your lead being completely destroyed. So while you have to be aggressive, if you go too far youll end up in a bad spot

I don't really agree, the issues you see in the video are more to do with the very top ranks. the majority of the playerbase is not this good, so coming back is definitely possible
Sounds like youre upset that people are getting better and you arent. Of course its gonna be tryhard. Its a moba, they generally lend themselves to competitive play. That being said, trying hard is fun, much more fun than taking fights at every opportunity and dying.
That being said you can definitely come back from a disadvantage, and with weekly updates the game is far from solved.
@@fedweezy4976 My issue with tryhards is more how ragey and toxic it makes the game, and less that it makes the game harder. Losing is one thing, but having the opponent rub it in and your teammates upset at you is a really awful feeling.

I'm not a fan of how quickly this game can snowball from the early game. Earlier I felt like you could lose lane by 1-2k and easily come back making for more competitive games, but lately losing lane can almost be a death sentence, and you have teams doing things like snow balling and taking all the towers early and theres really not much you can do if you lose lane phase. I really wish valve de-incentivized this kind of gameplay, because imo having more balanced games going into mid game lead to a lot more fun balanced games.

Do you think farming is too strong or do you think it's something people just haven't gotten used to yet? I understand you don't want to turn the game into mindless deathmatching since it's a MOBA but maybe the numbers need a bit of tuning
I think deathballing (grouping early and running down obj) seems really strong in this game right now if your team is coordinated. In uncoordinated games farm is key
snowball is too insane with no comeback mechanic like league or dota has. at the very least shrine's should respawn over time and patron should recover to unweakened state so enemy team has a reason to push into base and take risk. I also think guardians should start targeting enemy heroes when they hit opponents like in dota/league, its just too crazy trying to defend your guardian right now if youre pushed in.
....I think its better to reduce the farms and instead turn it into a bounty runes or a soul cache that needs capturing. Something like oil refineries in c&c
@@mangogoose23 I despise catchup mechanics like bounties and extra xp, but I do like shrines/patron respawning over time. When I first played I was surprised this didn't exist. Honestly nothing feels worse to me than playing well and getting punished with a huge bounty on you.
This game has extreme snowballing probems that will need to be fixed immediately for the games long term health, it is breaking some of the fundamental rules of mobas and anyone above gold elo in league or dota could exploit them once they get the shooter mechanics down, by release when the community catches up this game will be extremely unfun past 5 mins for the losing team for a couple of reasons
1. Lane dominant focus - a bad matchup doesnt just lose your lane, it loses the lanes next to you as well, the speed at which you can roam to other lanes compared to the speed of the waves is stupid, if you have 3+ winning matchups its going to be GG because you can simply roam every wave, 3 man a guardian, come back to catch your wave and repeat
2. Shops and sustain - you did not mention that piggy did not return to fountain once the entire game. I want you to think about how horrible it is for game balance when you can be perma on the map, you have no mana or finite recources, your HP can be made full on camps, or with spells, or with flag minions, and you can perma fight and never give up pressure, at what point can the enemy ever make a play? You see the results of non existant tempo in this game, when there is absolutely no downtime the losing team never gets a turn to make a play, they can only ever react and hope to punish a mistake, good teams dont make macro mistakes when they are so far ahead and soon that will be true in ranked games as low down as gold
If the game remains in its current state, its going to be fun for about another 6 months, it will be fun in low elo casually, but competitive play is going to be snowbally dogshit which will hurt viability of champs and make the meta extremely stale, and teams will FF past lane phase every time or wait to lose
but there will be so many changes still and maybe also many undiscovered and slept on things
valve has great experience with competetive scene, so i think they will adjust properly once there is a fixated playstyle established
but you are definitely right about ressources
you can uphold your push constantly
maybe even just deactivating lane shops after few minutes could be a start
or s courier like in dota 2 at least

MMR exists and there are players at the highest caliber right now. Obviously the game will play very differently in the coming years, but top players are still top players.
when the winner of a 20 minute game is decided in the first 5, the desgign of the game needs some kind of adjustment.

That only happens when 1 team gets too far ahead. I’ve come back from bad starts on quite a few occasions and I’ve also lost to teams that had a bad start. Most matches are not so lopsided. Though it also doesn’t help that the current matchmaking system is not working the way the devs hoped and they are planning on improving it so that should also help reduce instances of lopsided games
Yeah no. This is one match, you're basically cherry picking. What really makes this so bad is the other team didn't have great picks for playing from behind. 2 characters that NEED to be ahead to do well (yamato and grey talon), only 1 form of non-ult CC (viscous 3), a fairly volatile carry (Seven). Like the only pick here that could cause problems was Pocket but since he didn't have reliable follow up in most fights there wasn't much he could do.
What cost this game was bad team comp against an aggressive team.

I hate the soul orb mechanic so much that I already quitted the game in beta after 5 games. Its just an other frustrating shit MOBA. The map looks bland and depressing. Its crazy because in the first few games I tought this will be my main game then reality hit. I can't believe I am the only one who feels like this. Game would be amazing without this shit mechanics which u will be always behind on against kids on adderral, heavily caffeinated, talking from experience. I feel like the whole community is just blinded by the hype atm and is just very toxic in general and if u say anything bad about the game they are going full ape, especially on reddit.
Really basic video, didn't learn much from it other than stealing Jungle creeps, which really only happens when you're ahead already. If you're already familiar with MOBAs and know how important Deadlock's objectives are, this video is useless for you.
