- The correctional services department is carrying out a raid at the Johannesburg correctional facility this evening.
The search is aimed at rooting out the smuggling of contraband within the prison.
A viral video on social media has recently ignited a heated discussion about the living conditions and privileges afforded to prisoners in South Africa. #Newzroom405's @KatSekhotho reports from the correctional facility in Meredale.

Wardens should be searched as well before entering the premises...they are tge carriers of things that are not allowed inside

I know one inmate who insisted that they will return his phone after the raid, in 2022. After a month, it was back, with the same simcard.

No one from outside can enter prison premises without being searched ,which means prison officials are the ones smuggling those things inside prison which means strict measures Must be conducted to investigate the matter

i saw a video of tv sets, computer monitores and a play station 4. The sad thing is that, they will interogate inmates and then leave just like that. i wish to see the prison guards that are helping the inmates get those things in
