Open Borders: South Africa / Zimbabwe | Documentary

  • A new documentary film produced by AfriForum and directed by Jacques Broodryk, exposes the complete lack of border control on South Africa’s border with Zimbabwe and takes a look at the wave of crime this has caused. The documentary also shows the extreme lengths that AfriForum’s neighbourhood- and farm watch volunteers go to, to try and protect locals and their property in this border area against repeated infiltration in to the country by smugglers and poachers. Criminals on the South African side also use this open border to smuggle stolen vehicles in to Zimbabwe. In various places the border fence itself has been stolen and sold for scrap metal, this is how ridiculous the situation has become.
    Locations: Beitbridge, Musina, South africa
Go to www.openborders.co.za to support AfriForum’s volunteers in this border area.

Please don't count eff among parties. They are a bunch of misled youth including educated ones by a very bitter, not properly educated and definitely one potato in a bag of good ones, and spoil them all, and resulted to be a bad bag of potatoes. What a pity to be individual fighting against your own country (as you claim it ) Where's your pride man ? Selling your own country citizens to dogs and hyenas for what gain, drugs money, highest position from hell? Or what exactly is the price of this annoying disruption among millions of people you lied to. Where's the honor in that honorable Malema , Mampisi Nqakula, Ramaphosa, Nxesi and others . Redberets , please repent from the damage you caused SA, there's no honor and clean loyalty to what you are doing. SAns are a family of SA and they all stand together in any difficult situations and face them with unity no matter what . They don't run away from their homes no matter what, like your African friends who want easy way out. Remember captain of chaos, it's you and your foreigners against people of this land of SA. And any bloodshed of SAns will be on your shoulders and you will answer for it.
If you unstable captain of destroying people's lives, got tired of our country, you should have just leave and go back where you come from. You shouldn't have intimidated SA telling them in your stupid rallies that you brought all the rebels lawless people to do whatever you told them to do to SAns. We voted for you, giving you many chances to help this country and community, because you lied and promised good things. You captain of foreigners, you should have told your comrades in crime to learn from Swaziland people. Let Swazis teach your friends since they didn't learn anything from SAns. Anything that is going wrong in our lives and country now, malema and anc leaders will account for it.

I almost feel embarassed to be on Afriforum platform, it's something I personally never thought possible especially bearing in mind my family history.
There is more that brings us closer together with our white countryman than what divides us. I think we can no longer afford to remain divided purely based on the colour of our pigmentation. The sooner we realise this en masse the sooner we can build the country we all want.

I've never said that illegal/undocumented foreigners must be left alone.

I then did a follow-up video on why I would rather work with an illegal foreigner who adds value to my life, than a local South African who exploits and oppresses me. But in that same video I explicitly stated that they are wrong to be here and should go through the right channels.

@@godpenuel it does. It is a complex issue. As Lux eloquently stated during your conversation on Sbu's platform the fact that we are a democracy means we have to have borders and actually enforce them. How I NOW view the world is that EVERYONE is a foreigner to me unless they are willing to help me & my Penuelists to win. In that instance I don't care for any borders, except the ones around my home, businesses, other spaces & those of other people.
I don't care if a person is a (black) South African... if they are coming to steal from me or oppress me or kill me... they are a foreigner to me. I don't need IDs & passports to distinguish MY people and "OTHERS".

    Fellow South Africans
As a black man. Woke as they come. I have never ever in my life thought I would ever pay any mind to what Afriforum has to say but here I am.
I was fortunately too young to experience apartheid in a fundamental way, all I have to show are two of my uncle's who sadly died in one of the MK camps, in fact we don't exactly know whether they made it to the actual camps or something more sinister but that is a story for another day.
It's sad what is happening to our beloved country. I do however hope that the current situation will bring about maturity in our political dispensation. I hope we will eventually learn that just because one looks like you doesn't always mean that they have your best interest at heart. Just because one talks a good game doesn't always mean that they have the competence to execute the task at hand. Let the best man for the job get the job.
As a black man I have never benefitted from the purks of living in a functional first world South Africa, some of my white counterparts may have. I yearn for the day South Africa achieves and lives up to its promise. I can only hope it will be in my lifetime because from my vantage point at my most optimistic it's looking very bleak.

And eff malema chased them away. Mandela knew the position and importance of the Boers and their experience of running a country. That's why he told SA not to chase them away, but work with them and learn all the skills etc. And he said that what happened to other countries mustn't be copied by SA. SA will find its ways of doing things until it is right. That is why our government was a multi racial and multi party government. Because we had to learn lots of things and that takes years to get it right.
It was okay for anc to take over, but putting clueless people only to lead was a downfall and worse curse of corruption.

Our government did not protect white farmers from the intimidating party. He did not want to assist them during drought and other hardship they faced. As a results they couldn't produce as they used to during old government. ANC refused to acknowledge the importance of farmers until the food went sky high expensive. Many food factories were closed and our government didn't even notice or care though people on the ground were raising the matter every day. Their focus was in money gain only, and every wrongs happening beyond that, didn't matter to ANC and DA. Today white SAns BOER are very useful in the outside world while we are drowning under clueless negligent people.

It's one thing to try and erect a border wall or fence but that won't stop people getting to the border to do their illicit activity. If you erect a 50 metre wall, you've just created a market for 51 metre ladders. The true long run solution to this problem is addressing the socioeconomic issues in Zimbabwe. For too long the ANC in the name of solidarity with a sister revolutionary movement has turned a blind eye to the lack of democracy in Zimbabwe. The prior standard if living brought on purely by a corrupt illegitimate regime is the cause for this mass migration or border crossing. Once the Zanu pf military junta is addressed and out of power there will be a dramatic shift and I see a lot of Zimbabweans , many whom have failed to make a decent living in South Africa, returning to their homeland. Zimbabwe is rich in minerals like South Africa and has a far smaller population of just 14 million to manage as compared to South Africas 60 million. This problem never used to exist and it can therefore go away. The rise of Herman Mashaba is a direct consequence of the governments quiet diplomacy on Zimbabwe. There's not been a free and fair election since the year 2000 and the referendum. There's no investment because theres no fiscal and monetary policy that makes sense and there's no fiscal and monetary policy because they can't borrow money on international markets and they can't borrow because they do not have a sound record of human rights, rig elections , allow the military in democratic affairs, loot the State like a cartel and they torture and kill opposition activists and even want to ban civic society groups that simply step in where there is government failure. I fear that the conversation in this issue is very narrow sighted. But I am glad that this is being highlighted and I'm just waiting for people to realise and make the connection that the Genesis of South Africa's problems in crime is rooted in Zimbabwes illegitimate government that is fully aware of this and allows these operations to take place so they can take their cut...the Cash In transit heists are a glaring example. It's time some action and pressure was put on the root causes of these issues. Naledi Pandor should start applying pressure!

My humanity will not allow me to ignore the suffering experienced by Zimbabweans. This problem is bigger than just a disfunctional boader. We can errect the highest wall on the boarder and the problem will still persist. The people of Zimbabwe are hungry. Hunger is the driver. We need to think about permanent solutions that will alleviate hunger in Zimbabwe or be willing to document them and share the land with them. For as long as the driver which is hunger still exist, and we still resit them, the people of Zimbabwe are going to continue to cross. Some will be documented through illegal means but be traceable, some will be ghost citizens as per norm. We need to change our mentality of hogging what is in our hands and think about the whole humanity. It starts with being campassionate towards our neighbors.

Zimbabwe, once Rhodesia, was a prosperous country, the bread basket of Africa. But when people choose dictators to be their leaders then corruption, lawlessness and poverty escalates. South-Africa is going to be next. The previous SA government flourished in many fields especially the agricultural sector, we exported produce etc. to many countries. Under the new government we lost commercial farmers and some of those farms that the government turned into land reformed projects failed. As a result of corruption, numerous governing bodies collapsed also. So citizens are left on their own, no matter if you live in a wealthy neighborhood, squatter camp or on a farm, the government only takes care of their own deep pockets.

(70% of the women who give birth in the hospital's maternity ward in the town at the end (Musina) are foreign nationals, by the way.)

When we tell the government to do something about it we're labelled vigilantes and some people call us xenophobic and afrophobic... The National party had very few apartheid limbs by the end of the 1980's, but the people where indoctrinated by communist take over the word propaganda and made the ANC look like good guys. They never where for the people. It only has taken 30 years for people to start seeing it, same as all the neighbouring countries that fell in the wrong government hands. Power hungry self centred Psychopaths. Was Rhodesia not a non racial country? Apartheid is not the evil, its propaganda. The poor was uplifted all the time and it was stopped. Verwoerd said we will have a integrated country. Who is still trying to keep racial conflict? For what purpose?
