    This is MASIVELY helpful! I've been struggling with cardstock not cutting properly (I'm a new user), and ran across this page in a search. Thank you. Great advice to do test cuts! I have used the cut settings in Custom Materials to add a specific material, but never thought to use this to figure out the next higher pressure to use if needed. I do use the 'more or less' rather than 'default' when my blade might be dull and I'm trying to get more use from the blade. Also, if you think the cut is not good, you can hit the Cricut (cut) button again for more cuts until you are satisfied. Sooo much to learn about our Cricuts, but they are wonderful machines!

    • @DIYAlex
      @DIYAlex  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      G Prewett Oh yes those are important points too! You can never stop learning about these machines. I reached out to Cricut and learned that the “more” and “less” settings under custom add 2-4 points of pressure to the setting’s number just for perspective.

    so I wanted to wait till I tried your ideas, and it worked-I have been on hold for exactly a year now since I made the wrong size shirt for my niece last Christmas and need to make another one but every time I tried to cut the name with cheetah spots on the maker it was so small and intricate it torn it apart while when I first did it on the air 2 I used Washie Tape and Deep Cut Blade and worked but not on the maker so I took your idea and made another setting calling it Mandala intricate cuts set on 149 with deep cut blade which is the same setting on the air 2 and what do you know it worked. Every since i go the Maker I have had more trouble with cutting which I did not have with the air 2 so now I might be actually able to start liking the maker. And everyone is correct no one explains it as clearly as you do. So happy I found this video.

    Hi Great video. Do you think the same settings and pressure apply when cutting a script font? I am trying to cut Cricut glitter vinyl like was in your video, but 3 times no luck. More pressure etc. I will try a different setting, as you recommended, but I am wondering if it will cut well because it's one whole design as opposed to a font with cutouts etc..thanks!!!

    • @DIYAlex
      @DIYAlex  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What you're cutting won't make a difference, so that should be fine! The less/more options don't change the cut setting very much. I would suggest trying a totally different setting to see what works best for your machine.

    Hi! I have an older model cricut explore that I used to use to cut paper to make teardrop shaped earrings. I stopped using it because it was only making shallow cuts even with a new blade. Your video was helpful but did not cover my problem. I use cardstock more than any other material. My Explore does not cut with even pressure. Cuts on the left side of the mat cut more thoroughly than the center and right side. Left side cuts release cleanly, but others only cut partially through some shapes (it seems to cut the left side of a shape more deeply than the right side: example, 1" wide hexagon). Thanks for any suggestions you can offer.

    • @DIYAlex
      @DIYAlex  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can only think of 2 reasons why that would be an issue. First, your mat’s stickiness May not be even. If you’re experiencing this with every material on different mats then you should contact Cricut customer service to see if they can help.

    Hi Alex I would like to ask how to I set the cutting file with 2 difference cutting pressure in the same file. lets say I am ready to cut a sticker sheet and I place few sticker with in a box. after set the normal sticker pressure cut and at the same time I want Cricut to cut totally of the box outline. so end product will have the sheet of sticker peel off and sticker are in side the sheet?

    • @DIYAlex
      @DIYAlex  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll have to put a rectangle around your stickers that is smaller than the print then cut size. Then flatten your stickers on top of the rectangle and that should get it to cut around them.

    Hi there, I bought some Oracal 651 Permanent Vinyl but my Maker didn’t cut it well. I can’t weeded it. Is it because of the pressure that need adjustment? or is it because the 651 should be placed on the mat shiny side facing up? I have been trying to make a stencil using it screen printing on a t-shirt. Patience :) Thanks for your tutorial.

    • @DIYAlex
      @DIYAlex  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Millie! Permanent (651) vinyl should be placed with the vinyl side up. So try that and see if it weeds. If it doesn't weed after that, then adjust your pressure. You got this!

    • @DIYAlex
      @DIYAlex  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So that has to do with the nodes on the file. Nodes are basically points on a graph, and each type of node gives your Cricut instructions on which way to go when it reaches the node. Have you tried putting the file in Inkscape and using the node editor to look at it? You can delete the unnecessary nodes. Ideally you would take it down to as few as possible so your machine will cut your designs quickly.

    So I’ve been trying to cut rather small fonts on iron on vinyl, I keep having problems with letters being not fully penetrated by the blade. I changed the pressure, when I go to cut and the blade asks which pressure to use do I select default and that automatically uses the pressure that I changed to ?

    • @DIYAlex
      @DIYAlex  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Angel! You can start with default pressure, but feel free to increase it to more before moving on and trying another cut setting too. The increase is small between more, fault, and less so feel free to play around with it.

    I am on my 3rd Maker since February. Each one has had a different issue. I just started using #3 replacement yesterday and I can't get the material settings low enough to not cut thru the backing. I set up a custom material with cut pressure of 70 and used less pressure. It is still cutting all the way thru the backing. The app won't allow me to go lower than 70. I even tried changing the fine point needle to the one from my 1st machine (which was cutting vinyl ok), used less pressure with the custom material cut pressure of 70 and it still cut through. Any suggestions??

    • @DIYAlex
      @DIYAlex  ปีที่แล้ว

      Gosh that's frustrating! The only thing I can think of is maybe you havee a blade with too steep of an angle. The fine point blade (that comes with the Cricut machine) is angled at 45 degrees. If you bought a blade at Michaels with a grey cap, there's a chance that it's a 60 degree angled blade and it will cut through most everything. Are you using the blade that came with your machine, or did you buy your own blade from Michaels or somewhere else?

      It may be too thin to cut on Infusible ink. Try creating an offset that's slightly larger and see if that will cut.

    Okay, here’s a really stupid question. My wife just got a new Maker, and when cutting some lettering on vinyl, there are a few places where the blade doesn’t quite cut through to the backing. I think I’m going to try your “stars” method of doing some test cuts. Pretty straight forward, but what I don’t understand is how do you shift each star (each assigned its own color/mat) over so they don’t cut in the same location, one after another. Did that make any sense? Maybe the idea is that if the first one doesn’t cut through, the next one may finish the cut that the previous one failed at?
    Hey, fantastic videos. Thanks!

    • @DIYAlex
      @DIYAlex  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jeffrey! This question isn’t stupid at all! When you go back to the screen where you can see the mats, select “edit” and then scoot the star over more than 1 inch and you’ll be good to go! Thanks for watching!

    I have had my Cricut Maker for about 10 days. It came with the Fine Point Blade. I have been trying to do a Mandela #M185D3358. It is very intricate and the blade is not cutting through my cardstock which is 65 to 100 pound stock., I have adjusted the settings from 185 in 10 point increments to the most at 250 - with multi-cut 2x. It is still not cutting through the cardstock. Can you advise?

    • @DIYAlex
      @DIYAlex  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      First you're going to need to narrow down what weight your cardstock is. 65-100 pound cardstock is too broad to help you choose a cut setting. Then you will just need to do test cuts until you find the right setting. I use the light cardstock setting for 65 pound paper, the medium cardstock setting for 80 pound paper, and heavy cardstock for 100 pound paper. Try all of these and see which one gives you the results you want. Also consider making your mandala larger.

    Hi, I have only used my maker for cardstock so far. There aren't setting for every gsm and the last cut I did left a slight cut mark on my mat, not sure what to do. I have 160 200, 210, 240 and 250 gsm. I also have cardstock that I don't know the gsm of. The settings on the Maker are 216 or 270 gsm, I have been using the closest. Not sure what to do to make sure I don't cut into the mat.

    • @DIYAlex
      @DIYAlex  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have marks in your mat that means your pressure is too high. It might help to convert the gsm weight to the lb weight so that you can see what the other options are in the Cricut software. Otherwise you'll have to experiment with cut pressure until you're cutting through the paper but not into the mat anymore.

      I would make sure you’re using a very sticky mat. You may even want to go up in the tackiness (like use a green mat instead of a blue one). It also helps to tape the edges down carefully with painters tape.
      Between cuts punch your blade into a ball of aluminum foil to get any scraps off your blade. That causes snagging frequently as well.
