He was imprisoned for UK bail jumping - a crime in the UK and in many other jurisdictions. He also left his bail guarantors to take responsibility for his jumping bail. What a disloyal slimeball! He was then sentenced to a fifty week term of imprisonment - a punishment within the UK sentencing guidelines for bail jumping. Whilst serving his sentence, the US government applied for his extradition. The US extradition request was consistent with English law, international law and the existing US/UK extradition treaty. He MIGHT have been eligible for bail during the extradition process except that he had a criminal conviction for, er, bail jumping. So, whadya know? He didn't get bail!!
For what reason d'you say he should never have been imprisoned? Doesn't sound like you understand, fella.

As an old lady, who was born in Eastern Europe and lived in a satellite state of Russia, under its dictatorship, for 27 yrs, I can assure you that you have no idea what are you talking about and what is dictatorship. Russia didn’t have a one single day of democracy and dictator Putin is in perpetual wars since nineties, since he was only Yeltsin deputy, because he wants to be like Peter the Great, and wants all the Soviet Union back. West opened its door to him, but in his historical speech in Munich 2007, he made clear he sees expansion of democracy and NATO in Eastern Europe as a threat, which he’ll fight back and will not have any liberalism in Russia. After Georgia, he then attacked Europe via Ukraine, even though Russia signed Budapest Memorandum in 1994, proclaiming Ukraine’s independence, for which Ukraine had to give world’s third biggest nuclear stockpile. That’s for the great ally Russia is.

Assange and Wikileaks never brought anything from Putin’s presidency, no dead journalists, no dead tens of ‘accidentally’ killed people from Putin’s inner circle, no Russian Prigozhin Wagner Group in African dictatorships and Sputnik propaganda there, no atrocities from Putin’s almost 30 yrs of perpetual wars or Ukraine. On contrary, Wikileaks support him and his brutal regime. To see Russian dictatorship as an alternative to any problems Western have, is a sign of cognitive disability.

He should never have been imprisoned or even pursued, the amount of judicial overreach by the US govt in this case is truly astounding.
    1. he was not in the US when the docs (taken by their own employee who was given access to materials above his clearance level) were taken and given to him
    2. He is not a US Citizen
    3. The US laws regarding secret/top secret etc. materials do not apply in jurisdictions outside the US.
As such he was outside the US's ability to hold him accountable, yet they still tried multiple times.
Absolutely appalling, China & Russia have both been holding this up as an example of US hypocrisy for over a decade and the US government officials didn't even realise this until the Aussie delegation told them a few months back.
TBH the rest of the world see's the US as a bully (more so when Trump was in power) and a bit of a joke as to how myopic their vision is. This case has proven it, and the debate the other night hammered it home. A serial liar vs some guy who can barely string a sentence together.
