General Summary: This video walks a hobbyist through the steps of creating a wood ship model step by step. It is designed for those who have never built a wood model ship before
As a modeler views these videos, they will note several versions of the model ship being built. This is a very easy model ship to build, and can be configured/modified in a myriad of ways to suit the modelers taste. It is possible to end up with very different looking models based upon the woods/colors/ornamentation chosen throughout the build.
Bio: I started my "career" of crafting around 1st grade, when I made a funny car out of a cardboard toothpaste container with wheels also made from cardboard. I then "graduated" to cardboard versions of x-wings, tie-fighters and sandcrawlers. The crafting bug bit me early!

    Fragment Summary:
Each model ship can have a different “shape’. You can also experiment with different thicknesses of wood. The following photos show examples using 1/16” thick basswood. In addition to the sides, a bottom piece will now be installed as well. Again, experiment a bit with this piece. When you have shapes which please you, prepaint them, and then glue into place on your model ship.

What is the name and maker of the 2 kits you recommend for new builders?

Hi Grumble, I'd recommend the USS Syren which was designed by Chuck Passaro and sold by Model Shipways (in the US). I've changed my mind about the other recommendation, and would instead recommend the HMS Alert, designed by Chris Watton, and sold by his own company, Vanguard Models (in the UK)

I do have a question of my own, if you see this follow-up. If I created a kit from the model in these videos, would you have an interest, or would your interest lay more with the standard European designs. I've never been able to decide whether or not to put this kit into serious production.
