    The wood putty actually made the clean new looking wood look older and gave it character. Great idea.

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  ปีที่แล้ว

      This is an oil-based putty - that's why it added juiciness to the wood...

    Because the gun ports are such a prominent feature of the hull they have to be spot on. One of the things that I sit here in awe is how you over come obstacles, you just make it look so easy. Bravo Zulu.

    That wood putty idea is brilliant, but sadly that brand not available in U.K. does anyone have a suggestion for a U.K. sourced equivalent?

      You can use any fine-grained putty for wood (black or other colors). I bought the cheapest that was in the nearest store (although this jar is not so cheap)))

    The dark wood putty idea is genius. It's the same concept we use in plastic modeling to create panel lines but with wood. I'm learning a lot from you before I tackle my first wooden ship, the Polaris by Occre. It's on the way!

    This black putty also perfectly simulates the planks caulking, IMO.
    I also wanted to ask: were you ever interested in other kinds of modeling, like plastic, or metal models, or other, then a sail ship models?

    Olha, so the dark wood filler after being scraped from the "outer" surfaces simulates the caulking/corking between the planks. If I hadn't been watching the "Tally Ho" being rebuilt, I wouldn't have known what caulking was! Nice touch! ;)

    I am in awe of your work, it is truly inspiring. I read about you in the April issue of Model Boats and am very pleased to find your channel. I made a comment on your unboxing video, part of which I will repeat here. I don't know if you have made the gun carriages yet, but I would advise against using the ones provided in the kit. You may well already be aware of this, but they are completely inappropriate for the time period of the kit. In the 15th century gun carriages had no wheels because the guns were not allowed to recoil. They were mounted on wooden beds and firmly lashed to the bulwark. I didn't see the gun tubes (didn't have time to watch the whole video) but they should be breech loading. This is no criticism of your work but rather of the kit itself. Your skills are outstanding!

      @OlhaBatchvarov  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!
      I'm glad you found my channel!
      Yes, I completely agree with you that guns and carriages are not from this era - everything is even much simpler. The manufacturer has completed the kit with what was available, as they do not have the equipment to make them historically correct...

    Watching the previous video with you nailing the deck I was going to ask about the planks on the side as I don't recall seeing anyone put nail holes in them. Glad to see that question answered in this video.
    Also easy to forget how big this model is with all the close in shots. But then you hold it to put in the rig and I'm reminded it's actually quite large.

      @OlhaBatchvarov  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am glad you liked it!
      Just in case:
      If you are going to use a wood putty - you should scrape the hull instead of sanding.
      Wood Filler vs Wood Putty:
      Wood filler is usually water-based, whereas wood putty is most often oil-based. Wood filler can be sanded and is typically used for unfinished wood, whereas wood putty cannot be sanded and is ideal for finished wood.
