Although I haven't played in awhile, SQUAD still offers LOUD and authentic firefights that you really can't find anywhere else but private-server Arma milsim. I just feel like despite recent overhauls its age is beginning to show quite a bit and the "new" gunplay can be frustrating to deal with at times. I've never had a good game on global escalation. The mod is great, but it attracts the worts people in Squad. No SLs, or dead silent squads. Every single time in the 5 or so games I played.
i remember one day i was playing galactic contention like 2 years ago we had the whole team by a unbuilt hab and a guy was like "what are the odds we can get this built in one big ass scoop" we didnt but this quote lives rent free in my head anytime i team build a hab

I would love to play more, but I'm not comfortable using a mic in my current living situation and trying to get anywhere on the map is a nightmare. The game offers borderline no solo playability and having to request permission to drive even the most basic vehicle makes it daunting to try and pick up & play because once your team leaves spawn, anyone leftover is basically stranded.
I still play Squad all the time. I love playing vehicles with a friend of mine, it really probvides a great environment to play armour in a context dominated by infantry.
9 out of 10 times I end up playing global escalation mod in squad. Also adds enemy proximity chat which is fun and when I see the server list I see A lot of other servers also running GE.
I love how the irregular forces, i.e. Russians, Serbian, Bosnian, Czech whatever....are wearing Adidas tracks suits. The ideal outfit that is the most culturally appropriate and realistic. If they had giant St. Christopher or BMW medallion necklaces, that would be perfect

Can someone tell the devs that when you get tunnel vision due to adrenaline the center of your vision doesn't go blurry? It'd be way better off if only the peripherals of the screen went blurry when getting suppressed. That would actually be closer to the feeling oof tunnel vision.
Apparently Global Escalation has modified settings that tone back the Infantry overhaul stuff. Been playing it myself more and i find the gun play more manageable or at least im not blaming the controls for losing the gunfight or my characters 5 seconds of max stamina
I am in a similar boat when it comes to squad. I love playing squad but can only bring myself to play when I have friends. The suppresion and stability are great concepts and mechanics created for project realism but when added to squad they needed to be set at a 4/10 and the devs set them an 11/10 and subsequently killed the fun I got from the game itself.
I got Squad few years back. Kept getting kicked by SLs 'cause of being new. Can't play as a solo tag-a-long so I got no time to sit in a que to be kicked.
In the future if by some miracle I'm developing a game with Picture in Picture scopes, I'd definitely include some sort of rule to cull foliage within like a foot or so of the scope camera just to allow some more of the realistic "peaking through grass" kind of sniper gameplay.
Or like, "fade out" grass and foliage some way when you're inside it and aiming. In real life I can just push grass out of the way real quick with my barrel or hand when I'm shooting, there has to be some concession in games.
Yo Drew, as someone who spent 28 years doing it wrong, Tik tok taught me the coolest way to tie your shoes and it legit changed my life lol. Trying to describe how to do it is difficult, but trust me, you should youtube "fastest way to tie your shoes". There are a million videos of the technique, and it's worth learning. It literally takes like a second once you get it, and it's waaaay easier than whatever BS you're doing lol. I always felt like an idiot tying my shoes and now I don't. Game changer! haha

Ironically, Ive played five minutes of squad, fired one shot, got one headshot, then my steamdeck crashed and I realized it couldn't run it lol. One day I might have enough money for a PC :D
IRL it's not the bad idea, if the tank crew didn't spot you, and you will destroy canon/coaxial mg sights and commander's periscope... shame, that games don't allow this.

So I’m an old millennial who played the Desert Combat mod for BF2 as a super early adopter , then was early on with Project Reality with the Tactical Gamers forums guys….for many hours. Lots of pre-steam stuff. I’ve tried to get back into squad… my work and family schedule as an adult just didn’t let me get into the rhythm of constant gameplay changes and so many servers finding a home with adults who who were chill team playing types was hard. I originally got into the game mode with the same early devs because I loved playing without the CS or COD or standard BF crowd screaming racist children crowd…I feel like I can’t get enough hours in to adapt to the gameplay changes or find a crew like I found in the old custom insurgency servers. (I know Insurgency is a much less complex game) It feels like PR was the peak of the game-mode with having to toggle through a thousand keybinds to learn ARMA. The irony now being that I can afford any gaming rig I want, but having to adjust to changes and being a less than effective squad member after being off for over a week or more when I travel, even if I’m communicating effectively with a cool squad, if I’m willing to find them who is willing to give me tips… I guess the constant churn of the squad community and drama with dev changes is detrimental to people like me that would like to be able to play as a team player and to play their best with limited time, is a thing of the past.
I wish squad had more immersive maps. the maps feel too clean and empty. nothing inside the buildings to make it look like people are supposed to live there. they should take a note from other games with actual environment design with more than just empty walls

I haven't been able to play Squad since ICO. Every time I get into battle and there are explosions around, game crashes and shows an error. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, check game files and everything. My setup is Rtx4060, I7 12th gen, Ran32. I have no idea why the game crashes only when theres a battle.
I want to buy the game for months now i'm not a cod guy i like battlefield type more and squad or arma look more slow and strategic in a way bigger scale i always wanted to try it The experience and moments drewski shows us with other players it's nothing i could get from battlefield

Have you checked out the global escalation mod? The suppression is lowered as well as adding some new factions and guns to the game

you have to run dx11 its a problem with 40 series gpu's change to dx11 and it should fix

It’s so hard to find good squads in hell let loose/ squad. I rarely play anymore
