      He probably lacks pressure and flow from the compressor in conjunction with too small grit sand. That's why it's so ineffective.

    For future reference, when putting on teflon tape on fittings you want to go in the direction of the threads or direction or the way you’ll tighten it. This insures that the tape will not try to unwind and cause a bad seal. Teflon tape is reasonably priced also, so don’t be afraid to wrap it 3-4 revolutions. Just a friendly tip, I know it’s a rather older video but I thought it could help someone…

  • @thomasbarrett3175

    I wouldn't be concerned with the teflon tape being installed backwards. Between that Tonka sandblasted and peewee air compressor a leak would be the least of my worries. Rim would of been cleaner if you threw that cheap gun and air compressor in the trash and threw a couple handfuls of sand at the rims.

    I think you did a great job of explaining the tool but I would like to know more about what angle you are holding it and why as well as what the feel of the aluminum should be if you use the sandblasted correctly. I am planning on sandblasting a set of aluminum alloy rims and wanted to learn how and what exactly the goal is with the sandblaster. Overall great video thank you!

    • @asakayosapro
      @asakayosapro 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This type of sandblaster is inefficient for this sort of job, not to mention the compressor is weaksauce in terms of CFM.
      Angle wise, this is a gravity fed gun, so ideally it is used on the workpiece at any angle between 0 and 90, with an ideal range of 30-60 degrees, with the occasional angle change to allow for the blasting media to move in the container and feed into the gun.
      Angle of impact is also one thing to consider. Perpendicular /90 degrees gets maximum abrasion with a risk of pitting, whereas slanted impact tends towards a smoother surface, or just less pitting.
      Overall, this type of sandblaster is best used inside a huge containment box with negative ventilation /vacuum sucking the dust that inevitably comes out of this process, plus preserving the blasting media /sand, which appears to be aluminum oxide; the blasting media is reusable up to 20+ cycles, maybe more but with diminishing returns / effectiveness.
      For this sort of job, I would use a siphon fed blasting gun, and preferably in a proper sandblasting cabinet with long airtight blasting gloves built in, and a hopper funnel below it to recirculate and reuse the blasted media; bar that, the aforementioned cardboard box, and as airtight as reasonably achievable with vacuum suction and a filtered intake vent for fresh air. And a full body dust suit plus long rubber gloves sealed with tape at the sleeves, because this dust is highly abrasive, and thus quite the skin irritating powdery sand.
      I am already in the process of building me a proper blasting cabinet, an upgrade to this plastic storage tub that has been extensively modified for sandblasting, Long rubber gloves hoseclamped to sealed pipe flanges large enough for arm insertion each, air inlet, vacuum port with baffle, and an 'intake' consisting of a single blue shop tissue taped around a grid hole, to keep dust from escaping the tub; in addition, there's a glass panel taped to cover the cutout on the lid, and coated with food service shrink wrap on the sand side - absolutely necessary because the sand can actually etch the glass into opaqueness.
      As for air power, it's two compressor units running independently at 4 CFM each, plus a buffer tank, and all connected with 3/8" hose totaling a tank capacity of 12-15 gallons; all fed to the gun through two water separator units, and with a pressure regulator mounted right on the blasting tub on 2 x 4 wooden frame.
      Its as mcguyver makeshift as it gets, but it works well, with the added benefit of not having sand all over one's arms; the only downside is having to manually collect, filter and refill the blasting media in the tub once the media reservoir gets siphoned empty.

    I purchased this gun from Canadian Tire also. When I first filled the hopper with the blast media it started to fall out of the nozzle when the gun was pointed down. At first I thought this was a defect but as I watched other videos I've noticed the same thing happening. So here's the point. If you are blast anything that requires you to hover over the material being blasted then the blast media will fall out without squeezing the trigger. You end up wasting a lot of blast media and even when you activate the gun in that position you end up using up even more blast media. In my opinion this tool is junk and I was very disappointed in the purchase. Perhaps someone else may end up having better luck than I have had.

    • @TexMex421

      @@mohammedalhosni6754 Sand particles are going to be much bigger. You can certainly use it, but you are likely to damage anything with a fine surface. Sand is more appropriate for rust removal of iron parts.
