      It's coming down to the fact that JP publishers don't want to have a Netflix of NES and SNES games, for some reason. Capcom did some early support, but now it's Edia (the owners of Telenet's library) and Natsume mainly. It'd be great if SquareEnix and Konami would agree to have games on there.

    When Nintendo cares more about "What can we get the license to cheaply?" than "What's actually good that will encourage people to actually want to pay money for this online service?"
    And yeah, I realize that major publishers such as Capcom and Square Enix won't put most of their games on there because they'd rather sell game compilations, but still.

    • @Ginormousaurus
      @Ginormousaurus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The latest announcement for Nintendo Switch Online is a mixed bag. One thing that is noteworthy about all four games is that they were never released for Virtual Console . Fire 'n Ice is a well-reviewed game that's become expensive for retro game collectors. Loose cartridges sell for over $100. Psycho Dream was only released in Japan until now. Prehistorik Man looks okay. Doomsday Warrior, however, seems woefully generic.
      I'm surprised that there are still several titles published by Nintendo that were released for Virtual Console but aren't available on the Switch yet: Golf, Urban Champion, Pinball, Mach Rider, Donkey Kong Jr. Math, Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics II, NES Play Action Football, EarthBound Beginnings, EarthBound, and Super Mario RPG.

    • @otaking3582
      @otaking3582 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Ginormousaurus ¾ of this month's games are ones that most people have never heard of regardless of their quality, and the only reason people have heard of Psycho Dream is because of this channel.
      As for the rest of Nintendo's first-party games, I'm guessing they're trying to spread their releases as thin as possible up till the Switch's eventual death in an effort to get people to keep paying for their crappy online service. Besides, almost all the ones you mentioned have alternate reasons for not getting released:
      - *Golf:* was originally included in the system's BIOS and accessed by doing Satoru Iwata's signature hand motion with the Joycons on his birthday (as it was the first game he ever worked on), but then for some reason, they removed it in a system update. I'm guessing that Golf's exclusion is tied to the reason for its removal.
      *Urban Champion:* extremely dated and doesn't even have any historical significance to justify its bad gameplay
      *Donkey Kong Jr Math:* is an edutainment game, which carries a certain stigma to it
      *NES Play Action Football:* kinda redundant when Tecmo Bowl is already included, which is considered by many to be the definitive 8-bit American football game
      *Super Mario RPG:* needs approval from Square Enix to rerelease it (which is odd, because SE hasn't had a problem with rereleasing it before, they were okay with Breath of Fire being added, and unlike Kingdom Hearts, it's not like SE has done anything with Geno or the rest of the characters outside of that game and Smash Bros, so it's not like it would be a conflict of interest)

    • @matane2465
      @matane2465 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Ginormousaurus right, Star Tropics is on there so where's Star Tropics 2? Ninja Gaiden is on there so where's Ninja Gaiden 2 & 3?

    • @Ginormousaurus
      @Ginormousaurus 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@matane2465 I have mixed feelings about Nintendo Switch Online. It's missing some notable NES and SNES games. The lack of instructions for playing games is a problem. I wish it was updated more often. I wish it also included N64, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance games. Maybe even Virtual Boy games if they could have gotten them to work with Labo VR.
      On the other hand, the subscription service allows me to try games I wouldn't have paid $5 or $8 for on Virtual Console. Nintendo Switch Online has games that were never released for Virtual Console or never released before in North America. Having a rewind feature, online multiplayer, and more than one save slot for games are things that Virtual Console never had.
      For the time being, I'm glad there's still Virtual Console games available for sale on my Wii U and 3DS and that I downloaded a lot of Wii-exclusive Virtual Console games before the Wii Shop Channel closed.

    I played a pretty darn good game a couple of days back that I have never seen anyone talk about in any of those 'Top 10 NES Games' or even any of those 'Obscure 8 Bit Classics' lists either: It's for the NES and it's called Vice: Project Doom, and I highly recommend it. It has the between-level presentation of the likes of Ninja Gaiden, and the game itself kinda reminds me of Mega Man, although probably not as hard, and it's one of those games where it's not the same genre every level.
    Now someone is gonna come by and say all about how Vice: Project Doom is one of the best know, best known NES classics of all time and how they can't understand how someone can sail through life as a gaming so-called 'fan' and never have come across it before, or heard about it from anyone else.
    Go ahead, let's get it over with...

    There's a list of games I would like to see on Switch NES and Super Nintendo. All the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games, Double Dribble, and Jackal. I would like to see some Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games on Switch, and of course Nintendo 64 games.

    I had this game as a kid. I remember I picked it up because the full screen move seemed cool. I was so naive.

    Grimrock and Nuform are by far the coolest and the stat upgrade is such a cool idea.
    It’s to bad though

    The music sounds like menu music for something like some perfectly okay platform that you would never rent.

    I think you should review Battle K Road on arcade someday. It's a pretty unique fighting game.

    Prehistorik Man is plenty good! I enjoyed it quite a bit on the Game Boy Advance, where the soundtrack was rewritten and now hits a little harder. Of course, since it's a Titus game I may be grading on a curve. It's way better than practically anything else they released.

    I think I have saw Daisy and Grimrock somewhere else. Is it just my impression or they are really in another game as well?

    Having a heavy metal themed character named Amon is almost certainly a King Diamond reference.
