I had flashbacks to when I used to make my living doing that. My daughters were small and the world seemed pretty simple then. I went on to have a different career as an airline pilot but now that I'm retired, I find myself going back to days of wrenching old trucks again. Great video!

Did this job from leaving school at just turned 15 until retirement at 65 = 50 years and loved it, very hard work by today’s standards, had to sometimes stand in for drivers but could not wait to get back to the garage and on the tools, you name it and we did it no reconditioned units then we had to fix it and that for me was the best times, I don’t think many people outside the trade understands what a tuff job it is even today, it takes a special kind of worker to go to a dead 44 ton truck on the motorway and get it on its way using only the contents of his tool box. Love to see you doing the job, it takes me back.

I want to switch from the medical field to become a diesel mechanic, or some type of advance mechanical profession, this was awesome , first video I seen this far, the ending is what I want the most. The medical field is awesome but it’s so time consuming and with all the things happening right now, their is just a lot of stress and what not. No balance between family and work, just work work, and see the family for a bit before having to go back in the trenches, need to switch professions.

I feel like there'd be a lot of satisfaction in being a mechanic, you know.... that feeling of accomplishment when your repair is done and runs properly? But I guess like anything you do all day every day, after a while it just becomes another set of widgets to snap together. I couldn't do this guy's job ....bad knees. All that squatting would kill me.

5:32 The shops I worked at, the sockets used to turn the wheel nuts here were always "shop tools" and are made for ratchets only, no impacts, but somebody always decided they were special and impacted them till the ratchet socket hole was rounded out and then would never take responsibility for it. Me and one other mechanic decided to buy our own set of them. They are not cheap. This was back in the 80's.

What was the name of that tire cart he used to pull the wheels and the drum off when he was changing the wheel seal?

My local community college has a program to become a diesel mechanic technician...what’s the next position up after that? Or am I just better off getting as much experience as possible and my pay go up from there?

Hopefully moving on from a career as a welder/millwright/boilermaker to an apprenticeship as a diesel mechanic. Doing all the work on gas powered cars and trucks is going to seem small.

Same bro! What apprenticeship programs were you looking at? I was thinking of just going to technical school

I’m looking to change up careers and love big trucks and physical work. I hate sitting in an office at a manufacturer, what’s your personal opinion on career field outlook given the current global situation.

It was light out when you left and when you came home.... WTF. I'm a truck mechanic and I always leave in the dark and usually come home in it too.

Would you recommend UTI? For me, the school would be practically free so my view point is why not?
