Where are you located? Now is the time to get into this trade with little experience if you show that your ready to learn. Get a good starter set of tools and go and talk to a shop. I started in the trade about 2 years ago with no experience. I mostly work on Taylor forklifts but I touch everything from skid steers to excavators. The most you’ll every learn is from the old timers in the shop. No tech college can ever match that knowledge plus instant application of knowledge. He’s right though that field tech life is not for everyone. Some days I ducking hate my job but that days I sit back and say man I love this shit makes up for it.

I got my ass REAMED for usin the gouger to cut out the bushings on a pc 750, and I didnt cut into the main bosses either. Perks of havin a manager who knows dick all about the job but Im just a welder what do I know. Those bushings had a .001 crush too and were fun to install with heating the bosses to 500F and liquid nitrogen cooling the new bushings.
