An excellent video. Very incisive and well researched, presented amazingly. 10/10!
My man just casually cornering the Conan loretube game.
While fighting cancer. What a bad mf amr?
@@GotrekGurnisson *AND HE BEAT IT!*
the rest of conantube seething and crying
i think the best way to decribe Crom is:
Crom: "Human, I gave you life. Deal with it."
Your very right
Thanks!
It means a lot thank you
I loved this series so much. I don't read or play Conan but I find the lore very interesting. Thanks mate.
Thanks brother! More on the way!
Agreed, never got into conan but I hover around the edges and find it rather interesting.
Did I watch all these separately? Yes. Am I gonna watch the whole thing again yes
Thanks that means a lot
Well worth it, m8. You do beautiful work. 🙏☯️📿
Ahhh, a 5 hour long lore video on Conan deities. A blessing from the Gods themselves!
I have an idea for an Amazonian equivalent to the Sons of Bori. Where a warrior woman has her weaker male lover sacrificed to the demon plants. As a result she develops a deep hatred for demonic entities and views her culture’s reliance on them as a handicap for their civilization on account of subjugating half of their population. Teaching her sisters to gain warrior strength not through sacrifice but authentic self improvement similar to Crom. Inspiring them to hunt down oppressors of men and women, making them possibly one of the few egalitarian societies in the Hyborian Age as far as I know.
I can’t wait for Grimdark’s next Masterwork. I know it’s going to be epic! 👑👑👑
May this channel continue to grow and grow. Awesome content.
Thank you for the job man. Is a truly masterpiece.
I didn't read the last part of the title, I was read like a damn book. I've been rewatching all your videos on this for that reason. Damn you for calling me on it. Thank you.
Thanks for enjoying it!
Brother need you to do more of this is the best
Imagine being the ine cave man that had control of all the 🐻 you would probably feel like a demi god its actually pretty crazy
LETS GOOOO!
Drowning out the inner darkness with the tale of grim dark gods and a soothing conan-isk lore master!
I love Conan, and have loved watching this series unfold. Thank you for your endless hours of work on this series
By Chroms might. I will binge this video twice!
Listening to this while watching over my newborn child at night. Awesome. Thanks Grim Dark!
Protect baby, and happy to be of service
@@GrimDarkHalfOff With all the love and ferocity of a bear.
This is going to be awesome
I really like this video. An addition to the were-beasts of Jhebbal Sag would be the Werebear that is portrayed in Conan Exiles. Possibly an extended middle-finger from Jhebbal Sag to any bear shaman out there: "Good for you. You can transform into a beast. I am the LORD of beasts, check this out."
I think, at least in the sense of TH-cam and such, conan is not covered nearly as much as i wish it was. I play conan exiles and i love the Arnold movies (movies are what got me into it in the first place.) I'll probably listen to an audiobook and of course watch these fantastic videos on the subject. Thank you for making these, sincerely.
I love it. i listend to it like 3 Times already and it will help me with the lore and worldbuilding in my P&P Adventure set in the Hyborean Age. Thank you
Very nice video you complete all the Gods in Conan the cannon ones not the Marvel version can't wait to do more of this amazing universe of Robert E Howard.
Thanks for making this, your videos always impress and I learn new lore every time I watch.
Sleep Aid...🤣🤣🤣
I will try, but I get a feeling I will be too engrossed. Man I love these videos!
The thought is appreciated
@@GrimDarkHalfOff You rock!
Truly a great work you've done, in fact you got me interested in Conan enough that I'll be reading some of the books in the future, wish you good fortune.
You rule so much, look forward to all your vids
Mitra = Ahura Mazda. Nice vid, Great Job!
Absolutely on point.
This is an amazing video!
I have to pause in the Ymir section of the video to say this.
We must draw a very firm and clear line between Marvel’s Norse Mythology adaptation and Marvel’s production of Howard’s Conan. Moreover from a purely publishing related perspective, one must delineate the Conan comics as a Marvel-produced property rather than a Marvel-Owned (or more correctly, original) property. The same should be said of anything coming from a game producer, unless decided by community consensus to be canonized.
Marvel’s Thor and all associated elements are rooted in the fantastical elements of Norse mythology, and were created separately from what is Howard’s attempt at explaining the roots of a “modern” world religion.
That the plausibility of an Odin figure (and subsequently Thor and other figures) exists, I cannot deny - moreover I buy into and would feed into it.
However, we must understand that as each Marvel title belongs to its own universe with Marvel’s multiverse, any setting wherein Conan crosses over or cameos must be treated as such, and not as any form of canon. Therefore we cannot and must not assume an association through continuity.
Don’t worry I make a similar point in my what is canon in Conan video
@@GrimDarkHalfOff I would like to say that I enjoyed this video tremendously and only got caught on this point for the benefit of others who may labor to find continuity or correlation where there is none.
Solomon Kane said he was a Privateer under Sir Francis Drake, not a pirate. To the Spanish, same difference…
Time to sit back and relax and listen.
Working on a city of 1000 gods in Exiles, this is very helpful
It’s why I’m here brother! Have a good one!
Today i will try and bike 50 miles, thank Crom for this inspiration and work out aid.
Always luvs a binge link! Gracci!
Dude you rock, keep being awesome. Love the channel. Thanks for doing what you do.
Np! Doing a bunch of Star Wars stuff right now, but will be returning to Conan in due time!
Lets go this is exactly what i need after work
You should do the same thing for the races & cultures of conan
Good news! I am!
First off, great information. Well done!
Secondly... Is that the Journey videogame soundtrack I heard?? Dude, great choice!
Just superb. Painted some miniatures while listening. Perfect 🙏🏻
Hey really like your videos, fan of Conan myself. The only slight, slight thing I would mention is that Christians, at least classically and in the Catholic and Orthodox Churches didn't believe in God as a "Sky Father". It's a bit of confusion because the old term for anything above ground level was "The Heavens" and God resided in "Heaven" so people confused the two.
The Latin name for God, "deus" comes from the Indo-European "Dyeus" or "Dyeus Phater" meaning daylight sky god or father daylight sky god. In modern terms it could be interpreted as our farther in the heavens.
Theologian talk, I love it
No, no.YHWH resided "In the Heavens". "The Heaven" is a more, more "modern" iteration
@@AutismIsUnstoppable And this only ignoring the origins of Yhwh, which was another storm god like Baal, and from the same pantheon as Baal, and then syncretised with El, which is literally a father of gods from heaven and the heavens
very interesting lore can't wait to use it
Fantastic work man.
I'm getting into Conan, so this is really nice to watch.
Loaded this as a thing to sleep to, and then it was way too interesting!
Great job, always love your videos!
Thank you grim dark ❤
Thanks for this huge breakdown. I have owned the modiphius conan book for a while, but haven't managed to find a group. I've gotten rather into ironsworn and would love to do a solo game in this universe.
I have been looking forward to this so I can do some comparisons of some gods for 3.5 D&D without having to switch videos. :)
So satyr's are basically beastmen from Warhammer fantasy, and Ishtar seems to be basically like the same concept of a chaos god from Warhammer with just less power, it's cool seeing the crossover's.
Crom just channels Boromir 24/7, "i care not" when it comes to followers.
Digging into it at work even tho i heard it at segmentd before 😂
Much appreciated brother
Ah yes, sweet lore to fall asleep to
More than happy to be of service
Love these collections. Much needed relaxed couch time while worldbuilding in my head, falling asleep or just rest the eyes away from the screen. Question! Do you have any GM tips on how to use the more.... say adult themes in a way that reduce embarrassment.
Sorry no clue
@@GrimDarkHalfOff hahaha, yep. Thanks for the quick response.

Hey Grim, is this a big supercut? Are there any changes or new stuff from the older videos?
Yes! But no spoilers!

Have you considered narrating audiobooks ?
Trying to justify the actions of your kettle worshiper is like trying to justify the actions of P-Diddy
Thank you so much! I hope this comment helps with algorithm 😀
W video. W voice
In Marvel Comics lore, Crom was not one of the Aesir, but rather a member of the Tuatha De Nanaan, Celtic Gods
So... I have an question once the whole star wars rewrite is done, would you do one for Star Trek, since it tends to be way more optimistic and utopian in it's setting.
Just interesting to see how such an Setting can be put into such an grimdark environment. Again would be funny.
I haven't thought about it, but I will! Thanks for your thoughts!
Oh that's funny. Varney the Vampire was published in 1885. Is this another Marvel comics 'original'?
Ha! Probably so!
RANDOM QUESTION -- BUT WANTED TO ASK IT HERE:

Dear Grim Dark, I'm curious as to which deity would a "self-insert" character of yours worship, what say you?
You know something? Between Exiles and your channel, I think Im going to talk tonmy line dev about aome fresh tabletops material...
Why didn’t Conan become a deity? Also is Conan the Emperor of Mankind?
Because he settled down and became an easily recognizable historical figure as a king with a full lineage rather than being lost to history only to be revived under a new culture. As for the second question, well, I like to think so.
@@GrimDarkHalfOff do we know how one becomes a god in conan? I assumed it’s similar to the way one does in dnd or warhammer
Sigmar is a big part of why Iv been confused why later authors (like marvel) never deified conan
@@GotrekGurnissonon a practical level, I think they don’t want to deify a character that they don’t own or isn’t in the public domain.
My head cannon is that Conan would refuse any godhood even from beyond the grave because he wants to be an adventure, not a king.
Lol snake pope
I wonder if doctor doom has cross paths with conan or kull. Im not 100% sure it's Canon. But doctor doom fought the marquis of death. The fight extremely one-sided. He was sent back to the cretaceous defeated. Then it's revealed that marquee of deaths apprentices who was with him for a very long time was doctor doom. He survived to the modern age.
Now this might be a strange question, but what is your knowledge of the Gods of Acheron?
I have a 58min documentary on the civilization in question
Is Dagoth Ur only in the films?
I’m still trying to figure out what your talking about and I’ve had to have looked at this comment 40 times
I don't quite think he has Nyarlethotep down quite right. He is a primordial test much like yog but on a greater existential scale. Nyarlethotep is a much more rational and coherent manifestation of Azathoth. Most outer gods are aspects of the universe or drives of living organisms. The test Nyarlethotep poses is one of entertainment, that is why he is the sponsor of possibly every devine power. They have been proven to have a point or were at least memorable. That is why the elder gods like Bastet and Sobek overcame ancient forces or space and hunger. All of this was carefully orchestrated by Nyarlethotep to make an entertaining dream for Azathoth. I think Nyarlethotep is very pro human based on his various human avatars and million favored ones. He loves humanity because it has resisted extermination and likely produced several great old one class beings including some of the elder gods that defeated the great old ones. Tldr; Nyarlethotep loves humans because they share a sense of humor or dramatic esthetic. He serves as a nemesis to drive human progess to grander scales for the amusement of a mad god.
Fuck yeah!
Funny thing, irl God, the Trinity, would fit far more into the Great Old Ones category than the Divine category, in terms of the Conan verse anyway (obviously irl He's divine, but lets not get into word/concept fallacy).
Reason being that we don't view Him as a "Sky Daddy", any atheist you see mention that term doesn't know what their talking about or are just being insulting on purpose. What God is is, well, a mystery, we can't know His Essence, only His Energies (two terms I will not be explaining in detail. Basically His Essence is what He "is", and His Energies are what He "does", that's oversimplified through). What we do know about him is that He is outside material reality, and outside of time, beacuse he created both and is therefore outside both (because whens the last time you saw a painter _melded into_ his painting? You just know he made it because you can recognize his style, or he signed it, he isn't actually a part of the painting itself).
His mere _presence is Judgement,_ He knows all things, is aware of everything all at once and is able to comprehend it all (He knows every hair on your head, every cell of you body, knows them continually from the moment of you birth till the day you die, and the same goes for every living and nonliving creature in the world from creation into infinity). He is totally outside of our ability to even understand How his mind works. So, yeah, firmly in Great Old One category. With the rare exception of being absolutely benevolent.
Also, Pope's have been snakes for a thousand years, calling Thoth-amon Snake Pope is a pleonasm. (Obligatory Orthodox badmouthing the Pope, I can't resist)
This is only believing at face value some modern sects and ignoring completely how Yhwh came to be.
To the point of having archaeological evidence of Yhwh being another storm god residing in heaven with his (wife) Asherah, and an hermaphrodite kid whom name is unknown.
Ignoring, how it was sincretised with El-Elyon, present in all the Canaanite pantheon (which Isra-El is a Canaanite nation), being the father of many gods, including Yhwh. A heavenly father.
Ignoring, how it was also syncretised with Ahura-Mazda.
Ignoring, also, the syncretism with Jupiter before and after the NT was written in Roman times.
Ignoring, how ancient Israelites, Yahwehists, Judaists, Jewish and Christians describe Yhwh constantly as both a literal male father and as a creator deity.
And of course, ignoring the false equivalence of comparing an Eldritch apparention, with contradictory statements trying to make believe they ain't.
The only thing that has Yhwh and Eldritch Abominations have in common, is their unawareness of humanity and their violent tantrum over pettiness that has only more sense once regarded as a cruel entity that only wants entertainment like Nyarlanthotep
@@Trotoloko Word/concept fallacy, my friend. Just because the word YHWH might have at some point referred to a completely different god, doesn't mean it's modern meaning changes. It also does not mean that what we worship is the same entity. The word "Baal" for instance means "Lord", and if the Phoenician language continued to exist and Phoenicians converted to Christianity, they would have called God "Baal", despite the fact that in the Hebrew it's used to refer to a demon. This would not then mean they are worshipping a demon.
Second, just because you cannot see why God did something doesn't mean it was arbitrary or wrong. For instance, Sodom and Gomorrah were full of rapists and murderers, the Canaanites sacrificed newborn children to Moloch and Baal, and other gods, and, at the end of the day, death isn't the end and God gave us life, and He can take it away. It is a gift He has given, so it is His right to take it back at any time. It is explicitly stated in Church tradition that the people God slew, a lot of them were forgiven their atrocities when Christ died and went down to Hades, to take them to paradise (among these people were Adam and Eve, the people that died in the flood (who were stated to be as evil as can be, so just imagine every atrocity imaginable, they did it), the Canaanites God ordered the Jews to kill, and others). The greatest mistake people make when judging God is that they assume this life is all there is when God Himself claims otherwise. You are criticizing Him based on a claim that He opposes, so in effect all you are doing is engaging in a match of he said/she said.
@@voxlknight2155 Nah, you're literally dodging the subject, and using actual word fallacies. I'm talking about the recorded evidence on archaeological research.
Baal means lord? Yeah. And every single name of the Canaanite pantheon means that, including El, including Asherah, Molok, etc.
Yhwh does too.
So no, we're not talking about titles. We're talking about characters.
Then, you also ignore how the rest of Canaanite mythology is exactly like the one from the Bible, including the hyperbolic destruction of enemy nations being won on a battle or conquered, ignoring that Israel has always being inhabited by Israelites, being Israelites Canaanites, and yada, yada, yada, assuming at face value claims that contradict demonstrated reality, and even better, from myths that do enforce the syncretic nature of your religion being the same as Baal's.
Brodie, most western atheist were Christians, and most stopped believing once they wanted to face reality and not believe at face value.
You're talking with someone that was to become a priest, and read the Bible six times.
@@Trotoloko Because the only possible reason I am a Christian is that I just blindly follow my beliefs. No superiority in that statement at all.
I can't convince you if you aren't even willing to listen and dismiss me as just some idiot Christian (this is a comment section, so not like I'd be able to anyways). I grew up atheist and came to Christ later in life, and am still struggling to follow Him, so I'm not some master apologist for the Orthodox Faith. So there's really no point in arguing at all. You believe what you believe and there is nothing I can say, no proof I can give you that can convince you because you will just dismiss it as "insufficient" or "not according to modern scholars" or some other reason.
If you really want answers to all of this go to an Orthodox priest, or go watch Jay Dyer, David Erhan, or another Orthodox apologist.
@@voxlknight2155 You were an atheist? Le me press X to doubt.
Also, why apologists instead of, literal contrasted knowledge of the real world AND THEN compare it with the claims?
And why does it matter what Christian sect if the problem lies in the core of Abrahamism being both false and man made to the point of just being a sister religion of "evil ancient Pagans"?
Why are you also trying to differentiate yourself when you're taking literally the same claims as literal irrevocable happenings as any other "false Christian"?
You see, it's not a prejudice, is that you've already talked like everyone else.
Also, why not talk here and help this content creator with the algorithm, which I think we both agree to be the a chaotic mess?
Conan es puro Metal, espectacula a a ar
