Another great video Alan, I got a hive last year, went on utube to see how to wire it all up, found it very easy to do, they are so good, can turn it on when you are on the way home on cold days so it's nice and warm when you get back
Thank you Allen for your very helpful Nest guidance... hope to show my support to you now by giving to your very worthy children's charity ... good luck John Jackson
very helpful Allen. I have the vitodens 100W, i have identified my terminals on the boiler. The Nest Heatlink appears to need 240v and then i run the other 2 wires back to 1 and L on the boiler. so 5 core cable. L,N &E from the boiler circuit into the heatlink. Remove the link between 1 and L back at the boiler and use the greay and black spare wire into 2&3 at heatlink end and 1 and L at boiler end. If i have understood you correctly. Thanks
*The first one **do7.pl/google** failed in finding my network after 2 weeks, but tech support was superb and the eventual exchange was stress free. Second one fine.*
Hi Alan nice video, so this 5 core you have on your video are they all going straight back into the boiler? Or are the live and neutral coming from a separate supply?
Allen Hart I have a baxi 630 with a esi control fitted to the on off on the boiler.. But I am thinking of fitting a nest on opentherm, but when I take the wires out of the on off on the boiler into opentherm do I have to put a link cable back in the on off.. Thanks
Hi Allen, is there any how to manual available on how to efficiently use the nest and radiators, eg what level to set the nest temperature and radiators to heat only selected rooms (e.g. bedrooms during the night or leaving area during the day)
So you replace the blue and brown ‘1 & L’ cable with a 5 core. Grey and black going in their place and then just take a feed off the L&N of the boiler itself?
Thanks for the video. At 6" into the video, you are wiring into the № 2 and № 3 connections. But, as the manual for the 100 WB1B says "OpenTherm control compatible", can you not install on the OT1 and OT2 connectors instead?
No! You’d blow the boiler circuit board! OpenTherm protocol uses *low voltage* to modulate the boiler for room heating only. This vid by Allen is showing connection in an S plan system which does not modulate the boiler; it just uses on/off switching of boiler with HW &/or room heating decided by cylinder and room thermostats. For OpenTherm operation the system needs to be changed to an X plan, where the boiler is modulated by OpenTherm room thermostat for heating cycle but that is overridden by the cylinder thermostat when mains voltage switches the boiler for high temperature to heat the cylinder to avoid Legionella dangers (cylinder stat set to 60C).
Hi. I have got a Worcester Bosch green slave oil combi installed. Setup the nest but cannot get them to connect at all. Tried manually connecting still the same h71 error have you had these issues before?
With the thermostat itself I didnt have a stand for it and put it on the wall. Luckily for me the wall had an under stairs cupboard behind it with power socket in it for my tv that's on the same wall. All I did was drilled a hole thru it and plugged it up in the mains. Much better than hard wiring it. Well worth the 170 quid for it tho
Great video, but why did the client request on/off type connection? I have a valiant combo which has a third party wireless thermostat which can vary the radiator output based upon the temperature requested. Could you please do a video to show how that could be upgraded to a nest.
I have a S plan 2 heating zones and hot water zone using 2 port honeywell valves, with 2 thermostats for heating, and 1 on hot water cylinder. I would like to fit a Nest thermostat on the downstairs heat zone only. I cannot remove any of the installed equipment, so can I override the present thermostat by turning that to minimum, and leave the programmer on constant heating? Any advice welcome.
Stupid Question but does the viessmann have a live and neutral out to supply the hub. I can see the incoming but where are you getting your power from.

Would that be possible both systems underfloor heating and nest can work both independently? As I have got a job where I have been asked to connect speedfit aura wiring centre for underfloor heating and nest for radiators, boiler make is Baxi platinum plus 40kw combi

@@andrewbarker143 yes mate, are you stuck? I can send you a pic of how I done it if you want, but it was a case of the video just not showing it clearly, but there are terminals on the boiler's board to power the device, it's dead easy. Let me know if you need a hand.

I have a ideal combi boiler with the nest learning stat that’s wired to terminals 2 and 3 for volt free switching in the heatlink but I’m asking anyone who knows if it’s possible to use the 5 and 6 terminals that has the live link to make them 240v and still keep 2 and 3 volt free. It’s just that I’ve added ufh and need switched power for the pump. I haven’t installed a zone valve as I only want one stat. Is this possible without blowing the unit?

Hi Alan. Going off the subject a bit, am I right in thinking that you cant do flue gas analysis on a natural draught balanced flue. I am a trainee. Thanks Joe
Hi Allen, interesting video! How about doing one for a Viessman 100-w system boiler feeding an unvented cylinder but using an X plan and Nest to attain proper boiler modulation with OpenTherm? Seems like not many installers know how to do this and are just installing the old S plan, which is a great shame considering this boiler has one of the best modulation capabilities and the current drive to reduce carbon emissions and improve boiler efficiency. Viessman seem to push their four-pipe scheme for DHW priority, but that might not be suitable for every install, especially when replacing a boiler in an existing two-pipe system.
X plan was, I think, invented by Intergas to achieve Domestic Hot Water Priority at full heating temperature to avoid Legionella, but with OpenTherm modulation of the room heating for gas efficiency and comfort. Apparently just needs some appropriate wiring changes, a normally open water valve (instead of normally closed with S plan) on the heating circuit switched by a wire feed from the NC DHW valve, and an OpenTherm controller such as Nest 3rd generation. Apparently Tado has stopped doing HW control as nobody was implementing it in UK!!

Stupid if you have a fireplace and want to change the place for the Nest from the wall to the stand on a table during wintertime.
