  • An extremely strange and, one presumes unintentionally, creepy bicycle safety film from Interlude Films. The starring children are wearing monkey masks, which seems to draw some distinction between what silly monkeys would do and what wise and safety-conscious humans would (and should) do, as regards to riding one’s bike.

The one thing that's pretty clear is the influence Jay Ward had on Howard Everett Horton (famous for narrating the Fractured Fairytales segments of "The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle").

I like how it was completely unnecessary to the point of film (ie bike safety) to point out that one of the children was overweight, and yet they still felt the need to make it a plot point.

I think you missed the point. There was an overweight kid, but he isn't the one who got fat. Orvy, the only kid that made it to the park, had all of the lunches, and presumably ate them all.

@@ToyAddict No, I understand the title of the film and the ending's implication, that's not what I'm talking about. What I mean is the character Slim is called out for being overweight for no conceivable reason that I can see beyond some lighthearted body shaming humor. Considering the point of this film is to promote an ultimately positive message about bike safety to children, I find including the 'btw, check out this porker' commentary to be jarring at the very least, if not outright counterproductive to the film's core agenda. Maybe people wouldn't have blinked twice at that sort of thing in the 60's, idk, but from the perspective of 2019 it really left me thinking 'Wtf?'

The music and narration helps it on nicely, despite the clicks and jumps in the tape. The weight theme could have done with an overhaul though.

That's not bizarre that's just plain creepy! What the hell were they doing when they made this film experimenting with acid or LSD?
