Just bought mine 2 days ago. I’ve wanted this vehicle for DECADES! 193K and every single thing on it works. Thank you for your video and reinforcing the decision to buy an older SUV. 🤩
Love mt 2001 SR5 with leather seats, in black with 250k. It has never let me down & still starts on the 1st try. I will never get rid of it because it has been very good to me.
I really enjoyed the review of this 2000 4Runner. I purchased a 99 exactly like it in February of 99 and kept it for ten years and put 160,000 miles on it before selling it to my son stationed in Colorado. He needed the 4 wheel drive for the weather conditions there. He kept it for 10 years and returned it to me with 260,000 miles. With very minor work I’ve been driving it for 2yrs and last week turned 300,000 mile and runs like a champ. Drive it daily instead of my Lexus or BMW. My wife enjoy our 21 year old 4Runner..
That’s so cool. I love my 4Runner and it sounds like yours has served your family well. I just picked up a very clean 2004 Land Cruiser with 175k miles on it. There’s a review of it coming soon. I love these older Toyotas. They can go anywhere you point them and their reliability is legendary. Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching!

Great review 🎉 just bought mine it’s a 2000 green SR5 4X4 everything works and I love this thing….I’ll never get rid of it, well made trucks…in my opinion are the best in the world.
Love my 3rd gen 4Runner it’s lifted 5 inches on 33 inch Mickey Thompson tires with 286k miles it still runs like new ! Dosent leak or burn a drop of fluids and I just did the timing belt and water pump so here’s to another 250k !!
I just bought my second vehicle and it is a 2000 4runner just like this one. I'm excited to set it up as a camping and fishing rig, any ideas or suggestions?
I have a 2000 limited I have old man emu 2-in lift springs with bilsteins. Oversized BF Goodrich ko2s on stock wheels. My truck has the lockout rear end and the all-wheel drive system transfer case. I run amsoil all through the truck . My truck has 250,000 MI. It runs excellent it goes through deep snow like you would not believe. I always haul two mountain bikes upside down with the handlebars facing the back and the front wheels off to the sides this is my mountain bike ride I take it all over the state of Minnesota I just serviced it this fall. And I'm thinking about purchasing a set of Toyota racing development wheels to replace the originals. It deserves it that dog gone thing has got me everywhere with zero problems, I mean zero problems this truck is bulletproof. If you can find a good one the best year is 1999 and 2000, limited edition the limited edition has the bigger brakes and if you're lucky it has the electronic rear lockout it also has a 530 gear which is a little lower. The big reason I say that this year and limited is the best truck is that it has a transfer case that has a button on the side of the shifter for all-wheel drive those are the only two years for that option it works fantastic period will my wife has it and we live in Minnesota and she's in the snow she doesn't understand all the shifters and whatnot. But she understands that button on the side of the transfer case shifter and she loves the way it drives and all-wheel drive period so if you can find one good luck I wouldn't hesitate
On the center console storage, you forgot to show the small item storage under the arm rest that you access by pulling up on the arm rest without depressing the underside button. It took me a long time to discover this storage.
I have a 2000 SR5 in just as good condition, I love the styling of this SUV it still looks modern today and it's hard to even tell the design dates back all the way to 1991 (yes 1991 is when Toyota started designing the third gen). I have done some tasteful mods to it though, I have redone the leather on the seats (same color as the original, hard to tell the new leather is not factory), added a new radio, and swapped out the interior/dashboard lights with LEDs (HIGHLY recommend doing this, it makes the dash look FAR less dated at night. IDK what Toyota was thinking with that ugly green they choose)
You should send us some pics and we’ll post on our Facebook and Instagram pages. Send to: reviews@TwoGuysAndaRide.com. I’d love to see it! I do like the idea of LED dash lights. Remember, green was a. “Cool” color back in those day! Thanks for watching
I’ll tell you what…..just bought mine, it’s a 2000 sr5 4X4 with 170k everything works and it’s green….you might not like the color but they are hard to find in this color….the common ones are white and beige light color. Anyway enjoy your like I’ll enjoy mine.
I have exactly the same 4Runner which I bought last June. Even the same color 150k mileage.. The only difference , I have the sport model with the hood scoop. Has traction lock and 4wd. What makes mine really a remarkable find is that it was a Nevada car; absolutely no rust anywhere. I plan on fluid filming it to keep it rust free. Absolutely love this vehicle!
That’s awesome. Mine was a California car and it only has 2WD. So right now being that I’m in Minnesota, he stays in the garage with the Battery Tender on. Thanks for watching
@@calebmelton5989 in southern california the only time I seen a 4runner on the side of the road was a lifted one due to a ball joint failure, which even on a stock truck is something to pay attention to and replace as they age
Shop techs love hate 4Runners love them because they're great reliable vehicles, hate them because all they ever need is basic mantience oil changes, fluid flush, brake pads and rotors can't make any money on them lol. Yep I bought one March 2022 but it’s a 2wd mine has 187,000 on it and it was a moms grocery getter , a Florida vehicle and other than Disney stickers on the back window and spilled chocolate shake on the rear carpet it was in really good shape the frame and under side look like it’s almost new , it has all the Symptoms of a truck this age , I’ve replaced a lot of things that I think need to be done to keep it on the road for probably longer than me , I love this truck, the interior seems smaller but I actually like it , seats are comfortable and one thing I like is if your elbow is out the window it’s the right height 👍🏼 v 6 automatic gets around 17 city 20-21 on the hwy , it’s not a light flimsy truck it’s solid , it came with a hitch and the reason I bought it was to tow a small boat , I don’t know how much they cost when they were new but I know that this is the Best Buy out there for a used vehicle for the money mine has a 2” lift kit and larger all terrain tires , and no running boards , it sure makes things interesting when the wife gets in with a skirt on 😳👍🏼🤣
My sweet white on-white camper shell, '93 Toyota Pickup; 23 years; 2nd owner; 22RE 2.4L; 4X2; 5 Speed Manual W55: Salvaged in Bastard-Style Hit-N-Run....My Little Goat was gone. Forlorn.... Enjoyed the vid. Cheers!
Good video guys! But you missed a few details, such as the sun roof, and the front center armrest have an extra lid compartment built into it. You just move your fingers slightly and lift it up and it reveals another little compartment. Also, when folding the rear seat backrest, the fist thing you do, is to insert the lower seat belt recipients, into the cut outs in the backrest, so they won't harm anything. Very neat. Then at the back there are the compartment with multiple facilities on the right side. Unfortunately, the extra wheel sits underneath and not at the rear door. There are more than these few things mentioned, but anyway, thanks for sharing! Kind regards.
Oh I know all these little "extras". I own this vehicle. Just had to limit the video length so had to skip over a few cool things. Thanks for sharing, I see you know your Gen 2's very well!
Not too many hard competitors, as this was at the top of its class. The Nissan had the X-Terra and pathfinder, still offered their own specific options. These SUV's are legendary for overlanding now, have a huge fan base!
We have a 00 limited 4wd with e locker 233k miles. My dad is the second owner and hopefully I’ll be the 3rd one day These were 34k new back in the day that’s like 63k in today’s money roughly the same price of our fully decked out 2018 limited when he bought it. Its also 4wd with wanted additions like the 3rd row we’ve actually use for my little nephews it also has the power running boards which apparently are rare since they were a factory add on you make when ordering at the dealer.
I bought one five years ago with a hundred and fifty thousand on it now I have 322000 on it and it's still purring like a kitten I take good care of it might be my last vehicle why to buy a new one when you got a good one. It is great for pulling my 13 foot scamp travel trailer.
Wow!! 322k and still going strong? These things are amazing. It’s no wonder Toyota still sells bunches of these every year. It’s hard to beat a 4Runner! Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching
i have a 2002 4runner SR5 - 4wheel drive - it has the wide wheel jams - i am Canada - the truck is from the US ( in miles , not kl. ) it has 200,000 miles. runs great - no rattles ( a tank )
I bought one 2000 model at 5500 buck with ODO of 190k KM. Very good condition, the former owner just changed timing belt and 4 new tires. Was is a rip off or fair price? I just ask for more information. Anyway, I love my one, extremely reliable
Congratulations on your 4Runner. It seems to be a good purchase price. At the end of the day, it’s your call. As long as you’re happy, and it sounds like you are, then it’s a very good deal. Thanks for watching
3rd gen 4runner made history I cant lie. It's now a pretty cheap luxurious vehicle. I cant wait until I get my own, I might go for a diesel 3.0 KZTE engine. They're also quite bulletproof.
I got a 95 4runner originally a 3.0 3vze v6 it now houses a 3.4l v6. i also have 2 98 4runners, both auto 3.4l v6. My one 3rd gen blew up at 426k miles and the other one has 178k miles
I have this exact car except it’s 4wd with the large overfenders! Has almost 250k on it and runs beautifully! Only issue is the rear diff is leaking.. Not sure what to do about it
Rear diff cover gasket, breather plugged or axle seals leaking not much else could be wrong get it figured out before loosing all the fluid and burning up the rear end.
Try tugging up on your center console lid without pressing the button on the underside. Should reveal your secret storage! At least it does on my 2002.
I have a 98 sr5 4x4 that's mint. Can anyone clear up what SR5 means? Used to mean 5 speed manual(mine is). Seems nothing after 3rd gen has a manual option, but sr5 is still a thing?
Thanks for the question. The SR5 stands for “Sport Rally 5”. The “S” stands for Sport, the “R” stands for the engine family (the RE) that it is equipped with, and the “5” stands for 5 speed transmission. Thanks for watching!
Hey guys! Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed your review. Sadly, I'm not in the USA, but still I spent a lot of time watching this kind of videos from there, because there aren't really many good reviews in spanish. Anyway, I'm about to buy a 1999 3.0 diesel Toyota Hilux Surf (wich I Think is the Japanese version of 4Runners) with 165000 km (about 102000 milles). How many kms do you guys think these vehícules can last?
Great looking 4runner! Looking at purchasing one of these for a 2nd vehicle - is it feasible to fit 3 kids in the back? (rear facing, front facing, and booster seats)?
Thanks and its a nice flat second row bench seat but its not a very wide vehicle (Think small truck). This generation was still the size of the original small Toyota trucks of the previous 20 years so you may want to take your car seats along with you if you find one you're entered in buying. Thanks for watching!
A very gorgeous looking 4runner matter of fact I have the same year and color in mint condition just like yours mine is now going on 270,000 soon and I just love it to death

Yep I bought one March 2022 but it’s a 2wd mine has 187,000 on it and it was a moms grocery getter , a Florida vehicle and other than Disney stickers on the back window and spilled chocolate shake on the rear carpet it was in really good shape the frame and under side look like it’s almost new , it has all the Symptoms of a truck this age , I’ve replaced a lot of things that I think need to be done to keep it on the road for probably longer than me , I love this truck, the interior seems smaller but I actually like it , seats are comfortable and one thing I like is if your elbow is out the window it’s the right height 👍🏼 v 6 automatic gets around 17 city 20-21 on the hwy , it’s not a light flimsy truck it’s solid , it came with a hitch and the reason I bought it was to tow a small boat , I don’t know how much they cost when they were new but I know that this is the Best Buy out there for a used vehicle for the money mine has a 2” lift kit and larger all terrain tires , and no running boards , it sure makes things interesting when the wife gets in with a skirt on 😳👍🏼🤣
Congrats on snagging one. Keep it serviced and it'll last forever! Thanks for sharing
@@TwoGuysandaRide thanks guys only had this 4 runner 4 months and it already feels like an old friend that came home 👍 🤗

Enjoyed the vid. Cheers!
Lol Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching
Check out my 2004 Land Cruiser too! th-cam.com/video/hCfgd2CNRvY/w-d-xo.html
This is how SUVs should be made.
Agreed. Thanks for watching
Number of times that my ‘05 has let me down? Zero. Still runs great.
Glad to hear it. Thanks for watching
Not too many hard competitors, as this was at the top of its class. The Nissan had the X-Terra and pathfinder, still offered their own specific options. These SUV's are legendary for overlanding now, have a huge fan base!
Agreed. Legendary! Thanks for watching
Stellar review, truck, and video. good work. My 2000 is an oldie but a goodie.
Thanks for watching
We have a 00 limited 4wd with e locker
233k miles. My dad is the second owner and hopefully I’ll be the 3rd one day
These were 34k new back in the day that’s like 63k in today’s money roughly the same price of our fully decked out 2018 limited when he bought it. Its also 4wd with wanted additions like the 3rd row we’ve actually use for my little nephews it also has the power running boards which apparently are rare since they were a factory add on you make when ordering at the dealer.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing
Great job guys…most entertaining car review I have seen.
Well thanks! Thanks for watching
Great chemistry and natural reviews. More like a conversation.
Thank you. We’re having a ball. Thanks for watching
Great vid, guys. Love that you're just two guys who love driving cars.
Oh yes and boy it’s fun getting to drive all the different cars too. Thanks for watching
My 05 is still a beauty. 274k and im still trying to see if i can run it down.
Mine is at 197k and many miles left to go. Thanks for watching
i have a 2002 4runner SR5 - 4wheel drive - it has the wide wheel jams - i am Canada - the truck is from the US ( in miles , not kl. ) it has 200,000 miles. runs great - no rattles ( a tank )
Mine is almost at 200k too. It’s as solid as the day it was built. Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching
Thanks for the feedback. They are fantastic vehicles! Thanks for watching
I’d buy the 4Runner out of all the other SUVs
Can’t argue with that logic. Thanks for watching
I got a 95 4runner originally a 3.0 3vze v6 it now houses a 3.4l v6. i also have 2 98 4runners, both auto 3.4l v6. My one 3rd gen blew up at 426k miles and the other one has 178k miles
These 4Runners are awesome!
Love reviews on old cars...
Thanks. I really loved this review too 😎
Thats a great looking SUV. Im jealous
Thank you. Thanks for watching
Your 4Runner is so clean

I have a 99 4Runner supercharger V6 298 MI runs excellent have to sell it
Thanks for watching!
Damn snowbirds teaching my young mind things. 🤙🤙
LOL....Thats "Boomers" to you sonny! "Get off my lawn".....Thanks for watching
I swear if a zombie apocalypse ever happen this is the car to bring.
Lol that’s funny. Thanks for watching
I have this exact car except it’s 4wd with the large overfenders! Has almost 250k on it and runs beautifully! Only issue is the rear diff is leaking.. Not sure what to do about it
As long as its not a cracked diff, I'd think replacing the seal would fix it. Thanks for watching
@@TwoGuysandaRide I hope that's the issue! Haven't had a chance to check yet unfortunately.. Great video, learned alot about my own car!
Rear diff cover gasket, breather plugged or axle seals leaking not much else could be wrong get it figured out before loosing all the fluid and burning up the rear end.
@@iffykidmn8170 I heard somewhere that the diff housing itself can rust holes, then you're really screwed.. Hopefully that's not the case
@@iffykidmn8170 True....pretty straight forward repairs too
You should see my 96 Ac controls. It’s all lever lol. also thats a very clean runner
Oh Yeah! Thanks for watching
I just got a 2001 and need to appreciate it, but dont really know how to use the 4wheel yet ??
I only have the 2WD in mine but it’s very simple to use. Congratulations and go enjoy it. Thanks for watching
Try tugging up on your center console lid without pressing the button on the underside. Should reveal your secret storage! At least it does on my 2002.
Thanks, I’ll give it a try. Thanks for watching
Be sure to change those lower balljoints! If you haven’t yet
Already done. Thanks for watching
Very detailed Review, thank you.
Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching!
@@TwoGuysandaRide , i am decided to buy one of those bad boys, im just waiting for the right opportunity, thanks again.
@@Steven-lf1gc they are getting harder to find. People aren’t selling them and ones that are sold change hands quickly. Good luck!
@@TwoGuysandaRide , i finally found it , i am happy with it so far, thanks.
Just wondering but how many miles does your 4Runner have?
199,375 miles. Going to have a party at 200k and give her an oil change and detail. Thanks for watching
Where do i find one without rust in Ontario, Canada because they literally dont exist😅
You need to look in the US to Texas, Florida or California
No rubbing with that tire setup? Just curious.
None, not at all
Awesome! Thank you! Welcome to your channel and congratulations on your new Hilux!
I just got one of these today
Awesome! Thanks for watching
Awesome! Thanks for the review guys. Keep it going!
Oh we will. We love doing this channel. Thanks for watching
Do these things ever come in a different color?
Oh yes, in 2001 you had these choices:
Black
Black/Black Cladding
Dorado Gold
Dorado Gold/Dorado Gold Cladding
Glacier Metallic
Glacier Metallic/Thunder Cloud Cladding
Imperial Jade Mica
Imperial Jade Mica/Imperial Jade . Thanks for watching
I'd love to have it.
