I and two of my friends crossed it in the early 80's. You had to step on the railroad ties because there was nothing between them and you could easily slip at least one leg through. One of my two friends almost panicked and swore he kept hearing a train coming but we made it across without incident. Dumb college aged kids doing dumb stuff.

Back in the 1970s and 80s there used to be a small shack about 50 yards east from the center of the trestle near the creek that was supposed to be where the 'sheep man' or 'goat man' resided. There used to be a very strange farm further up Pope lick road, the address was 2112, it was called 'The Four Winds' named after the four winds that were held back by the four angels of the apocolypse. The farm was located on Pope Lick road near I-64 but on the south side of the interstate. The house and buildings were all painted red and had black roofs and the fence around it was black as well. At the enterance to the farm were many signs, all hand painted, warning 'trespassers will be persecuted' ect. It was a very creepy place back then, but always a good area to bring a date! It had been thought that is was a place for satanic worship or witchcraft practiced in the area. I had also heard from a man in my old neighborhood who was an arrow head collector that a very old indian village was found west of the trestle area in the late 1960s. It was dug and most of what was found was taken to a museum downtown, but he was able to find arrowheads all along that creek after they had finished their dig.
That area is rich in creepy dept. I think the trestle walk was started as a dare by J-Town and Fern Creek H.S. students, back then the train traffic was more frequent, and it was always to be done after dark. In the winter, when all the leaves are down and you look South and a train is approaching, there is a rail crossing with lights that flash. I believe that the legend of the Goatman's eyes glaring red was actually that crossing lights seen in the distance before a train was heard.
I used to run around in that area as a teenager and 20 something and grew up in the Hikes Point area. Before they finished building the Gene Snyder Freeway that area was very country in setting. My how it has changed. Keep the videos coming, I really enjoy them!

You can read all the web page articles about it things, but it just doesn't compare to hearing from someone who knows about a topic first hand. Thank you for sharing! Also, thanks for the words of encouragement. It's good to know when someone else likes my videos :)

Reagan L. No not really, I know the old owners name was chester, don’t know his last name but he passed away a few years ago and his wife moved to Florida so it has new owners or renters or something. But I’ve never really looked into the history.

Yep! Wanted a closer look at the track, it's so much longer and narrower than I imagined, and certainly does look abandoned, very creepy. Doesn't even look safe for Trains!!! 😳

Hello, what brought me here is I was looking for the answer, "When was the Trestle built?". You said in the 1920's but according to the Parklands website:
Train Trestle - Built in the late 1800s, the train trestle near Fisherville, rises 90 feet above Pope Lick, a tributary to Floyds Fork of which the second park is named. The Louisville Loop goes right under the trestle before reaching Taylorsville Rd. and it’s an area full of lore and superstition. Many stories and even some short films have asserted that the Pope Lick Monster, a half-man, half-goat lives on this trestle operated by the Norfolk Southern Railroad. Many people claim to have seen the monster, and maybe you will too as you walk or ride along the Loop in Pope Lick Park!
I subscribed to your channel because I love history. Thanks.

Hi Timmy O'Flaherty, I had trouble finding a build date back when I made this video. One website I found estimated around the 1920's, but it looks like it's actually much older from the info that you found. I will put a note in the video description. Thanks for pointing this out to me and thank you for subscribing :)
