    CT homes are cheap (for the northeast) because of high property taxes. Same issue as Illinois, they have a pension problem requires high taxes to fund, which drives home prices lower in a negative feedback loop.

    I know this is pedantic, but the median and the mean are both different types of averages. Average is not synonymous with mean. It would be correct, although unclear, to say "average" and then give either the median or the mean ( or the mode lol).

      @@kaiwenhe5518 No I meant real estate has jumped up 20,000. like the op said. He was talking about how much houses cost from 2023 t0 2024. I don't think the value of our home has gone up much. I think the value is around 350,000. or so Our taxes are 4000.00 a year now. They were 3200. So they went up 800.00 dollars this year.

      Property taxes are not based upon the market value of your home. They are based on the assessed value of your home. We would all love to buy homes at the assessed value, but then if course sell them at the market value. The real issue with property taxes is not what they city or town assess your home for, it’s what the city or town needs to make to provide the services they believe their citizens should have. Right or wrong that’s the basis. Most never attend public hearings during budget time. We allow them to create a mill rate and then we bitch our taxes are too high. The saying you can’t fight City Hall is true but you can influence it if you start early. I have many examples of this when I lived in Saco and we started a committee called Saco Citizens for sensible taxes, which then turned into Saco Citizens for sensible government. Things changed because a light was shined on the challenges in the optics. The town didn’t want.

    • @WickedMaine
      @WickedMaine 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ Yes of course you are correct. I was addressing two different things, and it might have come out wrong. I know it has to do with where you live and what kind of place you are living. Unorganized, industrial, ocean, ect..ect. Also what businesses are around. They do jump when a big tax payer goes under. Happens. I am a little ignorant but not completely stupid.

    I got out of the military last month and I'm already looking at a land in Down East. I want to get in before the state gets too crowded. About the whole "don't bring too many people to Maine" thing - I get it. Places that are beautiful and not crowded are usually either super expensive or totally undeveloped. The key is just to be respectful and nice to everyone. The world is what we make it.

I admire the strong and spirited position that you took, regarding making the celebration of our Commanding Lord's birthday front and center. This is my first time watching your video. It was professional and informative. And my gut sense is that you are a strong leader, who is steadfast and confident. Well, I certainly appreciate your input regarding the winters in Maine especially, since my wife and I are planning to visit Maine for the first time sometime in February?! More importantly, thank you for the invaluable tips about winters in Maine. One thing I learned while scouting was to always be humble, tactically wise, and ask the locals all about their environment, especially for threat analysis.This has proven invaluable, especially from safety and security perspectives! Once again, thanks and I enjoyed listening to your presentation style! Sincerely, Bill Seddon Sr. P.S. "Philly Philly."

When I’m finally called home, maybe tomorrow maybe years from now, when I cross that great divide, I won’t beg on my death bed for more time like the sorrows of men who live with regret wishing they had more time to do things over. I live my life for my family, for my friends, for the ones who I am put in their path to help. Tomorrow is not promised to any of us, I had to strip away my ego, my insecurities, my shame to realize we are here love one another, help one another, bend a knee to no one but the Lord, respect others even if their views are not yours, and lead by showing grace, being humble and believe I am, just like you and everyone else, a child of God, and he doesn’t make mistakes. Thank you for the kind words, thank you for supporting the channel. God Bless….stay in touch…..Scott

Maine’s beauty and opportunities make it an attractive place for many, and I understand concerns about maintaining the state’s unique character. However, bringing in diverse talent can help support local businesses, create jobs, and ensure Maine remains a vibrant and thriving community for future generations. I appreciate the conversation and encourage respectful dialogue as we all work toward what’s best for our state. The train is already underway and you either can hop on or get out of the way, or get run over, but either way it’s coming. your response is fear based which is a reflection upon you and your insecurities more than this great state of Maine. Good luck.

    There have been parking passes for the beach since the early 80's at least that is nothing new. Vines landing aka the gut. Personally there's too much building going on by the water and people forget we still get a lot of big storms and hurricanes not as many as down south but I e seen beach houses be picked up and the remaining bit pushed across the road to be fair. I wish more mill towns with vacant mills would be redesigned there are plenty of them or I wish someone would do something with the old trull hospital there are still vacant spaces without wiping out woodland areas the less we preserve the more bleak the future. I do wish they would work more on parking down town so those areas are more easily accessed.

      Cool. One of the tools a lot of out of state buyers use that I provide is a custom search stream that is set up from the criteria they give me. It’s free to them and they all really like it because not only is it custom to their wants but it has nice graphics and notifies them when something comes up matching their criteria. Most Realtors use the generic MLS search tool which is very clunky and vanilla. This is not that. You do need to provide an email and accept the cloud stream but after that it’s totally easy to customize and use. If you’re interested just let me know.

    Having grown up in a small ski slope town in Jay / Livermore Falls with a rope tow ski lift powered by a tractor engine forcing skiers to buy heavy duty gloves as to now burn their hands, I've got a slightly different opinion on the skiing here in Maine. Raising kids on these type of towns is great. As an adult Sugarloaf and Sunday River is always the mountains that people recommend. Albeit, I would enjoy in perfect conditions to go to Sugarloaf, it is rare that when they had gondola service at least that the top of the mountain was open. Too windy and never available. Sunday River I have nothing bad to say. Saddleback is the best mountain. However due to ownership and infrastructure its a local's ski slope. As a realtor, new people moving to this state are disappointed initially and in certain regions they last a few years then move. Or tough it out eventually becoming very negative due to the growing retired community here with not enough services to accommodate. good video.

    I love Maine! I'm from Caribou, Maine. Born and raised on the family farm. I was working before I knew I was working! Back in the 70s the schools in Aroostook County went back to school in late August for 3 weeks then we were let back out for the potato harvest. This traditional practice helped out the farmers and the students got to make some money. We up here in "The County" are well known for our work ethics. When I joined the Army in 1980, I might have come from the country, but I knew many different things that these mama's boys had no clue of. I'm older now and a housebound disabled veteran, and I hate it! What I wouldn't give to be able to walk again.

    Your point regarding the sometimes inaccuracy of town tax maps is apparently correct. A lot abutting my Maine camp/wood lot that I purchased a few years back is listed by the town tax records as 35 acres, it actually surveyed out at just shy of 50 acres. Interestingly two of the four sides are town lines.

      Hi there, per your request, here’s a quick update on Brunswick's real estate market for November: Average Sale Price: $566,071, slightly up from $561,183 in October. Active Listings: 39, compared to 34 in October. Sold Listings: 14, down from 24 the previous month. Sale-to-List Price Ratio: Increased to 104.5% from 101.5% in October. Days on Market (DOM): Up to 30 days from 28 in October. Months of Inventory: Increased to 2.79 from 1.42 in October. These figures suggest the market is slowing down, which is typical for this season. However, this also indicates the housing market in Brunswick is starting to normalize as we adjust to the new home values across the country. Median Home Value: $525,910, showing a modest increase of 0.08% from October and a notable 5.8% growth over the past year. If you have questions about these trends or are curious about buying or selling in Brunswick, feel free to reach out. I’m here to help!

      Over the past decade, Maine has consistently maintained one of the lowest crime rates in the United States. Here’s an overview of crime trends in Maine compared to national statistics: Violent Crime: • In 2022, Maine reported a violent crime rate of 103.3 incidents per 100,000 people, the lowest in the nation. • The FBI’s 2023 data indicates a 3.0% decrease in violent crime nationwide compared to 2022. Property Crime: • Maine’s property crime rate has remained relatively stable, with 32 crimes per 1,000 people in both 2021 and 2022. • Nationally, property crime rates increased by 6.7% in 2022, marking the first rise since 2001. Homicides: • Maine experienced 29 homicides in 2022, up from 18 in 2021. Despite this increase, the state’s homicide rate remains significantly below the national average. • Nationally, the estimated number of murder and non-negligent manslaughter offenses decreased by 11.6% in 2023 compared to the previous year. Overall Trends: • Maine’s overall crime rate has remained steady, with 44,373 crimes reported in 2022 compared to 44,637 in 2021. • The state’s consistent low crime rates contribute to its reputation as one of the safest states in the nation. In summary, Maine has maintained low crime rates over the past decade, often outperforming national trends. While certain categories, such as homicides, have seen fluctuations, the state’s overall crime levels remain among the lowest in the U.S.

    Born and bred Mainer here. The worst thing about Maine winters is the power outages, but as long as you have the right gear, those can be survived. Fill up your tub and gallon jugs with water so you can still flush the toilets. If you don't have a wood or pellet stove, get an alternate heat source like a kerosene heater. And if you can afford it, get a generator to keep the fridge going so you don't lose your food. Easy peasy.

    A sanctuary means that police serve and protect all people in the city, regardless of their immigration status. If someone is undocumented, they should feel safe to report a crime without worrying about being locked up themselves. It's safer for everyone. At least that's my understanding.

    • @LiveLifeInMaine

      Undocumented means either in the country without proper approval like crossing a boarded illegally or staying beyond permission like a visa expiration. Neither should be permitted.

    • @BrianDumez
      @BrianDumez หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LiveLifeInMaine I'm not saying illegal activity should be permitted, but it is ICE's responsibility to detain them, not local police. I can give you an analogy. Prostitution is illegal. If a prostitute is raped, she can report the crime without fear of being arrested herself for prostitution - it's police policy. It should be the same for immigrants who are here illegally. Otherwise they will perpetually be victimized by criminals who know that they will always get away with it.

    How would it be living through a central to northern Maine winter in a modernized 1750's house? Looking to do that next year sometime. From Texas.

    • @LiveLifeInMaine
      @LiveLifeInMaine 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ironically there are a lot of farms houses built in the 1700’s peppered throughout Maine. Northern Maine is going to require the house to be wrapped tight, even so house that old are going to g to be drafty. Lots of wood for burning. Central Maine won’t be as cold depending on where you are but still going to require the home to be winter proof as much as possible. If you have never lived here I guess it would be like me living in Odessa in the middle of summer. You’re in for an adventure but I can promise you it will be rewarding.

    Another one that doesn't know the value of diversity. I would rather have my kids exposed to some other cultures than live in blank white suburbia with cookie cutter interests. I grew up in Maine (and lived for a time in 4 other states).. These Maine folk are some of the most judgemental, narrow minded people that exist. Some of us even descended from Salem witch trial families and their thinking (like this guy) has not evolved all that much since then. They want to blame the immigrants, yet most of these immigrants are a better class than their white ancestors that first populated this godforsaken wilderness.
