To add to what you said: I think this quest represents the Drifter and the Operator reconnecting through shared emotions (so long after their timelines split when they took/didn't take that deal with the Man in the Wall). The Drifter is the variant of the Operator that never got void powers and was left stranded in the void. With no way to escape, the Drifter sook refuge in "the Tales of Duviri", a children's story book (written by Euleria Entrati, who is Mother on Deimos btw) that was supposed to teach the children on the Zariman to control their emotions (as unchecked emotions are dangerous in the void, as the void mirrors the minds who gaze into it) through the medium of bed time stories filled with colorful and allegorical characters that each represent an emotion. And after enough time, the void mirrored the Drifter's mind and the imaginary realm of Duviri was brought into reality right there, next to the still stranded Zariman. The Drifter grew up there with the heroes of their childhood stories, until they became an adult and wanted out. Dominus Thrax, afraid of losing his best friend, did not allow it and trapped the Drifter in a time loop. Loop after loop, spiral after spiral, death after death, for thousands of years. Until all emotions left the drifter and only apathy remained. When the Operator is banished to the void by Ballas, the loop is broken by a new variable. Two instances of the same entity (Operator and Drifter) unknowingly reconnect (symbolized earlier by the Drifter feeling Ballas impaling the Operator with the Paracesis, and later by the "mirror" minigames showing Operator and Drifter collaborating to unlock the pieces of the doll). This is what the Paradoxes Teshin talks about are. Manifestations of the Operator's memories and feelings bleeding into the realm created by the Drifter's mind. The warframes and weapons you find in Duviri are echoes of the real deal, manifested from the memories of the Operator that are bleeding into the Drifter and Duviri. During the Duviri Paradox quest, the Drifter experiences and processes the Operator's trauma (as you said), regaining control over their own emotions in the process and in doing so reconquered the power they had over the realm they accidentally created in the first place. I believe that connecting to the Operator's memories and feelings this way is what allowed the Drifter to see the outside world and finally leave Duviri to help the Tenno in the Origin system. At the same exact time, in the New War quest, the Operator landed in the Drifter's past aboard the Zariman, and took the deal with the Man in the Wall that the Drifter didn't take. In doing so, the Operator retroactively granted the Drifter the same void powers as the Tenno, and connected to the Drifter in a similar way to how the Drifter connected to the Operator in Duviri. Part of these powers is the fusion of all variants of the Tenno across possible timelines into one being (represented by all the other variants of the operator collapsing during the handshake scene in the New War), which completed the connection and fused Operator and Drifter into one once more. This allowed the Operator to leave the void and rejoin the Drifter in realspace, reappearing in their place in front of the newly reawoken but still broken Lotus/Natah. Now they are two instances of the same being, a superposition of Operator/Drifter that cannot coexist for long outside of the Void, as they occupy the same place in history. So the Operator/Drifter entity now continuosly switches between its two states, with them taking turns in keeping the Origin System safe. Only in the void, afaik, can both manifest at the same time and talk to each other face to face. That's why you had to choose which one completed the New War: the Operator/Drifter superposition collapses into one of the two states upon entering realspace. Or at least, i think this is what happens. The whole deal is confusing as fuck.

Remember in New War when Drifter said, "I was stuck, but not Zariman." Unlike the Operator, Drifter never left Zariman. The kid was all alone at Zariman, so they created a new world using the story of Duviri they read when they were kids, with the power of the Void. They were stuck for so long that they couldn't remember. Drifter's emotions created all the characters in Duviri. Because of that, Drifter stopped feeling emotions and could face "Alone" itself. They only remembered their memories and feelings when the Hand of Lotus and Teshin went to Duviri.
@@powzutoma1429 And the only reason they were never saved from the Zariman, is because of the handshake with the Man in the Wall. Duviri hit really close to home. I Suffered from depression and anxiety for most of my life and the concept and story of the duviri paradox woke me up. These are the stories that I enjoy; Ones that spark a deep meaning within yourself and the world around you after you finish reading it. Something destiny often lacks.

To be fair, it is not just extra content for free for existing players, it is a massive lure for new players. They promoted it quite well, had a lot of streamers and youtubers try it out and it pulled a lot of players into the game. Even though I was initially not interested in the mode, it was the time this came out that I was reintroduced to warframe by those same youtubers and streamers. Looking at just the steam numbers, warframe was actually growing as a game back then and still now .. after so many years of existing.
Lol 29:16 is hilarious, I felt the same way when I did duviri and I've been playing Warframe for years. Duviri is so trippy and confusing even if you understand what Warframe story is. Warframe is just an awesome crazy game 35:55 I love how he's finally just clearly enjoying Warframe as much as the rest of us do. Warframe Really is a special game that some how has so many strange things in it. One of these days I'm sure they will add in something else we don't expect, I mean they added a dating sim in recently lol
In the New War right after Drifter and Operator drank 'to freedom' Drifter's hand started glowing and Drifter mentioned that this is is his cue. When you realize that this is actually Lotus' hand, it looks as if Lotus was scolding Drifter for giving the Operator a booze.
52:01 man, I hate it when the stream cuts out and suddenly a crap ton of plat goes to my account... In all seriousness I wonder what would Cross' reaction if he gets the 70/75% plat discount.
*new war spoiler. The reasons this is better played after New War is the beginning of this happens when Ballas kills Teshin, Lotus, and your operator at the start of New War. That is Lotus's hand the meteors down, Teshins body also falls into the void and is why he is here, and you can hear Ballas's words about sending you to hell when you get impaled at the start of this mission. Also if you play this before second dream, you get the default chatacter dude from the intro so it makes it confusing to understand that your operator and the drifter are the same person. I think it should be gated after New War, but they added some new player friendly stuff in the spirals that is really handy and thats why people not as interested in story would want you to play it earlier.
I replayed new war recently and apparently duviri is first because during the part when your with lotus brother drifter says "I should have stayed in duviri"
Also in the 1999 computer one of the conversations you have is that duviri was made by the drifter and that's how he survived because all of the duviri characters are from a book that's about controlling your emotions from the void so you don't go mad that's why you always calm them down at the end and the person always narrating is mother from demos like how she was giving the test in the flash back when the jump into the void so like how the drifter said in new war your the one that got save and I wasn't so he was stuck fighting him self aka thrak
@sevagoth116 Drifter has been living in Duviri ever since they were a kid on the Zariman and created the world from a storybook. They only got the ability to break out of that world when Lotus's hand and Teshin showed up (and one can prsume the operator also as they too were pulled into the void during the start of New War). So for the thousand years or so Operator was asleep on the moon Drifter was torturing themselves in Duviri and growing up. "Not sure which one of them got it worse" Drifter tells operator . The loop was likely not always is as the one we see here where Lotus's hand comes crashing in. Though with eternalism maybe it was.
@@sevagoth116new war is first til the part ballas slice lotus hand. Then duviri happen. Then it continues to new war again where drifter first mission
In terms of when you should play them I think it should be New War - Duviri. In terms of what came first story it’s Duviri - New War. Duviri is the backstory for the drifter but new war introduces the character better. Either way it won’t hurt his understanding of continuity for the story so it’s fine.
I thought it takes place during new war what i want to know is when drifter left duviri how did he meet up with ordis and discover about the lotus other than that he/she had lotus's hand
@@smurphy55656 The Lotus' hand kind of gave the Drifter a "Origin System 101" recap. Might be how the Orbiter was found and then guided towards the Lotus. The War was several months and the Drifter built up a rapport for fighting Narmer
I don't think he has a firm grasp on how the monetization/gameplay works yet. He's also playing through years of content that we got to drip out for over time. Understandable he wants to look good doing all the story stuff. Once he catches up to a normal warframe "routine," I'm sure he'll figure out the trading system. Or he might just want to drop in during updates, grab a prime access, and buy some new cosmetics like a lot of Warframe players.
@@patrickarana4470yeah I get the feeling once he finishes hex it'll probably be the last stream for a while unless something sparks and he starts to look deep into his mods and stuff currently from what I've seen even as a novice both his warframe and weapon mods are not very optimized and the next few main quests uses his actual equipment and the mobs are relatively high level to the point he'll probably struggle alot unless he gets carried
tbf i haven't seen cross having this much fun in a while, but there's a lot to do even after you're all the way caught up, even just the endo farm to max primed/galvanized mods & max ranking arcanes is a grind, cross still has yet to even dip his toes into the crazy amount of freedom they let you have with the builds you can do in this game.. but after all that it's a bit like destiny, a lot of longterm wf players just pop in once a week on reset for eda's/netracell & archon shards.
Chronogically, if that's possible for the Warframe eternalism story, the Duviri story should be placed right after you're stabbed by Ballas and sent back to the login screen, and before you log back into the game and land on Eartha s the drifter. Given how long New War is, they can't possibly add Duviri inside and cut the players from the main game for that long, that's a shame because that's the most comprehensive way to experience tthe story in my opinion.
@vast9467 it still is the events of the new war that allow for the cycle to be broken in Duviri, namely Lotus's hand. One question remain, did the Teshin from Duviri also fall with us and the Lotus hand and end up in Duviri, or was he a Dax on board of the Zariman in the Drifter reality.
28:17 cross did you catch that it was lotus' hand from when it got cut off by ballass in the new war. wake up tenno, space mom's holding your hand.. 2:15:28
I firmly believe that new players should not have instant access to Duviri. In my opinion, it gives you a false first impression of the game + you have zero clue who all these characters (Drifter, Teshin,...) are. It also completely spoils that Warframes are not a person themselves, but are controlled by humans. I don't understand why DE did this.
I think there is one pretty simple reason: They want to fill up the early star chart with some more high quality quests to keep new players hooked. But then again, it has many downsides which some of em you already listed.
@メDarkメI agree they should do that but Duviri should not be one of them. I think it would be cool if they retroactively added a "war within" style quest for the corpus.
Warframe has been that game that's helped me heal more from past abuse and the resulting PTSD. (The other being FFXIV.) Duviri, however, was a major factor in helping me deal with some stuff as I related to the Drifter a lot. My greatest escape from things were stories in all forms: games, books, music, et cetera. I grew up absolutely enslaved to the concept of duty, obligation, and selflessness - when things were at the worst, I had to be at my best for everyone. It was fostered heavily by peers, educators, athority, and even some family. But when I was at my worst no one was around to help me. So stories were a refuge, and when I ran out of books I wrote. It took a lot to help me overcome and heal, and Warframe was one of the last bits that rounded out everything. I'm eternally grateful to DE for the work they've done.
only a few minutes in but please tell me that he will eventually read the word "Duviri" and see that there is in fact no letter a in it but an i instead.
Duviri is really interesting because as the name suggests, it’s a paradox. It takes place before the new war, as that is what the drifter has been in in the time between the zariman incident and the new war, and also after it, the beginning of the quest being the void sucking up the lotus and her hand, teshin and his veil, and the impalement of your operator happening shortly before. This is why it’s available before new war, despite the fact it 100% should be played after, as a way for new players to get frames in the spiral. To add on to the overall lore, the drifter was created from the operator taking the deal with the man in the wall. In this timeline, the drifter is the last survivor aboard the zariman, as they were never rescued in this version, and subconsciously creates duviri as a defense mechanism by using the void. This is why the architecture and many objects resemble those that were aboard the zariman. Eventually though, duviri becomes a prison, with the drifter dying repeatedly to the point they lose their memories and emotions. I believe thrax embodies those emotions, and is basically the drifter as a child, but this part of it i don’t remember that well. I definitely have a slightly incorrect view on it, but this is just what i’ve gathered as a player with over 1000 hours.
You went wrong the second you compared timelines of a paradox. Drifter would’ve been in there both for ages and also no time at all after Teshin and the Lotus Glove (I need a band tee of this)
I literally came back to warframe becouse of duviri (tried plaiyng warframe a bunch of times before, but nevert sticked to it), and to this day still one of my favorite things in warframe. I get ut why they dont, but in my personal opinion they should keep giving duviri more content and updates.
To anyone interested, I've played Soulframe's alpha, and so far combat and story are shaping up to be exactly what Cross is thinking they'd do. Game is quite beautiful, combat is a bit tighter than Duviri (but they're still working on it). The game world is very fantasy, but there is a small element of sci-fi. Every "frame" you use is essentially someone's soul that you saved or helped, so you're like, channeling their spirit. It feels kinda like Skyrim's open world, with better combat.
Cross should watch the video that talks about how de started out, struggled and eventually made it to this point. I cant think of the name of the video off the top of my head though...
My God Cross now I can visibly see how much time u put in a game! Me and you started Warframe about same time- my mastery level is 7 yours is almost 10! 44:49 Has Warframe every never gotten a single games related award, ever? I don't recall. I know DE has gotten advert time slots at The Game Awards, but i dont think any more than that. And Warframe was refused by publishers back when DE was trying to get funding, over 10 years ago. 😆 Look at all those salty publisher dogs, angry they can't have a piece of the Warframe pie!!... WHEN THEY DESERVE NONE!! 😡
You want to know something about diviri realm that will blow youe mind? The reason thi is called a paradox. Sometime in the past. Before zariman's incident. Albert Entrati (father of Euleria Entrati) whos investigate wtf was the void. traveled through the void and ended into this realm. Where it was for a while. Then when finally came back. He told about this realm to his daughter (Euleria) . Who some years later wrotes the Duviri Tales . The book that drifter made his realm of. This book was meant to teach the children how to overcome the long journey through the galaxy and dont lost his emotions. So.. the duviri realm could never exists if the book wasn't writed. But at the same time, the book could nevee exist if albert wasnt visited this place.... A paradox.
There’s a little problem in your theory. The original Duviri would HAVE to exist both before and after the book. If Albert found duviri that means it already existed. Drifter just made a different version of it based off the book and their own emotion. The version we play in exist after the book but the one entrati found exists both before and after.
No, that's not where the Tales of Duviri came from. In the codex fragments you can get from the Labs, there's this: "But as the days melted away, I came to recognize the strange cast of characters Euleria had created, and their purpose. I heard voices I had myself first conjured in the darkness of her childhood chambers, for no other reward than her delight. She had not only preserved this gift I had thought so trivial, she had made it an instrument of healing. More: a stronghold. " Duviri was just bedroom stories, but Euleria later on used them as the framework to write Tales of Duviri as a tool to teach emotional regulation, which in turn helps against void exposure.
But drifter still created a dimension of Duviri though, way after Albrecht's visit. But Duviri does not need to exist within time of ours, same as any conceptual embodiment, exist outside of concept of linear time. Void provides us with better understanding of time due to it's nonlinear functioning in it
@@TheMobott an extract : Euleria Entrati of the Entrati, inspired by the bedroom stories her father Albrecht Entrati told her long ago, created the Tales of Duviri which is a collection of stories that tell of the Kingdom of Duviri. First part: "In Duviri, I woke every day to the voice of my daughter. I recoiled from this at first, feeling the sting of conscience. I could not confront, even in semblance, the woman I had abandoned. Instead, I reinvented myself as a teacher, advising the child-king of the menace beyond his borders." Last part: "Shame is an inert state, but fertile. It primes the mind, bolstering it for repentance. I had thought to make a difference in Duviri. But Duviri had made a difference in me. My own daughter's creations, reverberating and growing in the womb of the Void, had shown me another path than that of the indulgent coward. I was neither hapless nor irredeemable. Like she had, I could fight. I took inspiration from Euleria's example. To the people of Duviri, I bequeathed a legacy of cautionary stories. In them I spoke of fears that an infinity of spirals would not, could not, erase. I slipped away from those lands, silent and unnoticed. From their joys, their sadnesses. From the celebration in my honour. In her, they already had all they needed. My work, I now understood, must proceed from a different point. I would confront the phantom of myself, and deny it to the teeth."
Isn't crazy warframe has so much content and has never complained about size of the game but destiny is always saying games to big its to hard funny as
Cross, brother, please turn off that horrible enemy highlight. It makes the mobs look low poly and cutscenes look weird. And there's a single instance in the game where you actually need it, and it's eidolon fights.. please

Story wise duviri needs to be played after new war otherwise it literally doesn't make any sense at all. I played it a year after it came out and I was confused as hell, I have thousands of hours and still had no clue
Duviri ruins New war and potentially second dream, and is made better if you play everything INCLUDING Angels before it. Admittedly it isn’t a player issue, it the fact that DE refuses to admit that they need to restructure the order of the quests. Having Duviri as a starting point was impressively ambitious but ultimately made no sense at all.
Tbf even if he did Duviri earlier, I don't think he would have used it to farm out frames anyway, he probably still would have just bee-lined to New War.
The advantage of having Tencent take charge of this game is that DE will try to release beautiful skins in rotation all the time. If we cut back to the past, Warframe was a much more sluggish game than it is now. The content took a very long time to update. And this time, with TFD coming in to take market share, DE is even more enthusiastic.
Being real with you, TFD really is not that much of a competitor to Warframe with its player numbers. Also, Tencent isn't directly the reason we're getting consistent updates. That's because of Rebecca's leadership and her vision of doing what's possible in a reasonable time. Tencent is probably the reason we're getting more beautiful skins, but it's probably because they want to milk more money out of Warframe. There's a reason that you basically can't farm any of the new cosmetics (like the drifter/operator outfits) like you could in old expansions. Only purchasable through the market (which to be fair, you can farm the plat for... But they obviously want you to buy it, which is why the game has a ton of supporter packs now). Almost every recent Warframe also cost 300+ platinum where as some used to cost 200+. These monetary increases are the influences that Tencent most likely had the biggest hand in.

Fun fact: Lodun is voiced by the same guy who voiced Immaru in Destiny 2.
Duviri hit really close to home. I Suffered from depression and anxiety for most of my life and the concept and story of the duviri paradox woke me up. These are the stories that I enjoy; Ones that spark a deep meaning within yourself and the world around you after you finish reading it. Something destiny often lacks.
Honestly destiny doesn't have much on Warframe at all. Warframe is just such a special game
Its worth looking into the side stories of duviri. Theres a lot to unpack there. I think socratetris had a really good one on each spiral (sythel in particular is very interesting)
I love how people have such a common reaction when progressing through warframe: "What IS this game?" Love it.
I can't deny I had a lot of moments where I said to myself:"What the hell were these guys smoking when they thought of this?"
Holy crap chat is awful
yeah, chat is really fucking stupid. "do not do duviri" while cross is after new war? what the hell? do they even know whats happening?

And then they preach about how warframe is meant to be “pLAyeD tHE WaY YOU eNJoy IT” 🤡
Agreed. Let the man play.
Destiny gamers for ya
Warframe is indeed, the game with so many other games within. Also man, Duviri is just so cool. And they built that. For anyone to play. For free.

That dating sim also kind of explains Duviri
In the New War right after Drifter and Operator drank 'to freedom' Drifter's hand started glowing and Drifter mentioned that this is is his cue. When you realize that this is actually Lotus' hand, it looks as if Lotus was scolding Drifter for giving the Operator a booze.
If that's real (which makes sense), it's a very cool detail.

Either way it won’t hurt his understanding of continuity for the story so it’s fine.
just ignore chat unless you have a question most of them arent helping you at all and just adding unnecessary stress

Soooooo who is gonna tell him that end game is all about the drip The collection. and powering as many frames as your heart wants
@@chase5436 Nah he will just drop the game.
@@patrickarana4470 This is probably what's gonna happen once he's caught up.
You could call Duviri the Drifter's Ascendant Realm.
That’s actually a really good analogy
Chronogically, if that's possible for the Warframe eternalism story, the Duviri story should be placed right after you're stabbed by Ballas and sent back to the login screen, and before you log back into the game and land on Eartha s the drifter.
Given how long New War is, they can't possibly add Duviri inside and cut the players from the main game for that long, that's a shame because that's the most comprehensive way to experience tthe story in my opinion.
Duviri is like the name states, a paradox. It technically takes place before the new war too.
In my opinion you should be played after the new war because it recontextualizes it and better introduces The drifter character
I think there is one pretty simple reason:
They want to fill up the early star chart with some more high quality quests to keep new players hooked.
(The other being FFXIV.)
Duviri, however, was a major factor in helping me deal with some stuff as I related to the Drifter a lot.

You're going to love Mag. ❤
Drifter would’ve been in there both for ages and also no time at all after Teshin and the Lotus Glove (I need a band tee of this)
I never understood why people dislike duviri, i absolutely love duviri because of it's rogue-like style
I literally came back to warframe becouse of duviri (tried plaiyng warframe a bunch of times before, but nevert sticked to it),

FINALLY! CLEM IS PLEASED!
In the codex fragments you can get from the Labs, there's this:
"But as the days melted away, I came to recognize the strange cast of characters Euleria had created, and their purpose. I heard voices I had myself first conjured in the darkness of her childhood chambers, for no other reward than her delight. She had not only preserved this gift I had thought so trivial, she had made it an instrument of healing. More: a stronghold. "
Duviri was just bedroom stories, but Euleria later on used them as the framework to write Tales of Duviri as a tool to teach emotional regulation, which in turn helps against void exposure.
Wrong.
But drifter still created a dimension of Duviri though, way after Albrecht's visit. But Duviri does not need to exist within time of ours, same as any conceptual embodiment, exist outside of concept of linear time. Void provides us with better understanding of time due to it's nonlinear functioning in it
@@TheMobott an extract :
Euleria Entrati of the Entrati, inspired by the bedroom stories her father Albrecht Entrati told her long ago, created the Tales of Duviri which is a collection of stories that tell of the Kingdom of Duviri.
First part:
"In Duviri, I woke every day to the voice of my daughter. I recoiled from this at first, feeling the sting of conscience. I could not confront, even in semblance, the woman I had abandoned. Instead, I reinvented myself as a teacher, advising the child-king of the menace beyond his borders."
Last part:
"Shame is an inert state, but fertile.
So, Mesa (Not Prime) can whacked that dragon with skill 4, but Mesa Prime with us as drifter can't do shit with skill 4.

I get people wanted him to hold back from Duviri until a certain quest point but given the rewards they were really holding him back. The "chat" running the show is like letting Redditors decide. The amount of triggered story snobs and Redditors in this thread is hilarious. Point proven.
he doesn't have much gear / frames anyways, so he didn't miss anything by not playing it. Soon he'll discover the circuit and start farming frames. This was a pretty solid outcome. And story wise it makes total sense..
I mean reward-wise sure, opening up Duviri is better done soon rather than late. For story coherence (such as it is in Warframe tbf) and actually enjoying the narrative though, which Cross seems intent to do, proper pacing (again, such as it is in Warframe) *does* matter
