@@godzelda123 I think Rell coined the name which solidified it. In the new war, we see that one of the chapters we were studying before the accident was titled “The wall of Lohk (void)”. That title + Ablerict’s encounter with his doppelgänger behind that wall was probably the first iteration of the metaphor.
I think all "The man in the wall" thing is a way we see a 4rd dimensional being trying to be seen as we initially think him is, like "you are unavailable to comprehend the form of this being"

50/50 it wasn't even Alad V. The entire reason amalgams exist and the Ropalolyst haunts his facility is because a sentient mimic showed up as "an old business partner" he thought was dead. "Meat Crews" and not having security codes add to the "iffyness". If Alad shows up again, it definitely wasn't him because he would have been vaporized with the Corpus Pillar. We all know nothing stays dead unless they die in a cutscene or show up different like Corrupted Vor.
Grineer is suprisingly complex faction for genetically modified rotting clone soldiers. Not only each division works more or less autonomously from high command, because each commanding officer has their own flavor of troops, they are very loyal to one another. Idk if it's loyalty gene at play, but Vek Hek calling troops brothers, Tyl Regor's tubemen getting his fatherly love, Kela de Thaym holding combat sport competition for troop morale. Man, i would even go as far as say that Worm likes her leeches in her own fucked up way. And i guess Steel Meridian are still grineer, tho defectors. Despite going against their genetics, i guess that loyalty thing is still there. Which makes Clem and Khal best boys.
I love how everyone was blindsided by Wally at the end of the quest. We all thought that "man in the wall" was some figure of speech but NOPE, its an actual man inside an actual wall.
The New War made me forget how good the writing in Warframe was beforehand. It apparently had to subvert expectations so much that it fell on its face and ended up being the most dissapointing quest of all.
Just for context, Narmer was the pharaoh that unified upper and lower Egypt. That may come up later, but I just thought it would be neat for anyone who didnt know.
I believe that even without that, Tenno wouldn't grow up. Void is a strong thing. Also as far as I know, the Drifter never actually got OUT of the Zariman.
The Drifter is older because they were left out of the deal with Wally, got left in the void and grew up. The Operator is forever a teen because of the deal they made with Wally to leave the void.

Corinth Prime is my favorite weapon in the game and was my weapon of choice going in; seeing it and at first I thought it was the weapon I had equipped going in. Only seeing others' playthroughs did I realize it was giving _everyone_ the Corinth Prime, which I hope they enjoyed as much as I did.
Knowing from lore that "The Zariman was lost making the fold from Saturn" and looking out the classroom window to see rings was a special kind of dreadful excitement.

The Narmer veil is tuned to the Operator, not the drifter, since the drifter doesn't normally belong in this reality. First of all. The "you" with whom you shake hands is The Man in the Wall, the personification of the Void itself. The entity Rell sacrificed everything to keep at bay. The way I understood that scene is as follows. The Man in the Wall offers a deal to save the Zariman children, and you, representing them, take it. This salvation comes in the form of the Tenno gaining void powers. But, as it was explained before, exposure to the Void is incredibly dangerous, and always ends up in either death, or madness. Thanks to Eternalism, we know there are different parallel timelines. In most of these timelines, the Tenno simply didn't survive the deal. They didn't transform into what we know. Our timeline is the only one in which the Tenno took the deal and survived. The Drifter's timeline is the only one in which the Tenno weren't offered a deal at all, leaving their sole survivor, us from that timeline, alone and trapped in the Void. What happened during the quest is basically a collapse of all timelines into a single outcome. "The Tenno have void powers." And since there are two of us, the one who doesn't have void powers got them.
The Man in the Wall has broken abilities. What is shown in that scene, is him collapsing all possibilities (every universe) down to that single handshake, and splitting it off into two single realities: where he saves you, and where he saves all BUT you. And then combines both options for EVERY Tenno into the same two outcomes. It makes sense once you play through Duviri
Same here, but I was with the clone on this one. The cinematic stopped me from completelly obliterating Ballas. So I felt avenged that he was still trying to acomplish that.

I will never forget the first time I played TNW and the first reveal of Fortuna after Narmer takes over with "For Narmer" playing. Genuine chills every single time
Yeah, when I was doing it, I had felt like I just got punched in the gut hard. Seeing all of the people in Fortuna enslaved when they were desperately fighting for freedom from Nef.
Every time I hear that song, it inspires a mournful rage for me. The will of good people fighting the injustice of their oppression washed away and made to nothing in the face of one man's blind and spiteful ambition. It's a good song and makes its point abundantly clear. That's why I hate it so much.
its funny to think about how warframe early on generally played more like the Kahl section of the game, with slower movement, sprint stamina and using cover and chokepoints.
I actually wonder if we may get more Operator and Drifter customizations and touch up to our faces and schools in the upcoming update before 1999. Which I do hope.

I'm surprised everyone said to use Umbra for this quest. I brought him into New War myself, because it seemed like the most appropriate choice, but it ended up angering me, thanks to the cutscenes making him shut down like every other frame instead of using his unique advantage. Also, I'm very sad for Mactics that he never had a random "Hey Kiddo..." in the orbiter before going into New War. Damn.
the best part of the new war, is not the quest. its not the implications of the drifter, and its not the choice to customize lotus... its that, we finally saw Wally. and what a way to make himself present. from the end of the war within, the hint of something darker lurking in the void, to the words of rell about him. that is dismissed by lotus as nothing more than the delusions from the madness, and now, we see him, in his full glory, with that creepy smile, and we understand why rell called him the man in the wall. because, what else could best describe him? as a sidenote, he is missing a finger... and yes, that's the same finger that is present in the railjack...
Well, technically Railjack has copy of this finger, not original. There are many copies, one of larged ones was used to power up Zariman 10-0. Few were also sealed.
@@LeonserGT There is Albrecht Entrati lore on Deimos Necralisk, if you listen to Void Glyphs. It happened when he became first entity who travelled into Void via isolation bell and barely returned. When he returned, he managed to tell his daughter (i don't think we know her name) to close portal. At that moment Man in the Wall already partially through it, so on closure portal severed at least one of his fingers. Later these exact fingers were researched and copied. This also allows us to make an assumption that Man in the Wall appearance is one of distorted Albrecht Entrati.

It’s so well done. It sounds familiar for most of the song, but then as soon as you hit the chorus you realize what it is and it hits so hard when you realize the biggest rebellion in the game has been completely crushed
As a leitmotif appreciator, seeing that melody carried over was the twist of the knife that hurt even more than seeing Fortuna overtaken. Narmer took the embodiment of Solaris hope with that song.

When the drifter is carrying lotus back, I always imagined that if it were meant to be a callback to the second dream, it'd just just the drifter HUFFING AND PUFFING as he carries a living machine pretending to be a human. Or just him dragging her as she scrapes across the ground with the screech of metal on metal as my full-grown drifter struggles to carry half a ton of metal in a tightly-compressed form. Absolutely red-faced, sweating, cursing every step he can, and just knees buckling as he finally lobs her into the seat and immediately collapses.
As far as I can tell, the whole "Eternalism" thing is basically "everything exists all the time all at once" and Eternalism suggests you can choose which path is true for you.
Huh, now the whole thing about DE seeding in these little multi choice questions in their story lines hits on a whole new level for me. I mean, you can go back and replay the quests, and choose a different answer each time, because all possibilities exist... Damn, that's neat.
@@blueKoniro I think you get some different commentary at the very least. Like the choices you make during The War Within? Or like choosing either the Drifter or Operator. The fact you can go back and change those choices and witness each of the outcomes shows that they all exist and have occurred; you’re just choosing which one you want to witness, I guess.
It's so cool how you can play the duviri paradox first before the new war which is what I did and without knowing it when I saw the drifter step out of the ship I was so amazed. I like it when quests can flow smoothly in continuity (mod pun intended) with each other.
Well, they had made Duviri Paradox as second starting option for new players. But then people began to be confused on story more than they should, so they locked Duviri as starting chain option to... Now it is at Saturn->Uranus junction. Meaning you can get to this quest in approximately same timespan as other main story quests. Which allows for player to have reduced time between quests and slightly more immersive story experience.
@@alyero6341 Imagine if they allowed to do Duviri paradox after first Lotus and Ballas scene, but before Drifter was presented. It would've kinda ruined Drifter being something new to story, though. But then New War + Duviri would've probably took, like 8+ hours to play in total?
To be fair, after two relatively challenging boss fights against the archons, being able to bring your best against the third and roll right over it without much effort is pretty much the definition of "We're so back"
That was amazing! You picked up on lore bits so well and also had good builds/movement! (One of the reasons story bosses are usually not too hard, so that everyone can experience the story.) For me, seeing and hearing the Wall + the void aesthetic of the Zariman is peak Warframe for me.
I liked the New War, but it was definitely polarizing for a lot of people. There was a lot of lead up and people were expecting much bigger gameplay changes. What they got was a very cinematic experience with some experimental gameplay sections/additions (that as usual weren't really carried over). Pretty normal for DE, but a lot of players were expecting something different, an evolution. It was the biggest update they had done (also done during covid, which might explain 37:27), but it was still very Warframe. It's aged far better now, but the expectations on it at launch were brutal. It's a unique quest, and we haven't had a story event like it since. It really tried to put you at the front of the story and experience it while it's happening. The current story is back to kind of being in the background, but seems to be building towards something similar. I'm excited to see how it turns out under Reb this time.
Yeah, rewatching the quest made it my absolute favorite. As a war, it wasn't nearly as long as the old war, but as a quest, the New War is probably the best one in the whole game so far...
A lot of people were expecting the Tau system, but I personally was a bit disappointed Narmer didn't affect much after the quest. I would've liked to feel their influence across the star chart, kind of like an invasions 2.0. instead, we just got reskinned bounties which made me pretty sad. I don't think DE will ever add to this as they've moved in from The New War, but I hope someday we'll get proper Narmer content.
The build up lead me to expectations of basically splitting the game to "before" and "after", where "after" is basically Mass Effect 3 - on-going all-out war with sentients, representing reapers basically, and that it won't be a short quest, but the _state of the world_ for months to come, which isn't even unrealistic given how many resources they spent - they could as well choose to do that instead. But DE feels like didn't commit enough and tried to do the 'safe' approach of reverting everything back to normal with extra narmer missions... 🙄
@@LeonserGT well i mean the lore idea is that warframes and tenno are super ultra op, but narmer was moreso like a casual episode of dragon ball: someone more op than everyone else established shows up, mops the floor with everyone, then gets outscaled by the main character and onto the next villain. Literally, Ballas was unstoppable, got defeated, then we immediately destroy everything else because he was the only actual threat outside of Erra (who died)
well to be honest my opinions on the new war it is great but never really feels as Grand finale to a 6-year-old long storyline (Natah, the second dream, Rising tide, the war Within, chains of Harrow, the Apothecary prologue, sacrifice, Prelude to war and of course the new war itself)
I think I’ll tear up because I know I’ll have to play a poorly designed stealth mission that I’m forced to get through if I want to experience the rest of the game
Lotus is human like while Erra is 'like a tree' because Natah is the origin of sentient mimics, and is able to shift her form from the more sentient appearance.

So annoying when gameplay and lore has sky and land difference. That thing got one-shot by an explosive while even Necramechs can't one-shot it. Same goes for Mesa in duviri paradox trailer to just finish off orowyrm with regulators instantly, when in gameplay mesa's regulators can't even target the orowyrm...

Was there for the playthrough. Chat tried desperately to get his attention and let him know that while the name you gave Lotus was permanent, the skin wasn’t. You can tell how successful we were 😂
@YISP7 LOL if you head over to the pedestal in your personal quarters aboard the orbiter and interact with the Lotus’ helmet (Similar to how you would in The Sacrifice and such), you’ll come to a customization screen for the Lotus where you can not only change her skin, but recolour it like you would a Warframe or weapon.
@YISP7 Also I might add because I know this is for the booba, the original Lotus skin is the same as Margulis only with no helmet, don't waste your plat for it if that's your reason for getting it
binging the entirety of new war late at night and having the sun rise as i finally beat it hit me DIFFERENT and made me enjoy the game even more, good job getting through the quest!
there are two types of Warframe players: One take a long time to think about which voice should lead the others by thinking about Natah's character and what she'd want and what her new identity would represent. The other player picks Margulis for booba.
Prefer Natah, we're already void-warped tenno piloting bio-mech combat bodies, mind as well let her be honest about her form and join the weird parade, more fun that way IMO XD
I just played this mission for the first time a week or two ago, and the absolute brass balls on DE for them to make the man in the wall literally a man IN a wall...
The most memorable part of the new war quest was the fortuna entrance. I bet that a vast majority of us believed that we were going to fortuna to regroup with some remaining allies and build a new army. But seeing fortuna in red, while they sung about worshipping narmer. It hit hard. It was the defining "oh shit we lost" moment
The only reason the infestation didn't fall for ballas is because ballas KNOWS what the infestation does. Imagine an infested setient, that would be a sentient but stronger, faster, deadlier and willing to sacrifice itself to spread the infestation to other sentients. That would eventually destroy the control that ballas had over the system.
I remember back when The New War released that for the first time in the whole game we felt that we lost. That feeling of helplessness while seeing everything you know crumble before you without being able to do anything was the feeling many of us players got. We even had a game-wide event called Scarlet Spear in which you had ground and space (railjack/archwings) teams collaborating to push back or delay the inevitable invasion. So far this has been one of my coolest memories of this game. Also big shoutout to the sound team which I have grown more and more fond of over the years. I was so happy to see your reactions from start to finish about this quest
its tragic because the only good gear you really are going to want for this quest is just a serviceable railjack/ necramech in terms of what you are bringing a frame/ gun for it is easier then the sacrifice and lower level
The gun you get at 11:00 is the Corrinth Prime - a gun that was available when The New War came out. With Rhino being a frame able to be obtained early on, this frame could be "a recently awoken Tenno"
Being completely honest, Margulis is the "least worst" choice available, both Natah and Lotus would keep her trapped in the torture she went through throughout the past. Margulis is not a choice for Ballas "victory", but rather as a new chance for "Margulis" to save the universe with the Tenno, it is important to remember that "Lotus" also openly said that she would like to accomplish her "dream" of completing what "Margulis" couldn't. A lot of people hate whoever chose "Margulis" just because of her looks, but they end up forgetting the story and all the talk involved with Lotus/Natah.
Personally saw it a bit differently, I'd rather let her be Natah, take her original form rather than remain trapped as one of her long overused masks. But that's the neat part of the choice, there is no set good or bad outcome, it's all up to how we understand it, and what we see as right
I dunno. Making her be Margulis feels like a violation. Margulis was her own person, and Natah was never Margulis. It's forcing the identity Ballas wanted on her, one she never wanted or identified as. I think the choice is either Natah or Lotus - let her be herself as she originally was, before Ballas ever met her, or let her be the self she created in the absence of Ballas' influence, on her own, and let her be with her children.
@@sweatygoblin2335 Like i said, you can think the way you want, the story have wholes that differs from person to person, there really isn't a wrong choice, but like in this mission, "LOTUS" is tired and finally "FREE", she just don't know what to do, so, if you think the best solution is to move on and forget the past, "NATAH/LOTUS" was a slave and tortured for so long, really fucked her mind, so "MARGULIS" is a good choice, because of the legacy that remains (legacy that Lotus want to follow) and the story later against "The Man in The Wall" and "1999" .
Seems mactics missed some parts about what happened on the zariman and the man in the wall stuff from previous quests. Hence a lot of his confusion. Also seems he never got to experience the 'hey kiddo' in your ship even once! That creeped me out so much, which i love. The first time it happened though, i never saw my clone. I just heard the 'hey kiddo' whispering down my ears after chains of harrow. Which in itself was creeping. It was the second time he visited that I saw my clone in the ship. So i got spooked twice. It's a shame he doesn't visit me anymore :( aha
Nata is looking different from Erra, because she's a mimic like those from Lua, so she kinda stayed looking like Margulis from being disguised as her for too long
Honestly, this was one of the more fun playthroughs I've seen of this quest. Not sure how long did it actually take, but it seemed like you were *on* it. Like that Fortuna stealth segment and all that. And I'm glad you enjoyed it. DE really cooked with this one. It was a long time coming but it was worth it. Honestly, that first segment of playing as Kahl, Bemo, and Teshin was already worth it. But then it offered a lot more. Losing the war almost immediately was a curve ball for me. Either way, this quest is pretty epic. And towards the end there, when The Man in The Wall arrived... all of a sudden, Narmer feels like child's play. Because that entity there is much more intimidating. Now imagine what Rell from The Chains of Harrow quest has been dealing with for all these years. Rell has been holding this entity back for who knows how long. We freed Rell of this burden. What we freed something else into our world as well. Anyway... Congrats on finishing The New War!
2:22:29 i also picked Margulis, while the Natah and the lotus were really awesome characters, Margulis was the first to give love to the Tenno. It was her Pure Heart that started the course of the Zariman Children out from the Void and its properties. Also, The Man in The Wall!!!
it's a very good choice considering that "Lotus" would like to follow Margulis' path and finish what she couldn't achieve in life alongside the Tenno, you can look at this decision as her leaving all the past and torture like Lotus/Natah and starting a new goal.

Man got the 3 Egyptian gods The Lotus/Natah doesn’t look like a tree like Erra because she’s a mimic type sentient. She’s kind of like an elite version of the mimics you encounter in the Umbra quest. Her whole thing is that she mimicked Margulis and I guess her mimicry was so good(and some Orokin intervention) that she took up her mantle as the mother of the Tennos
The New War is such a massive quest that you definitely need some time to digest everything that just happened. I know I sure did. Amazing quest though. It has its issues, but to me it is a fantastic conclusion to a narrative that has been 9 years in the making.
part of me feels like going through the story as an old player since founding was lost on me. but watching content creators go through it now has been immensely enjoyable.
Lotus explains what she is in the Ratolyst mission but if you just want the explanation, spoilers!: She was a sentient Mimic, sent to spy on the Orokin. She was captured and Ballas basically brainwashed her to be a copy (mimic) of Margulis in order to control the Tenno in the war against the Sentients. This worked a little too well, because she came to genuinely care for the Tenno and see them as her kids, therefore didn't want them being used by the Orokin. This leads to her leading the Tenno to rebell against the Orokin after they won the war against the Sentients and then putting them on the Second Dream.
Wasn't she sent not just to spy but to orchestrate the Orokin massacre? As well as extinguishing the Tenno afterwards but failing to do so. All of that is just Hunhow's plan

50/50 it wasn't even Alad V. The entire reason amalgams exist and the Ropalolyst haunts his facility is because a sentient mimic showed up as "an old business partner" he thought was dead. "Meat Crews" and not having security codes add to the "iffyness". If Alad shows up again, it definitely wasn't him because he would have been vaporized with the Corpus Pillar. We all know nothing stays dead unless they die in a cutscene or show up different like Corrupted Vor.
Grineer is suprisingly complex faction for genetically modified rotting clone soldiers. Not only each division works more or less autonomously from high command, because each commanding officer has their own flavor of troops, they are very loyal to one another. Idk if it's loyalty gene at play, but Vek Hek calling troops brothers, Tyl Regor's tubemen getting his fatherly love, Kela de Thaym holding combat sport competition for troop morale. Man, i would even go as far as say that Worm likes her leeches in her own fucked up way.
And i guess Steel Meridian are still grineer, tho defectors. Despite going against their genetics, i guess that loyalty thing is still there. Which makes Clem and Khal best boys.
I love how everyone was blindsided by Wally at the end of the quest. We all thought that "man in the wall" was some figure of speech but NOPE, its an actual man inside an actual wall.

The New War made me forget how good the writing in Warframe was beforehand. It apparently had to subvert expectations so much that it fell on its face and ended up being the most dissapointing quest of all.
Just for context, Narmer was the pharaoh that unified upper and lower Egypt. That may come up later, but I just thought it would be neat for anyone who didnt know.

one of the best thing of the quest is how hard khal struggles with corinth prime, while a warframe just has no problem at all with the recoil
Corinth Prime is my favorite weapon in the game and was my weapon of choice going in; seeing it and at first I thought it was the weapon I had equipped going in. Only seeing others' playthroughs did I realize it was giving _everyone_ the Corinth Prime, which I hope they enjoyed as much as I did.
Knowing from lore that "The Zariman was lost making the fold from Saturn" and looking out the classroom window to see rings was a special kind of dreadful excitement.

The Narmer veil is tuned to the Operator, not the drifter, since the drifter doesn't normally belong in this reality. So the veil does nothing more than give the drifter a headache because they never personally met the Lotus so the gaslighting doesn't do anything to them.

First of all. The "you" with whom you shake hands is The Man in the Wall, the personification of the Void itself. The entity Rell sacrificed everything to keep at bay.
The way I understood that scene is as follows. The Man in the Wall offers a deal to save the Zariman children, and you, representing them, take it. This salvation comes in the form of the Tenno gaining void powers. But, as it was explained before, exposure to the Void is incredibly dangerous, and always ends up in either death, or madness. Thanks to Eternalism, we know there are different parallel timelines. In most of these timelines, the Tenno simply didn't survive the deal. They didn't transform into what we know. Our timeline is the only one in which the Tenno took the deal and survived. The Drifter's timeline is the only one in which the Tenno weren't offered a deal at all, leaving their sole survivor, us from that timeline, alone and trapped in the Void.
What happened during the quest is basically a collapse of all timelines into a single outcome. "The Tenno have void powers." And since there are two of us, the one who doesn't have void powers got them.
Wally isn't the void itself, but rather something that resides within the void.

The Man in the Wall has broken abilities. What is shown in that scene, is him collapsing all possibilities (every universe) down to that single handshake, and splitting it off into two single realities: where he saves you, and where he saves all BUT you. And then combines both options for EVERY Tenno into the same two outcomes.

its funny to think about how warframe early on generally played more like the Kahl section of the game, with slower movement, sprint stamina and using cover and chokepoints.
I like to use umbra in railjack because you can pilot or use the gun as operator or drifter and umbra will fight the enemy if they get on your ship
Pro-tip....Try protea for infinite rail jack abilities or Lavos to make the railjack abilities not cost energy but have a cool down instead
Another tip: Wisp's haste reservoir affects the fire rate of railjack turrets!

I'm surprised everyone said to use Umbra for this quest. I brought him into New War myself, because it seemed like the most appropriate choice, but it ended up angering me, thanks to the cutscenes making him shut down like every other frame instead of using his unique advantage.

the best part of the new war, is not the quest. its not the implications of the drifter, and its not the choice to customize lotus... its that, we finally saw Wally. and what a way to make himself present.
from the end of the war within, the hint of something darker lurking in the void, to the words of rell about him. that is dismissed by lotus as nothing more than the delusions from the madness, and now, we see him, in his full glory, with that creepy smile, and we understand why rell called him the man in the wall. because, what else could best describe him?
as a sidenote, he is missing a finger... and yes, that's the same finger that is present in the railjack...

It happened when he became first entity who travelled into Void via isolation bell and barely returned. When he returned, he managed to tell his daughter (i don't think we know her name) to close portal. At that moment Man in the Wall already partially through it, so on closure portal severed at least one of his fingers.
Later these exact fingers were researched and copied.
This also allows us to make an assumption that Man in the Wall appearance is one of distorted Albrecht Entrati.

As a leitmotif appreciator, seeing that melody carried over was the twist of the knife that hurt even more than seeing Fortuna overtaken. Narmer took the embodiment of Solaris hope with that song.

When the drifter is carrying lotus back, I always imagined that if it were meant to be a callback to the second dream, it'd just just the drifter HUFFING AND PUFFING as he carries a living machine pretending to be a human. Or just him dragging her as she scrapes across the ground with the screech of metal on metal as my full-grown drifter struggles to carry half a ton of metal in a tightly-compressed form. Absolutely red-faced, sweating, cursing every step he can, and just knees buckling as he finally lobs her into the seat and immediately collapses.
As far as I can tell, the whole "Eternalism" thing is basically "everything exists all the time all at once" and Eternalism suggests you can choose which path is true for you.

It's so cool how you can play the duviri paradox first before the new war which is what I did and without knowing it when I saw the drifter step out of the ship I was so amazed. I like it when quests can flow smoothly in continuity (mod pun intended) with each other.
Well, they had made Duviri Paradox as second starting option for new players.
But then people began to be confused on story more than they should, so they locked Duviri as starting chain option to... Now it is at Saturn->Uranus junction.
Meaning you can get to this quest in approximately same timespan as other main story quests.
Which allows for player to have reduced time between quests and slightly more immersive story experience.

To be fair, after two relatively challenging boss fights against the archons, being able to bring your best against the third and roll right over it without much effort is pretty much the definition of "We're so back"
That was amazing! You picked up on lore bits so well and also had good builds/movement! (One of the reasons story bosses are usually not too hard, so that everyone can experience the story.)
For me, seeing and hearing the Wall + the void aesthetic of the Zariman is peak Warframe for me.
1:46:35 DE puts a meta reaction for the Operator that mirrors what we all felt the first time we played this quest lmao.
4 minutes into the quest and he loves Kahl like the rest of us.
I liked the New War, but it was definitely polarizing for a lot of people. There was a lot of lead up and people were expecting much bigger gameplay changes. What they got was a very cinematic experience with some experimental gameplay sections/additions (that as usual weren't really carried over). Pretty normal for DE, but a lot of players were expecting something different, an evolution. It was the biggest update they had done (also done during covid, which might explain 37:27), but it was still very Warframe. It's aged far better now, but the expectations on it at launch were brutal.
It's a unique quest, and we haven't had a story event like it since. It really tried to put you at the front of the story and experience it while it's happening. The current story is back to kind of being in the background, but seems to be building towards something similar. I'm excited to see how it turns out under Reb this time.
Yeah, rewatching the quest made it my absolute favorite. As a war, it wasn't nearly as long as the old war, but as a quest, the New War is probably the best one in the whole game so far...
A lot of people were expecting the Tau system, but I personally was a bit disappointed Narmer didn't affect much after the quest. I would've liked to feel their influence across the star chart, kind of like an invasions 2.0. instead, we just got reskinned bounties which made me pretty sad.
I don't think DE will ever add to this as they've moved in from The New War, but I hope someday we'll get proper Narmer content.
The build up lead me to expectations of basically splitting the game to "before" and "after", where "after" is basically Mass Effect 3 - on-going all-out war with sentients, representing reapers basically, and that it won't be a short quest, but the _state of the world_ for months to come, which isn't even unrealistic given how many resources they spent - they could as well choose to do that instead. But DE feels like didn't commit enough and tried to do the 'safe' approach of reverting everything back to normal with extra narmer missions... 🙄
@@LeonserGT well i mean the lore idea is that warframes and tenno are super ultra op, but narmer was moreso like a casual episode of dragon ball: someone more op than everyone else established shows up, mops the floor with everyone, then gets outscaled by the main character and onto the next villain.
Literally, Ballas was unstoppable, got defeated, then we immediately destroy everything else because he was the only actual threat outside of Erra (who died)
well to be honest my opinions on the new war it is great but never really feels as Grand finale to a 6-year-old long storyline (Natah, the second dream, Rising tide, the war Within, chains of Harrow, the Apothecary prologue, sacrifice, Prelude to war and of course the new war itself)
who else just tears up when someone you’re watching gets to fortuna,and starts hearing the song and remembering how we failed 😞

if you go to the lotus helmet after the quest, in your quarters, you can customise Lotus/Natah/Margulis
Lotus is human like while Erra is 'like a tree' because Natah is the origin of sentient mimics, and is able to shift her form from the more sentient appearance.
Note, the Operator posing with their hands on their temples is never NOT the perfect reaction pic to what's happening, and its always ALWAYS fitting...

@YISP7 LOL if you head over to the pedestal in your personal quarters aboard the orbiter and interact with the Lotus’ helmet (Similar to how you would in The Sacrifice and such), you’ll come to a customization screen for the Lotus where you can not only change her skin, but recolour it like you would a Warframe or weapon.

With Margulis representing compassion and Natah representing strength, the Lotus represents both in equal measure. That's why I chose Lotus.
The man in the wall has got to be one of the creepiest things in the game, by far.
The most memorable part of the new war quest was the fortuna entrance.
I bet that a vast majority of us believed that we were going to fortuna to regroup with some remaining allies and build a new army. But seeing fortuna in red, while they sung about worshipping narmer. It hit hard. It was the defining "oh shit we lost" moment

The only reason the infestation didn't fall for ballas is because ballas KNOWS what the infestation does. Imagine an infested setient, that would be a sentient but stronger, faster, deadlier and willing to sacrifice itself to spread the infestation to other sentients. That would eventually destroy the control that ballas had over the system.

I remember back when The New War released that for the first time in the whole game we felt that we lost. That feeling of helplessness while seeing everything you know crumble before you without being able to do anything was the feeling many of us players got. We even had a game-wide event called Scarlet Spear in which you had ground and space (railjack/archwings) teams collaborating to push back or delay the inevitable invasion. So far this has been one of my coolest memories of this game. Also big shoutout to the sound team which I have grown more and more fond of over the years. I was so happy to see your reactions from start to finish about this quest
its tragic because the only good gear you really are going to want for this quest is just a serviceable railjack/ necramech

The gun you get at 11:00 is the Corrinth Prime - a gun that was available when The New War came out. With Rhino being a frame able to be obtained early on, this frame could be "a recently awoken Tenno"
Considering Corinth Prime is MR14, probably not so much.
Being completely honest, Margulis is the "least worst" choice available, both Natah and Lotus would keep her trapped in the torture she went through throughout the past.
Margulis is not a choice for Ballas "victory", but rather as a new chance for "Margulis" to save the universe with the Tenno, it is important to remember that "Lotus" also openly said that she would like to accomplish her "dream" of completing what "Margulis" couldn't.
A lot of people hate whoever chose "Margulis" just because of her looks, but they end up forgetting the story and all the talk involved with Lotus/Natah.
Personally saw it a bit differently, I'd rather let her be Natah, take her original form rather than remain trapped as one of her long overused masks.
But that's the neat part of the choice, there is no set good or bad outcome, it's all up to how we understand it, and what we see as right
I dunno. Making her be Margulis feels like a violation. Margulis was her own person, and Natah was never Margulis. It's forcing the identity Ballas wanted on her, one she never wanted or identified as. I think the choice is either Natah or Lotus - let her be herself as she originally was, before Ballas ever met her, or let her be the self she created in the absence of Ballas' influence, on her own, and let her be with her children.
@@sweatygoblin2335 Like i said, you can think the way you want, the story have wholes that differs from person to person, there really isn't a wrong choice, but like in this mission, "LOTUS" is tired and finally "FREE", she just don't know what to do, so, if you think the best solution is to move on and forget the past, "NATAH/LOTUS" was a slave and tortured for so long, really fucked her mind, so "MARGULIS" is a good choice, because of the legacy that remains (legacy that Lotus want to follow) and the story later against "The Man in The Wall" and "1999" .
Seems mactics missed some parts about what happened on the zariman and the man in the wall stuff from previous quests. Hence a lot of his confusion.
Also seems he never got to experience the 'hey kiddo' in your ship even once! That creeped me out so much, which i love. The first time it happened though, i never saw my clone. I just heard the 'hey kiddo' whispering down my ears after chains of harrow. Which in itself was creeping. It was the second time he visited that I saw my clone in the ship. So i got spooked twice.
It's a shame he doesn't visit me anymore :( aha

Honestly, this was one of the more fun playthroughs I've seen of this quest. Not sure how long did it actually take, but it seemed like you were *on* it. Like that Fortuna stealth segment and all that. And I'm glad you enjoyed it. DE really cooked with this one. It was a long time coming but it was worth it. Honestly, that first segment of playing as Kahl, Bemo, and Teshin was already worth it. But then it offered a lot more. Losing the war almost immediately was a curve ball for me.
Either way, this quest is pretty epic. And towards the end there, when The Man in The Wall arrived... all of a sudden, Narmer feels like child's play. Because that entity there is much more intimidating. Now imagine what Rell from The Chains of Harrow quest has been dealing with for all these years. Rell has been holding this entity back for who knows how long. We freed Rell of this burden. What we freed something else into our world as well.
Anyway... Congrats on finishing The New War!

2:22:29 i also picked Margulis, while the Natah and the lotus were really awesome characters, Margulis was the first to give love to the Tenno. It was her Pure Heart that started the course of the Zariman Children out from the Void and its properties.

it's a very good choice considering that "Lotus" would like to follow Margulis' path and finish what she couldn't achieve in life alongside the Tenno, you can look at this decision as her leaving all the past and torture like Lotus/Natah and starting a new goal.

The Lotus/Natah doesn’t look like a tree like Erra because she’s a mimic type sentient. She’s kind of like an elite version of the mimics you encounter in the Umbra quest. Her whole thing is that she mimicked Margulis and I guess her mimicry was so good(and some Orokin intervention) that she took up her mantle as the mother of the Tennos
The New War is such a massive quest that you definitely need some time to digest everything that just happened. I know I sure did. Amazing quest though. It has its issues, but to me it is a fantastic conclusion to a narrative that has been 9 years in the making.
When Teshin squishes the sentient brains in his finisher, it's actually a reference to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance which makes it even cooler

Lotus explains what she is in the Ratolyst mission but if you just want the explanation, spoilers!:
She was a sentient Mimic, sent to spy on the Orokin. She was captured and Ballas basically brainwashed her to be a copy (mimic) of Margulis in order to control the Tenno in the war against the Sentients. This worked a little too well, because she came to genuinely care for the Tenno and see them as her kids, therefore didn't want them being used by the Orokin. This leads to her leading the Tenno to rebell against the Orokin after they won the war against the Sentients and then putting them on the Second Dream.
Wasn't she sent not just to spy but to orchestrate the Orokin massacre? As well as extinguishing the Tenno afterwards but failing to do so. All of that is just Hunhow's plan
