I’m thinking about starting to train MMA. I tried it today, and it was a lot of fun (it was 80% wrestling today but I learned a couple of small things about boxing, protecting yourself from punches and how to wrestle down a opponent). Thank you for this video, helped out!
it's great to remember the basics, specially after a long time trainnig for self defense only I've even forgot guard stance basics... (raising gard and getting in stance have actually got people killed at times, so I'm used to skipping that part). Nice info, thanks for the tips.
As a pendekar, regarding self defense : 1) Your hands should move and stay above your waist (not necessarily in an ostensive guard) at the very moment you identify someone moving toward you or talking to you. Hands don't go down until the risk of agression has dropped to zero. 2) You are supposed to "fall into stance" first move you do in a fight - you do not "take stance" before the fight. Stance is for balance and at no point in your life do you want to be on the ground facing multiple agressors. 3) Eyes (gouge), throat (punch), genitals (smash), nose (upward strike), shin (kick), toes (stomp). These are the highest stopping power, best strength to impact ratios. None of these require technic nor a specific stance. Your grandma can pick them in ten minutes and use them the day after.

Hey Shane, quick question about the sprawl you demonstrated: I was a wrestler for a couple years in high school, and the way we were taught the sprawl was very similar, except for the feet. We were taught to put the tops of our feed on the mat, that way if they keep pushing, you slide, and they can't get the leverage to complete the take down. Is there a reason you're landing on the balls of your feet instead? I'm guessing it has to do with the differences between MMA and wrestling, but I wanted to be sure.
Practice the beginner's moves everyday, 100 times a move. Even if/when you become elite, these moves will serve you far best in most situations than anything fancy. Like musicians practice their scales, never forget your jab/hook/cross/teep/shinkick. Thank you posting these videos in such clear definition as well, Shane, you're a great man.
Regarding overall fitness for MMA. What should beginners be able to do, what should intermediates be able to do, and what should advanced be able to do? I went to a boxing gym a few years ago, August 2019 to be precise. And they said that they are going to give BJJ classes. Anyway the class went as follows - We started of by doing walking lunges ( 7 strides per leg, 14 strides altogether) then the opposite way back again, the same amount. We would then stand in one spot and jog and then go to the matts to do some stretching, hamstrings, cobra pose, fetal, etc. Then the session started with fitness. Typical fitness drills. For instance punching a shield then super setting sprawls, flutter kicks and combination of punches. For instance punch the shield for a combination of 1 left, 2 right, 3 left and 4 hard right hand, then after a combination of at least 10 such combinations punches, sprawl! Sometimes sprawls for 1 minute and then superset flutter kicks for 1 minute non stop. Was very exhausting. Anyway the last 15 minutes was spent practicing moves. Arm drag, single leg take down. We were told that if we can't breather that we can't fight. To me it was extremely exhausting. I weighed 290lb back then. Now my question is except for the BJJ moves that were very few, how should a beginner start his fitness journey for MMA? What would a typical beginner regime vs an intermediate vs an advanced look like? I weigh 275lb currently and I am 5ft 11. How can I start?
Thanks for teaching me this my grandma never stood a chance

TYSM! I always fight boys when there is a time in school that we can play whatever we want, I feel like I’ve broken a leg because of the boys! Ty for the tips and tricks!
This guy is amazing his course is effective af
Practice the beginner's moves everyday, 100 times a move. Even if/when you become elite, these moves will serve you far best in most situations than anything fancy. Like musicians practice their scales, never forget your jab/hook/cross/teep/shinkick.
Thank you posting these videos in such clear definition as well, Shane, you're a great man.
I'm going to start training my kids and these videos are really helpful. Thanks man! 🥋
Can you make videos how to do MMA at home.
