- This video explains why I decided to buy an Electric Mountain bike.
At age 64 my 7 main reasons are probably pretty similar to most, but some may surprise you.
It features the type of riding I do on a daily basis, and why you too should consider an Electric Bike.
I also go over the bike I own and explain some of its features.

Ebikes has opened up this world for me. I wouldn't be able to ride the distances I do without the assist due to back injuries. I usually eco so I get a great workout. I get the occasional sneer but most conversations are out of curiosity.
That's awesome.
I got a heavily discounted Cube Stereo in October last year. NH winter coming. We always go to Glentress in May. I will do 3 times as much biking with my emtb. I will still take my acoustic to let my friends try it
Good stuff. 👍
I'm still not even close to being on the fence as to making a decision to pick up e-biking (is that even a thing?) but what I do like about this Merida of yours is that it's one of the few e-bikes that don't _look_ like an e-bike! What I'm saying is that the one thing that's been putting me off e-bikes is that their manufacturers seem to be going out of their way to differentiate them from the normal, pedal-powered bicycle - so much so that they're trying their hardest to make them look like motorcycles instead of actual bikes. And then there are all the fenders and racks bundled onto the things, some of which are even welded to the frames and can't be removed.
Yeah, once the battery is hidden inside the frame, they look a lot more normal.
Perfectly said. I just got mine a week ago and am loving it. Enjoy.
Cheers for the comment. 👍
@@jethrowingnut13 no probs. I had a crash three or four years ago and stuffed my shoulder. Dam tree jumped out in front of me. lol. So after three years finally got the courage to get back onto a MTB. My son had an e-mtb so I gave it a go. It's great, to able ride again with stuffed knees from 30 years of soccer etc. without knee pain. The thing is, without an emtb, i would be doing what you said, watching youtube videos. Great video, keep it up.
@@marcolucchini8173 Thanks Marco, I'm glad your back out riding again. Yeah at 64, I look at certain things on the trail, and weigh up the recovery time versus the couple of seconds of "wow I did it" , and err on the side of caution, so I can keep riding. It's great to get some positive feedback a lot of work goes into these videos, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
@@jethrowingnut13 I'm not 64 yet, I'm 56 working on keeping healthy when I get to 64. Keep riding.
Great rundown on what you can do with a trail Ebike thanks.
You're welcome. Back when I was a kid we only had rigid bikes, and we rode those thing everywhere.
Yeah me too😄
gotta love the e160 grouse thing for sure but im getting mine derestricted as soon as possible
I thought about it but didn't want to tinker during warranty.
Fantastic! Are you in Victoria? Great trails and beautiful scenery! Keep living !
Thankyou for the great comment. Na I'm in NSW, but a lot of the footage is from the Ballarat area, as both of my Sons became Mexicans. ( can I say that these days 😯) So we visit the Grandkids etc quite often. Cheers.👍
By far it’s better to buy as you have because I have mine set up as a kit . Rear drive but because of brace and bolts holding the rear wheel in place the time taken to fix a flat is considerably longer. I will also go purpose built bike.👌
Hi Shane thanks for the comment. Yeah no dramas with flats on mine. In the first half hour of use, a stick snapped the valve stem clean off. Lucky I always carry spares and a pump. Well have to go for a ride one day. Cheers 👍
nice mate
Cheers Tom.
I found the drivetrain on my Merida e160 was rubbish if used on shared paths. My 10 & 11T were gone in 100 km. The 34T front sprocket is too small and cant be upgraded. My new Cube is 36T and has not missed a beat so far (6 months).
Ok. Thanks for the heads up. I dont do a lot of on road, / shared path, but Ill keep that in mind, hopefully it will last.
Main thing is: Get out there and ride, motor or not.
100% 👍
I do not own an ebike simply because I do not like to overcome every little challenge with ease :) That said, I'm quite far from being 64 and I do not have any serious conditions.
So, if you're having fun with your ebike, then happy cycling and don't bother listening naysayers. Just please remember that it is still a bicycle not a motorcycle and you're amongst cyclists and not on a highway with motorists 👍
Definitely . Yeah they can be dangerous on the road, car drivers are not expecting bikes to be approaching in certain circumstances. I definitely take that into consideration. Safest way to ride on the road is to assume you're invisible.
E-bike isn't bike , it's a moped.
I suppose it is.
Both of your vehicles are motorcycles.
Triggered much?
one has 72 hp. though.
