A few years back I met a fellow biker while out for a spin,he happened to mention that he was celebrating his 73rd birthday that very day,I said "I suppose you have been a biker most of your life".He told me he had never sat on a bike until he was 68,his first bike was his retirement present to himself. He told me since then he has ridden his bike from Ireland all over Europe to the Black Sea,through the Alps and as far as Morocco..Just shows your never too late to start....I,m 66 and bought my first bike when I was 16..

Life does begin at 60! I turned 60 this past January and retired from my position as a public safety officer in the Great State of Ohio. I'm now wanting to do as much moto-camping as I can and have most of the necessary gear and the motorcycle for the job. But, my body isn't what it was, especially after working a job where being injured was common place. So after 40 years and 7 broken bones including a broken back, arthritis has set in and I now pull a cargo trailer to haul my essentials. This keeps the bike itself light and easy to handle. It works! and I'm able to haul a tent-cot that allows me to sleep off the ground and which makes getting up in the morning a whole lot easier. I only wish I had someone to ride with, but going solo is better than not going at all. Awesome and encouraging vid, thanks for posting! (new subscriber)

Great video! I'm 60 and did my first moto camping trip - solo - with an MT07 last summer. 7 days and 3500Km of pure bliss. I've learnt that sleeping in a camping hammock is hard on my back. That I need to pack more protein variety, and that a small chair would have been a worthy addition to my gear. Came back home very sore and tired but looking forward to my next trip. No regrets!

Great video! I just turned 66 and after spending a good part of my middle age years riding large touring bikes I also got a red & white T7 last year and returned to my off road roots. I exercise; yoga and core strength stuff along with cardio and find it really helps me feel better riding in a more demanding physical environment. You mentioned water weight, I mounted a Rotopax inside my left pannier mount so I can have water in remote camping sites. This keeps it low and I haven’t noticed the extra weight. Ride safe…

Greetings from a 63-old German and his Tiger 800 (not quite as old).
The video & comments perfectly reflect what I have been doing & feeling since I started riding again after the (usual) family hiatus. Now, with the time and more secured finances available than when a student, the riding becomes more and more of a passion, much improved - at least in my case - by the increased equanimity and more relaxed attitude, that seems to come with age.
Nothing to proof, no records to break. Just pure enjoyment of being out there at your own pace & leisure. Laughing about the mistakes that invariably happen and the tricks the aging body may play on you... like getting in and out of a tent becoming a challenge...
Can´t wait for the great Europe trip this summer ... Safe riding to all of you "oldies"!

Yes, the trip should be great. 6 weeks, 9 countries, approx. 6.000 km. All the way from the gravelroads & serene lakes of southern Sweden to the sparkling mediterranean coast of Croatia, where I will spend 2 weeks with my family (who get there by plane.). Then by ferry from Split/Croatia to Ancona/ Italy, through the rolling hills of Tuscany onwards to picturesque Cinque Terre. From there back home via some fairytale villages of Germany, visiting friends on the way. Not so much dirt but stunning scenery anyway, with lots of alpine passes in between. Can´t wait!

Nice little story, good to see the older generation getting out and about. 👍👍
As a 61 year old who has been riding for over 40 years I still enjoy packing up the bike and getting out in the country, I also own a T7 but my god it is heavy, thankfully I also own a DR650 and much prefer it, there are times when lighter weight is better than more power, but each to his own.
Thankfully there are many great roads in Australia to get lost on, and lots of tracks to test yourself on, just don’t drop the T7 in the wrong place.
Enjoy many future rides as long as you can, life don’t last forever.

I wouldn't go any heavier than that unless I had a full time riding buddy.
In 2022 I'm riding the 250 XC on the TAT in USA.
According to the Honda manual, I can ride from the east coast to the west coast and back, and won't need to change the oil until I get home.

I bought a G310GS for my 60th birthday. I'm semiretired and I want to replace the hiking, mountain biking and kayaking of my youth with motorcycle camping. My goal is to keep the same ultralight camping and add only a generous tool roll when I take my ultralight camping show on the road. I fit everything into a 66 liter duffel. I hope to post more videos of my moto-adventures but so far I only posted one solo overnight trip from last summer.

Well done. Great video. Never too old for Adv Camping Trips. You’re taken the right approach to setting up your camping kit, I’ve been on a few trips & found I’m constantly upgrading gear for camping. The biggest problem with motorcycle camping is storage capacity, hence most of your gear needs to be compact & lite. Working out that perfect kit will vary from person to person, I like to travel with minimal gear. Anyway looks like you had a great trip, beautiful area, spectacular scenery plus nice motorcycle. 👍🇦🇺🏍

Cool trip! Like you I discovered moto camping in 2021. I am in the UK and the dirt roads you enjoy in Australia are pretty much non existent over here, and those that exist are pretty few and far between, so my trips were all tarmac on my Suzuki VStrom 650. I did an overnight try out down to Lands End, the most Southerly point of mainland UK, and then, after a few changes to my sleeping system I did a seven day, 2000 mile trip up to and around Scotland visiting John O'Groats and then the real most Northerly point at Dunnet Head. I had an absolutely fantastic trip, enjoyed every minute and have more trips planned for 2022. Also like you, I am in my 60's, I was 63 in February. A tip on food. Over here all supermarkets have packs of precooked rice which are sealed and don't need to be kept cold, they can be heated on a camping stove with just a little water added to the pot. A tin of tuna, or some hotdog sausages sliced up and added to the heating rice make for a tasty, filling meal. All the ingredients can be carried in your panniers without the need to be kept cool. I hope you have some excellent trips in 2022.
