This song was written by Arthur Lee and first performed by the group Love which he and Bryan MacLean founded, one of the greatest groups ever. This is a great cover which Plant did for the benefit to help pay Arthur's medical treatments for the Leukemia that killed him in 2006 at age 61. RIP Arthur Lee and Bryan MacLean.

I lived in LA during the 60's and saw Love several times. One performance they opened for the Doors. Legends. What an era.

Love definitely never opened for the Doors. It would have been the Doors opening as Love were the biggest band in LA after the Byrds.
Morrison was in total awe of Arthur Lee.
Jac Holzman, the owner of Elektra records, knew that Love were the bigger and more talented of the two bands.
Love could have been one of the biggest bands ever - if only Arthur could have been arsed.

@@garethjenkins6273 Love had everything going for them, heck even their name fit with the times like no other band. Don't know what happened to make them lose that chance to stardom. It was the fate of many promising bands from that era.

The story goes that most people in LA around the scene were intimidated by Love, particularly Arthur and Johnny Echols. They used to say that the band should be called Hate.
Love were definitely not a hippy band. Listen to the dark lyrics on all three of their first albums. 'Sitting on a hillside, watching all the people die...' or 'The snot has caked against my pants, it has turned into crystal... I think I'll get my pistol.

I don't care if you feel this doesn't touch the original (what could), but it's so cool that Plant supported Love's timeless music and tried to spread the word as only a vocalist can. RIP Arthur Lee and Bryan MacLean!

Robert Plant showed up at the Beacon theater. It was a benefit for Arthur when he was in the hospital.Plant as 100% into it. Try to find the bootleg album. The photo of Plant and Ian Hunter on the cover. Was taken by me. The whole evening was amazing!

Robert Plant's slant on a great tune from Love. If you have not yet checked out the Love album, FOREVER CHANGES, do so without delay ! One of the many GREAT albums we were fortunate enough to enjoy during one of the most prolific times in music !

This was from the Priory of Brion tour where they would play in small bars , clubs etc in the UK in front of 200 people on a good night. There would be no mention of Plant in any advertising/posters etc , youd just turn up to see a band and theres Robert Plant with his old mate Kevyn Gammond from the Band of Joy.

Percy really LOVED Arthur Lee (Fact). So why didn't he Force Arthur to have the treatment to save his life...This is TRUE; We all have family bereavements, which are individually indescribable, but I have NEVER sobbed so much as when Arthur died, xxx

When did an adult “force” another adult do something ever work? Arthur Lee was for better or worse, his own man. He was an amazing talent.

Nobody beats the original.... he should've mix his voice with a more clear and clean guitar...to keep the atmosphere and the magic of the tune without repeating the original.
