Back when I was working at Kroger, we rarely had issues with the power. One thunderstorm in particular was absolutely chaotic and most power was shut down throughout the city. We had a backup generator so the very dim store lights would come on, but it was still pitch black in the back ('conveniently', I worked in the meat department and there was knives and sawblades everywhere, but that's besides the point.) I was a little unnerved, but what got me the most was at that exact moment, there was an amber alert (not spoken, just the beeps), and slowly, a few customers' phones would also go off one by one, including my own. The beeping and ambience was just horrendous. I was absolutely unnerved.
Sounds like a movie. That's how scary it is

The reason being for the sounds are for the following, 1. To get your adrenaline pumping and get you alerted for certain emergencies 2. The tones you hear are I believe the weather station and or government building that put out the alert is actually using the tones as a message for the radio station software to decode and use as a message to know what type of alert to put out.

From what I looked up, the infant was unharmed was he was found. The mother was recovering at the time, we are to assume she is fine and alive. And the father was arrested.

Child Abductions are referred to AMBER Alerts because the child who was started this trend was Amber Hagerman. She was abducted in Texas in 1996 and 4 days later she was found dead

When there was a shooter on the loose near my house i got a amber alert and nearly shit my self when i heard where it was happening
My husband drives for a living, so he stays super vigilant. So far, he hasn't had to report anything, but let's be grateful that a lot of people who work on the road (truckers, etc) have made the calls to rescue these kids.

Maybe youre watching them to be prepared, if theres an actual Storm or child abduction in your area, Im from Ireland too and even though abductions and Storms are rare we all need to be prepared.

This is crazy that this happens (to an Aussie at least). It's a great system though. I think we need to put something as big as this in place. The story of Amber and how her mother championed the change broke my heart.

One time it was early in the morning and i was asleep. My moms phone made this HORRIFYING noise that almost made me fall off the bed and it was the first time I learned about an amber alert. I sometimes see stickers of missing children’s files on toy dispensers at stores.

I was 9 and at my cousins funeral and an amber alert went off. As you could imagine I was hysterical to begin with, but the thought of someone else losing a loved one just like I did made me even more upset. These amber alerts still freak me out to this day because of that moment. It’s like a reminder that we are losing kids everyday.

So my alarm is connected to my phone. I got an ''Amber Alert'' so it connected to my house alarm. It was 12 o clock at night, and the Amber Alert siren went out on my whole house. Scary.

The scariest thing ever happened to me recently because of an amber alert. I just got home from school and off the bus when i sat down and turned the tv on. I was watching tv when i heard a knock at the door and went and saw ot was a family friend who had a son a grade younger than me. She said she didn't see him come off the bus that he goes on (the same as me) and asked if i knew where he was. I told her no, sorry and she thanked me and left. I went back to the tv and literally a minute later an amber alert went on. I thought it was him and was freaked out. It wasn't him, and he was found, bug it still gave me a mini heart attack.

I did live in TN (moved to AL) but not near Memphis in fact I was confused at one point the day this happened because I heard a EAS sound I thought it was a severe thunderstorm warning but it was a AMBER alert and it was this one I was scared I then looked and it said Memphis so I was relived but still felt uneasy because it said he was armed.
I live in Memphis. Remember this exact alert, the day after. News covered it and my parents turned the radio off, but it didn't matter. Memphis is a scary place downtown. Crazy shit happens. I love my part tho

It's a NOAA Weather Radio. Think of an FM radio, but it recieves a different frequency and uses special tones that tell it to activate.
These special tones are kind of like dial-up. They sound like noise to the human ear, but they actually carry special information that tell the radio what, where, and when. After hearing these tones, the radio will play a loud tone for 8 seconds, and say what the emergency is on the screen, in this case a Child Abduction Emergency.
